MVA’s Kasba Pattern: After by-poll boost, Uddhav, Ajit Pawar, Patole to hold rallies for PMC and PCMC polls

The Maha Vikas Aaghadi (MVA) recently received a boost when Congress snatched the Kasba Peth Assembly seat in Pune city from the BJP in a bypoll. The BJP had been winning the prestigious Assembly seat since 1995.

Now, after the boost, the MVA has decided to take the “Kasba Pattern” ahead for upcoming civic polls in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.  Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, NCP leader Ajit Pawar, state Congress chief Nana Patole and senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat will address the rally in Pune on May 14.

A number of big cities, including Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur, are due for civic elections this year before the state heads for Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in 2024.

Two meets conducted by MVA to decide the strategy

Yesterday, leaders of the MVA, a three-party Opposition alliance, met in Mumbai for the second consecutive day to discuss preparations for the joint rallies they have planned across the state to target the Eknath Shinde-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

Former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ajit Pawar, his counterpart in the Legislative Council Ambadas Danve and senior Congress as well as Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders attended the meeting.

Talking to reporters, state NCP chief Jayant Patil said the leaders will meet again next week to finalise the details.

The first rally is likely to be held in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, formerly known as Aurangabad, on April 2, he said.

On Wednesday, Thackeray, who heads the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), and other MVA leaders attended a meeting of the MVA, wherein it was decided that all the constituents will come together to hold rallies in different parts of the state to take on the Eknath Shinde-BJP government.

The Shinde government came to power in June 2022 after the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA dispensation following a rebellion with the Shiv Sena.

During the meeting on Wednesday, it was decided that the MVA will hold revenue division-wise rallies where leaders of all three Opposition outfits will participate.

Mumbai, June 24, 2026: Senior Samajwadi Party leader and MLA from Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar, Abu Asim Azmi, raised the issue of private schools running in slums (slum areas) in the House during the monsoon session of the Maharashtra Assembly. He has demanded that the FIR registered against the principal, secretaries and chairman of these schools be withdrawn immediately and these schools should be saved from closure. Addressing the House, Abu Asim Azmi said, “My constituency Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar is a very poor and backward area. Around 30 to 35 thousand children are studying in private schools here. The capacity of BMC schools in this area has been completely exhausted and there is a long waiting list of children for new admissions. In such a situation, these private schools are the only support for the education of poor children.

Key demands and points:
Relaxation of conditions and regularization

The conditions of the government for approving schools such as open space, playground, etc. are practically impossible to meet in slum areas. Therefore, the government should make special laws for these areas and regularize them. FIRs registered against the management of these schools in Shivaji Nagar and Deonar police stations The R should be withdrawn immediately. He said that the result of these schools is more than 90 percent and their educational standard is better than BMC schools. Here, teachers are teaching children for a meager salary of just Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 7,000. He added that there has been a delay in the formation of the committee. In the last meeting, the government had also assured to form an inquiry committee on this issue, but no committee has been formed so far. Abu Asim Azmi warned that if these schools are closed due to administrative action, the future of 30 to 35 thousand poor children will be completely dark. He has strongly appealed to the government to intervene in this matter immediately.
