Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Assures Stranded Tourists In Nepal Of Safe Return Soon

Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday spoke to the Maharashtra tourists stranded in Nepal and assured them of all possible assistance to ensure their safe return.

According to officials, nearly 150 tourists from Maharashtra have been left stranded in Nepal due to ongoing violent protests led by Gen Z.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also assured the tourists stuck in Nepal that the state government is monitoring the situation and arrangements will be made to bring them back soon.

“I take the issue regarding the tourists stuck in Nepal seriously. I want to tell them to wait for a while till the situation becomes normal. We are monitoring the situation closely and will bring all of you back soon,” Banerjee said.

Apart from this, the Ahmedabad District Administration issued a helpline number for its citizens stuck in Nepal.

In a statement, Ahmedabad District Administration advised the citizens to contact the helpline number 079-27560511 for assistance. “If any citizens of Ahmedabad district are currently on a trip to Nepal, the district administration has requested their relatives to immediately inform the helpline number,” the press release from the Resident Additional Collector stated.

Notably, the death toll in the September 8 protest led by Gen-Z in Nepal has risen to 30, the Ministry of Health and Population announced on Wednesday evening.

Issuing a release, the Health Ministry stated that 1,033 injuries have been recorded nationwide, out of which 713 injured individuals have already been discharged, while 55 were referred to other facilities for further treatment.

Another 253 patients remain newly admitted. The Civil Service Hospital in Kathmandu is currently handling the largest caseload, treating 436 people. The National Trauma Centre is caring for 161 patients, and Everest Hospital is treating 109.

In all, 28 hospitals across the country are providing care to those affected, the ministry added. The protest under the banner of Gen-Z Nepal saw a spree of shooting by security forces as they tried to break into the parliament. Police indiscriminately fired upon protesters with live rounds, followed by tear gas.

On Tuesday, KP Oli resigned from his PM’s post as the protests turned violent in Nepal with demonstrators torching the Parliament Building, President’s office and several other government buildings.

The protests began on September 8 after the Nepal government imposed a ban on social media apps. However, the ban was just a triggering point to a widespread movemen that demanded an end to alleged institutionalised corruption and favouritism in governance.

Mumbai: Mumbai’s transport infrastructure is set for major upgrade as the final leg of Mumbai Metro 3 is set to be inaugurated by PM Modi on October 8. Ahead of the grand inauguration in next week, Mumbai Metro 3 shared inside pictures on Grant Road Metro station. The images revealed the station’s modern design and readiness to serve commuters, offering a glimpse into the transformation awaiting South Mumbai’s transport network.

“Grant Road Metro Station – Your gateway to South Mumbai’s vibrant hubs! From schools, hospitals & markets to iconic Grant Road East & West, this station brings seamless metro connectivity to one of the busiest neighbourhoods of the city. Travel smarter, faster & greener with #MumbaiMetro3,” Mumbai Metro 3 posted on social media, along with the photographs.

The inauguration of the final stretch between Worli and Cuffe Parade will make the entire 33.5-km Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ Aqua Line operational. This will be Mumbai’s first fully underground metro corridor, promising faster and greener travel while significantly reducing road congestion.

The Aqua Line has been launched in phases. The first segment, between Aarey-JVLR and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), was inaugurated in October 2024, directly linking the western suburbs with the city’s financial hub. The second section, from BKC to Worli’s Acharya Atre Chowk, opened in May 2025. Both stretches have already seen robust ridership, indicating high demand for seamless east–west and north–south connectivity.

Once the Worli–Cuffe Parade section opens, the corridor will connect commuters to six business districts, 30 major office hubs, 12 educational institutes, 11 hospitals, 10 transport nodes, and 25 cultural and religious landmarks. Importantly, it will integrate with suburban rail at Churchgate and CSMT, easing pressure on the overburdened Western and Central lines.

Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri

New Delhi, Oct 2: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Congress leaders and parliamentarians Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra paid tributes to two of India’s most revered figures, invoking their ideals as guiding lights in today’s turbulent times.

Rahul Gandhi, in a message shared on the social media platform X, honoured Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy, describing him as the moral compass who stitched India together through the threads of truth, non-violence, and harmony.

“The ideals of Bapu, who united India through the principles of truth, non-violence, and harmony, will continue to inspire us to follow the path of peace, brotherhood, truth, and humanity in the face of hatred,” he wrote.

His tribute resonated with the spirit of Gandhi’s teachings, reminding citizens that the path of ahimsa and satyagraha remains as relevant today as it was during the freedom struggle.

His sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, echoing the sentiment of remembrance, paid homage to Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose leadership and simplicity left an indelible mark on the nation.

In her tribute posted on X, she wrote, “Respectful tributes to former Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri, on his birth anniversary, who gave the country a new direction with the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. His simplicity, humility, and unwavering resolve to defend the rights of his countrymen will always guide us.”

Her words reflected admiration for Shastri’s quiet strength and his ability to inspire through action rather than rhetoric.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said: ” Hearty Greetings to all the countrymen on Gandhi Jayanti.

In a post on the social media paltform X, he said: “The ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, the great architect of the Indian freedom movement and Father of the Nation, who showed the path of peace to the entire world through supreme values ​​like truth, non-violence and Satyagraha, will always be a source of inspiration for us. Today, when his principles are being challenged, we are facing them by following Bapu’s teachings and guidance.”

Across the country, political leaders, civil society groups, and citizens marked the day with prayer meetings, cleanliness drives, and cultural programs.

Statues of Gandhi and Shastri were adorned with garlands, and their teachings echoed in schools and public spaces.

PM Modi pays tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary

New Delhi, Oct 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi, revered as the ‘Father of the Nation’, and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary, reaffirming that India will continue to walk in their footsteps to realise the vision of an ‘Atmanirbhar’ and ‘Viksit Bharat’.

He also arrived at the Raj Ghat to offer floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.

Gandhi Jayanti commemorates Gandhi’s lifelong commitment to truth, non-violence, and social justice. It not only honours his philosophy of peace and ethical living but also serves as the International Day of Non-Violence, observed worldwide to spread his message.

Sharing his tribute on X, PM Modi wrote, “Gandhi Jayanti is about paying homage to the extraordinary life of beloved Bapu, whose ideals transformed the course of human history. He demonstrated how courage and simplicity could become instruments of great change. He believed in the power of service and compassion as essential means of empowering people.”

“We will keep following his path in our quest to build a Viksit Bharat,” the Prime Minister said.

Remembering Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, PM Modi described him as an “extraordinary statesman”.

Born on October 2, 1904, in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh, Shastri rose to become India’s second Prime Minister in 1964 following the demise of Jawaharlal Nehru.

He is immortalised for his historic slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’, a tribute to the contributions of soldiers and farmers that continues to inspire generations.

Known for his humility, honesty, and deep bond with ordinary citizens, Shastri’s leadership left an enduring impact on India’s political and social fabric.

Paying his respects on X, PM Modi wrote, “Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji was an extraordinary statesman whose integrity, humility and determination strengthened India, including during challenging times. He personified exemplary leadership, strength and decisive action.”

“His clarion call of ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ ignited a spirit of patriotism among our people. He continues to motivate us in the endeavour of building a strong and self-reliant India,” he added.
