Suspected human sacrifice case: K’taka police book 7 persons

The Karnataka police have booked seven persons in connection with the death of a class 10 student in a case of suspected human sacrifice. The police took a few of the accused persons into custody on Wednesday and are questioning them.
R. Chetan, Mysuru Superintendent of Police (SP), said on Wednesday that the suspects are being questioned regarding the suspicious death of a youth identified as Mahesh. His body was found on January 2 near Halepura lake in Nanjangud taluk.
His father Siddaraju had lodged a complaint and suspected it to be a case of human sacrifice, he added.
Based on the complaint, a few suspects were taken into custody and questioned. The police have found traces of black magic rituals near the lake, the Mysuru SP said.
The police have got information about the deceased youth going near the lake with his friends, he added.
It is alleged that Mahesh’s friends pushed him into the lake and killed him after performing black magic rituals. The investigation has been initiated based on evidence collected so far and the statements given by the locals, he said.
Mahesh a.k.a Manu’s father had lodged a complaint with Kavalande police against three classmates of his son and four others.
The father has alleged that the accused — Hemmaragala Srinivas, Raju, Naveen and Muddu — practised black magic and allegedly took his son to the lake and killed him on a full moon night.

Mumbai: Fugitive accused Arunachalam in New India Bank embezzlement case surrenders

Mumbai: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested Arunachalam Nathan Muruthovar (age 62), a wanted accused in the New India Cooperative Bank (NICB) embezzlement case. Arunachalam, who was absconding for the last one month, surrendered at the Economic Offences Wing office in Mumbai this morning.
It is alleged that Arunachalam Muruthovar had received around Rs 30 crore from the misappropriated funds of NICB from the main accused Hitesh Mehta. The EOW had deployed several teams in various parts of India while Arunachalam was absconding.
After the surrender, Arunachalam Muruthovar was arrested and produced in the court. The court sent him to police custody till March 18 for further investigation.
Further investigation in the case is underway. So far 6 accused have been arrested. The EOW has also claimed progress in the investigation in this case.

Communal tension on Holi in Ratnagiri Rajapur: Situation peaceful

Mumbai: The situation is peaceful after the communal tension on Shimga Holi in Ratnagiri Rajapur, Maharashtra. All of them are residents of Rajapur Ratnagiri.
On the night of March 12, miscreants forcibly entered the Jama Masjid while the Shimga Holi procession was being taken out through that route. The mob is also accused of forcibly damaging the gate. The police have registered a case in this matter. Also, to worsen the situation, people of a particular community also raised slogans of Jai Shri Ram, Har Har Mahadev and violated the prohibitory orders, after which the police have registered a case.

School Van Driver Arrested For Raping 15-Year-Old Girl In Navi Mumbai

Thane: A school van driver has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Navi Mumbai, police said on Saturday.
Based on a complaint, the police on Thursday registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for the assault that occurred in Panvel on March 3, an official said.
About The Case
According to the police, the girl was on her way to college when the accused, who lived in her neighbourhood, lured her into his school van.
The official said the accused allegedly drove the girl to a secluded spot in Chinchwali Shivara, where he raped her.
He said the victim informed her parents about the assault on Thursday, following which the police nabbed the accused.
The man has been sent to police custody until March 18, the official added.
