The Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP has commenced preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with its state president K. Annamalai sounding the poll bugle in a party convention held at Madurai.

Annamalai in his speech on Tuesday said that the party will be taking up the good work conducted by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre across the nook and corner of the state and this will be a major accelerator for the party’s 2024 election preparedness.

It is to be noted that the BJP state president has put in place a new team of office-bearers and announced the list on May 6.

Sources in the BJP told IANS that Annamalai has been given a free hand by the party national leadership and, hence the resentment that was brewing in the party after the announcement of the list of office-bearers will come down.

The BJP state president is planning to conduct a state tour highlighting the achievements of the NDA government at the Centre and also focusing on the women-centric programmes carried out by the Modi government.

The development works carried out by the Union Ministry of Roadway Transport and Highways in bringing out good connectivity will also be a feature to be highlighted by the BJP in Tamil Nadu.

The BJP state president has also exhorted the party’s local leaders to take up the issue of the double standards adopted by the DMK government in the state, including on issues like NEET, CUET, property tax hike issue, law and order, appointment of Vice-Chancellors to Universities and other teething issues faced by the people of Tamil Nadu.

The back to back custodial deaths in two separate incidents will also be highlighted by the BJP in its campaigning among the people.

Sources in the BJP told IANS that the party will also be indulging in strengthening its grassroots units and communicating with the people on the failures of the DMK government in the state as well as the public welfare measures taken up by the Narendra Modi government at the centre.

With the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the BJP is also planning to project proper candidates in all the 38 seats taking into consideration the public image and other criteria that will bring victory to the party candidates. Sources also said that the state BJP would conduct a detailed survey on the issues that are to be highlighted during the campaigning other than what is being focused at present.

Mumbai: Mumbai woke up to sunny skies on Tuesday morning after a stretch of relentless rains since the past few weeks. Unlike the past few days saw heavy and persistent rainfall, today’s forecast signals quieter conditions.

While the sky will remain overcast throughout the day, only light drizzles are expected in certain parts of the city. The maximum temperature is predicted to hover around 30°C, while the minimum will remain close to 25°C.

Thane and Navi Mumbai, both of which dealt with waterlogging in several pockets due to heavy showers earlier this month, are also likely to experience milder weather today. The forecast suggests occasional light rain but no significant downpours. Skies will stay cloudy, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 30°C.

Palghar district, which has also endured continuous rainfall, is likely to see only light drizzle today. Overcast skies will dominate, with occasional spells of humidity causing a mild rise in discomfort. Temperatures are forecast between 24°C and 29°C. While the rainfall intensity is expected to remain low, residents can still anticipate damp and cloudy conditions.

In Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, districts that bore the brunt of torrential rains over the last two months, conditions have finally eased. For the first time in weeks, there are no alerts for heavy rainfall. Instead, the day will see scattered drizzles in some places and moderate showers in others.

Overall, the weather will remain mild, offering some respite to coastal towns that have faced flooding and travel disruptions. Daytime temperatures are set between 29°C and 31°C, a touch warmer than in recent weeks.

After two months of relentless downpours along the Konkan coast, a noticeable shift in the weather has finally brought much-needed relief to residents. Districts including Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, which have been under continuous heavy rainfall warnings, are now experiencing a break from the intense showers.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that no fresh weather warnings are in place for the Konkan belt today. Although skies remain gloomy and the air humid, the absence of heavy showers is providing a much-needed breather to residents and civic authorities alike.

Thane Crime: Senior Citizen’s Bag With Gold Worth ₹58,000 Stolen In Rickshaw By Woman With Child In Dombivli

Published

Thane: A 76-year-old woman’s bag containing a gold chain, a gold ring, and cash worth Rs 58,000 was stolen in a rickshaw in Dombivli by a woman travelling with a small child. The incident took place last Friday, after the victim, Vijaya Bhosale, returned from Ganpati celebrations in Konkan and hired a direct rickshaw from Pandit Dindayal Chowk to her home in Thakurwadi, near Dombivli West railway station.

As the rickshaw began its journey, a 40-year-old woman with a child forcibly entered the vehicle, despite Bhosale stating she had hired it for a solo trip. During the ride, the woman attempted to touch the gold chain around Bhosale’s neck.

When questioned, the woman denied any wrongdoing. However, she had placed her bag close to the elderly woman and managed to steal the gold ornaments and Rs 4,500 in cash from Bhosale’s wallet without being noticed.

It was only after reaching home and attempting to use her phone that Bhosale discovered the valuables were missing. She then realised the theft likely occurred during the shared rickshaw ride. A complaint has been registered at Vishnunagar police station, and authorities suspect the woman who forced her way into the rickshaw is responsible, as reported.

Reports suggest that some women have been targeting passengers near Dombivli railway station, using similar tactics. Complicating the investigation, CCTV cameras in the area were not operational at the time of the incident, making it more difficult for police to track down the suspect, described as chubby and accompanied by a child.
