The peace of the country may be threatened by the screening of the film, says Gulzar Azmi.
Mumbai 4/ May
The Jamiat Ulema Hind had earlier approached the Supreme Court for an immediate ban on the release of a film called “Kerala Story” which was made to destroy religious harmony, but the hearing was not heard by the Supreme Court and it was advised that the request be made. Please approach the Kerala High Court, as advised by the Supreme Court, a petition has been filed today in the Kerala High Court on behalf of Jamiat Ulema Hind which is Civil Writ Petition No. 15303/2023 filed by Senior Advocate PK Ibrahim.
Today, the Registrar of Kerala High Court was requested to hear the petition as soon as possible, it is hoped that the hearing on the petition will take place tomorrow at 10:30 PM. This information was given by Jamiat Ulema Legal Aid Committee chief Gulzar Azmi here in Mumbai today.
According to Gulzar Azmi, in the petition filed by Jamiat Ulema Hind, the court has been requested to issue an order to the central government to stop the release of the controversial film Kerala Story, which was released on May 5, and the Central Board of Film Certification. The court has also been requested to order the producer of the film to issue a disclaimer regarding the film as well as YouTube. And the trailer of the film being shown on the social media platform should also be removed.
Gulzar Azmi further said that we first tried in the Supreme Court to ban the film, then we approached the Kerala High Court following the instructions of the Supreme Court. We are trying to ban the film in any way. Then at least a disclaimer should be issued that the film has nothing to do with reality and the film is based on fictitious stories. Gulzar Azmi said that an attempt is being made to defame Muslims and provoke them through the film Kerala Story, against which we have approached the court. The release of the film may threaten the peace and order of the country. And communal tensions may rise. The film falsely claims that thousands of Hindu and Christian girls from Kerala converted to Islam after being wooed and seduced by Muslim boys and then joined ISIS, while the Indian government has not confirmed any such incident. Despite this, the main body of the exhibition of the film has shown the green flag.
Gulzar Azmi, head of Jamiat Ulema Legal Aid Committee, has become the plaintiff in the petition filed on the direction of Jamiat Ulema Hind President Maulana Syed Arshad Madani.
It should be noted that in the film called Kerala Story, it is shown that about 32000 women converted to Islam first and then joined ISIS. The story of their alleged torture after joining ISIS has been described by Kerala Chief Minister Pinna Rai Vijayan as false propaganda of the Sangh Parivar and appealed to the people to boycott it. The Chief Minister further said that the state A movie like Kerala Story has been made to defame.

SC ‘shocked’ by decade-long delay in criminal trials in Maharashtra

New Delhi, Oct 9: The Supreme Court has expressed shock at the status of criminal trials in Maharashtra, having found that hundreds of cases have been pending for framing of charges for over a decade — some dating back as far as 2006.
“Registrar General of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay has filed an affidavit annexing certain documents which we have perused. To say the least, it is a reflection of a very shocking state of affairs, insofar as the conduct of trials before different Courts in the State of Maharashtra is concerned,” observed a Bench of Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, taking note of the affidavit filed by the Registrar General of the Bombay High Court.
The Justice Kant Bench said that despite the filing of charge sheets, trials in at least 649 cases across Maharashtra have not proceeded beyond the stage of framing charges.
“The said affidavit reveals that there are at least 649 cases in which charges are yet to be framed, despite filing of the charge sheets, in certain cases, way back in the year 2006, 2013, 2014 and onwards till the year 2020. The reasons assigned for delay are multiple, including, and most significantly, in almost every trial, either non-production of the accused or non-appearance of the advocate, be it the prosecutor or the defence,” it observed.
Noting that the petitioner has been languishing in jail for over four years without charges being framed, though the charge sheet in his case was filed in July 2021, the apex court said: “The petitioner has been in jail for more than 4 years since 11.04.2021, and today his status remains the same as it was on day one of his incarceration. Charges would have to be framed, the process of trial would take its own time, and by the time a final conclusion is reached, he would have remained behind bars for many years on end.”
The Supreme Court has directed the Registrar General of the High Court to obtain detailed reports from each District and Sessions Judge regarding the steps taken to ensure the timely framing of charges and compliance with earlier circulars on the production of undertrial prisoners either physically or virtually, as per the stage of trial.
The matter will now be heard next on October 17, with the Supreme Court seeking a comprehensive compliance affidavit. “The Registrar General shall also apprise the learned Chief Justice of the High Court of the passing of this order,” it said.

India-UK partnership trustworthy; crucial foundation for global stability, says PM Modi

Mumbai, Oct 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday stated that the dynamism of India and the expertise of the UK together create a distinctive synergy. “Our partnership is trustworthy, driven by talent and technology, which will help make the future of both countries brighter,” PM Modi said after meeting his UK counterpart Keir Starmer at Raj Bhavan here.
He said, “India and the UK are natural partners. The foundation of our relationship is a shared belief in values such as democracy, freedom, and the rule of law. In the current era of global instability, this growing partnership between India and the UK is becoming a crucial foundation for global stability and economic progress.”
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Starmer, there has been remarkable progress in the relations between India and the UK. During my UK visit in July, we reached an agreement on the historic Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. Your visit to India just a few months after the Agreement and the largest business delegation to accompany you so far is a symbol of the new energy and broader vision that has come into the India-UK partnership,” said PM Modi.
“We shared views on peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific and West Asia, as well as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. On the Ukraine conflict and the Gaza issue, India supports all efforts to restore peace through dialogue and diplomacy. We are fully committed to enhancing maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region,” said PM Modi.
“We have reached an agreement on cooperation in military training. Under this, Flying Instructors of the Indian Air Force will work as trainers in the UK’s Royal Air Force,” said PM Modi.
Prime Minister Modi said, “The largest and most influential delegation from the education sector so far has come with Prime Minister Starmer. It is a matter of great joy that now nine universities from the UK are going to open campuses in India. The Gurugram campus of Southampton University was recently inaugurated, and the first group of students has also taken admission.”

The Ministry of External Affairs shared photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“Together for stronger India-UK ties…,” posted Randhir Jaiswal, the MEA spokesperson, on X.
Earlier, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said his meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer here further deepened trade and economic partnership for mutual prosperity between the two nations.
Starmer arrived in India for a two-day visit on Wednesday, accompanied by the biggest-ever trade delegation from the country to India.
“Delighted to call on UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Discussed avenues to further deepen India-UK trade and economic partnership for mutual prosperity,” Goyal posted on X social media platform.
Goyal earlier met Peter Kyle, the UK’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, with a view to moving forward with the operationalisation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and doubling the bilateral trade by 2030.
“The meeting marked a significant step towards operationalising the India-UK CETA, with both Ministers agreeing to reposition the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) to oversee its implementation and delivery,” according to the Commerce Ministry statement.
Both sides underlined their commitment to ensuring swift, coordinated, and results-oriented implementation of the Agreement, aimed at realising its full potential for businesses and consumers in both countries. The ministers reaffirmed their shared ambition to double bilateral trade by 2030, leveraging the complementarities between the two economies in areas such as advanced manufacturing, digital trade, clean energy, and services.
Emphasising the transformative scope of CETA, they discussed ways to maximise its benefits through regulatory cooperation, addressing non-tariff barriers, and promoting supply chain integration. The highly productive Commerce Secretary and Director General-level meeting set the tone for the Ministerial meeting, which laid a strong foundation for a full day of engaging and forward-looking discussions.
