Hema Malini recalls bond with her late mom and her memories of Rajesh Khanna

Bollywood’s ‘Dreamgirl’ Hema Malini remembered her late mother Jaya Chakravarthy while she recalled working with late superstar Rajesh Khanna.

Hema appeared as a special guest for ‘Mother’s Day’ special episode on ‘Hunarbaaz- Desh Ki Shaan’.

The veteran actress spoke to IANS and recalled working with late superstar Rajesh Khanna and her initial relationship with him.

Hema Malini referred to her late mother and said: “Though she has gone and is no longer with me physically but still I can feel she is there around me. Many times if I am doing some work, I feel like she is waiting for me and I have to go, then suddenly I realise that she is no more. But still she is with me all the time. And the same connection I have with my daughters.”

“And I am happy to see that my daughters are giving the same affection care to their kids like I had given to them. They know the true meaning of being a mother and motherhood.”

The actress further gets nostalgic about her journey in Bollywood and also regretted that she couldn’t explore much as a classical dancer in movies.

As she said: “Unfortunately when I came in movies that era was not the same as the time of Vyjayanthimala and Padmini, so I couldn’t get many chances to do classical dance in movies.”

During the show she did a small performance on the song, ‘Gori Tori Paijaniya’ from the movie ‘Mehbooba’ starring herself and Rajesh Khanna.

“You know the best part of coming to these reality shows is that you can recall those moments from the past. I did a small performance but it was really great. I still remember that initially me and Rajesh Khanna never liked each other. But later we did the film ‘Prem Nagar’ together and from there we developed a good friendship that continued forever. In fact his wife Dimple and children used to visit the sets during shooting.”

Hema Malini seemed quite excited to be on the talent-based reality show and looking at the performances of the participants.

“I feel honoured because the channel felt that I am the right person to come on ‘Mother’s Day’ special episode. So, they invited me and I accepted to be on the show. I enjoyed watching the performances of these contestants who came from very very low backgrounds. After so much struggle they manage to reach here and that is the most special thing about them,” said Hema.

Hema further said that it was an enjoyable moment for her to be on the show and she was so impressed after listening to the flute performance by Anirban Roy that she gifted him a flute as a token of appreciation.

“He is an excellent flute player and he played the flute so beautifully like a very mature artiste. I was so overwhelmed that I gave him a flute symbolically as it felt like he is Gopal. In fact I gave a special performance and asked him to play the character of Gopal and I played Yashoda,” added the actress while recalling her performance on the popular song ‘Sundara Gopalam’.

The actress who had given numerous hit movies and remained a superstar of Bollywood for so long said that it was difficult for her to judge who is best among them. She reminisces about her conversation with judges Mithun Chakraborty, Karan Johar and Parineeti Chopra.

“I was discussing with the judges that all these contestants are just incredible and it is so difficult to eliminate either of them,” she shared.

Hema added how she was speechless and stunned while witnessing Tipu Pehalwan’s acts and his variety of difficult stunts.

“He was just a normal looking man but had an extraordinary power that really left me in awe. He lifted the entire bicycle in his mouth and a jeep moved over him. And most amazing was that nothing has affected him. Even when the ice slab was broken over him. He has learnt that art and that was really astonishing,” she concluded.

Singham Again Movie Review: Ajay Devgn, Rohit Shetty’s ‘High-Voltage’ Ramayana Is Explosively Entertaining!

Singham Again Movie Review: Ajay Devgn, Rohit Shetty's 'High-Voltage' Ramayana Is Explosively Entertaining!

Title: Singham Again

Director: Rohit Shetty

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Jackie Shroff, Akshay Kumar and Shweta Tiwari.

Where: In cinemas

Rating: 3 stars

Positioned and postured as a full-blown action entertainer to be enjoyed with your family, Rohit Shetty brings Ajay Devgn’s Bajirao Singham back to narrate the modern day Ramayana, replete with a bunch of B-town stars to do justice to the epic saga that shows the ultimate victory of good over evil. So, right from Sita-haran (Sita’s abduction) to Jatayu’s sacrifice to Lanka-dahan, every chapter must unfold with cinematic liberty and melodrama that must serve justice to every key situation of the epic battle.

And truth be stated, we get the events, and we even cheer for every sequence and subtext that the film mounts to showcase the Ram Vs Ravan battle. Right from the unconditional love of Laxman and Bharat to the ultimate loyalty of Hanuman to Sita’s cruel abduction– every character has a context placement and contemplation to ruminate over. But hang on a sec! Who is Deepika placed as in this tale? She is neither Shabri, Shurpanakha or Mandodri. Her character seems as misfit and misplaced as her poor acting and her wobbly (read: horribly put on and off-putting) accent!

While the rest of the star cast plays to the gallery amidst the ear-splitting background score, Deepika sticks out like a sore thumb as the lady Singham.

At 2 hours and 24 minutes, Shetty unleashes the mega star-power of his film, and how! From Simmba (Ranveer Singh) to Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar), everybody jumps in to offer their bit to ensure that the audience remains engaged and entertained. Equally engaging and pleasant are the backdrops against which the makers have set the pieces of the narrative. Every locale is either scenic, handsomely mounted or ‘explosive’ with the trademark sign of Shetty pasted all over.

The story is simple and straight to state the obvious. Bajirao Singham nabs a notorious terrorist (Jackie Shroff) and his arrest triggers another baddie (Arjun Kapoor) to abduct Singham’ wife (Kareena Kapoor Khan). So, what’s the connection between these two events, you may wonder! You will have to watch the film to find out the link, as Shetty gives you a backstory that sets the current tale rolling.

What’s remarkable is how the makers have designed the entry of each character, and how the sequences have been spaced out to do justice to every character that makes their presence felt. Nobody disappears or gets diluted in terms of the presence and storytelling in the name of cinematic liberty. Add to it Ranveer Singh’s over the top hysteria, Akshay Kumar’s reassuring screen-presence and Tiger Shroff’s crisp, but impactful action chops, and you would know how Shetty elevates the film as a sheer entertainer worthy of all the whistles and cheers.

The sequence where Ranveer sets Arjun Kapoor’s territory on fire or when Shetty brings Chulbul Pandey (Salman Khan) to spice up the already high-voltage drama is incredible!

For a strory where you know how everything is going to unfold and conclude like, Shetty brings his A game to the table to showcase his strength –which is action and comedy–and dare we say, he doesn’t miss a single beat. While some sequences look stretched out beyond their capacities, and some could easily have been edited out, all in all one enjoys this ‘copverse’ studded with bharpoor dialoguebaazi and seemingly never ending ‘action’.
