Will work for Cong: Expelled U’khand BJP Minister Harak Singh Rawat

As the Congress leaders are tight-lipped on the issue of Harak Singh Rawat, the sacked BJP Minister in Uttarakhand, joining the party, Rawat himself has opened up and said he will work for the Congress and that the talks with the party are on and he is camping in Delhi.

While speaking to the media on Monday, he said, “The wind is blowing in favour of Congress and I will work for the party that comes to power.” He said the situation will be clear within days as the last date of nomination is near.

Rawat, a habitual party hopper, had left the Congress in 2017 to join the BJP. He says the circumstances were different at that time and he considers former Chief Minister Harish Rawat as his elder brother. But it is the former CM, who had stalled his entry into the party for the past several months, sources said, as Harush Rawat has not forgotten the rebellion by the flock led by Harak Singh.

Harak Singh Rawat on Sunday was dropped from Puskhar Singh Dhami government. Rawat was also expelled from the BJP for six years for indiscipline.

BJP sources said that Rawat was asking for tickets for three of his family members, including his wife in the Assembly polls. “He has been dropped from the Dhami Cabinet and expelled from the party for six years,” sources said.

It is learnt that Rawat, present in the national capital, is likely to join the Congress on Monday. “Rawat is in touch with the Congress leadership and is likely to join the party. Rawat’s daughter-in-law may also join the party with him on Monday,” sources said.

Last month, Rawat had left a cabinet meeting and announced his resignation. He threatened to resign, demanding a budget for a medical college in his Assembly constituency, Kotdwar, and had said that the Rs five crore sanctioned for the medical college was not enough.

Mumbai Airport Customs Arrests Couple For Smuggling Hydroponic Weed Worth Over ₹5 Crore To Sri Lanka

Mumbai: A couple from Navi Mumbai has been arrested by the Customs Department at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) for allegedly smuggling hydroponic weed worth Rs 5.45 crore from Colombo. The accused, identified as Mohammed Saud Siddiqui (29) and his wife Sana Siddiqui (27), were detained by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) after a tip-off about a suspicious trolley bag they were carrying.

Officials said that when the couple’s baggage was checked, three airtight packets were found hidden inside. On testing the contents, officers confirmed the packets contained five kilograms of banned hydroponic marijuana, a high-grade variant of cannabis.

However, the couple has claimed innocence, stating they were victims of a scam. While presenting their case in court, the Siddiquis said they had received an offer of a free trip to Colombo through social media.

Believing it to be genuine, they accepted the offer, completed visa formalities, and flew to Sri Lanka. On their return, the person who had arranged the trip gave them a parcel of chocolates to deliver in Mumbai. They alleged they were unaware that the parcel contained drugs.

Their lawyer, Advocate Sunil Tiwari, told the court that the couple had been trapped in a fabricated case and had no knowledge of the contents of the parcel. “An unknown person used social media to lure them with a free holiday and made them unwilling carriers,” he said.

The Customs Department has booked the couple under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They were produced before a local court on Monday and have been remanded in judicial custody until October 28 while investigations continue.
