Filmmaker Rahat Kazmi shares his excitement on the poster launch of his movie ‘Kaya Palat’ at the Cannes Film Festival.

Talking about the movie, Rahat said: “The launch of the film went very well and we are very happy with the launch. The film was shot in Jammu and is based on the river mafia’s true story. The leading character is of a strong woman, a strong girl which is played by Helly Shah whose character name is Kaya and Palat is something on how she turned the tables on the mafia, hence ‘Kaya Palat’.”

“The storyline has suspense and powerful characters. We are thankful to one of India’s best actors Inaamulhaq for hosting it and supporting us always. We are thankful to the India Pavilion and government of India for providing us this platform at the Cannes Film Festival for filmmakers.”

Helly Shah stated: “In ‘Kaya Palat’ I am playing the role of Kaya who is very strong yet very vulnerable. There are a lot of layers in her character as she has gone through a lot in her life, she is unpredictable and I enjoyed playing Kaya.”

“When the story and character was narrated to me I absolutely loved it and wanted to be part of it. Script, story and character are the main subjects on the basis of which I decide if I have to be part of it. The character of Kaya is very dear to me and I hope people will love and enjoy the entire film and the entire experience, the work which we have done for the film. It was a pleasure working with Rahat sir and Tariq.”

“It’s because of this film that I got to explore Jammu. They are amazing people and a team to work with, this collaboration is very special for me,” she added.

Producer and actor Tariq Khan concluded by stating: “It feels great to launch our film poster at the Cannes Film Festival. Cannes has always been very special to us since in 2017 our film ‘Mantostaan’ premiered. As the producer and actor, it becomes difficult to be on and behind the camera but ultimately to move forward you have to take this challenge and deliver it.”

“We will be watching more world cinema at Cannes and promoting Jammu & Kashmir as a place to shoot since it is a beautiful place and every filmmaker around the globe should come and shoot it here.”

The film is written by Rahat Kazmi and Shoaib Nikash Shah and produced by Rahat Kazmi Film Studios, Tariq Khan Films and Tera Entertainment in association with Zeba Sajid Films and Alphaa Productions. The film is slated to release soon on a streaming platform which is not yet announced.

Naseeruddin Shah breaks silence after being trolled for deleting post backing Diljit Dosanjh

Published

Mumbai, July 2: Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah took to social media to share a powerful message after deleting a post in support of Diljit Dosanjh.

Reflecting on the pressure and backlash that followed, Shah reflected on truth and silence in a thought-provoking message, quoting German scientist and philosopher Georg Christoph Lichtenberg. The ‘Omkara’ actor took to his Facebook handle and wrote, “It is almost impossible to carry the torch of truth through a crowd without singeing somebody’s beard. -Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, scientist and philosopher (1 Jul 1742-1799).”

The line, though centuries old, seems to have resonated deeply in the current context, subtly highlighting the backlash the veteran actor faced for removing his post. In the post, he had made religious remarks against those criticizing Diljit Dosanjh’s collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the film ‘Sardaar Ji 3.’ Shah clarified that the actor had no role in the decision to cast Hania Aamir in the film.

In his now deleted post, Naseeruddin Shah wrote, “I stand Firmly With Diljit. The dirty tricks deptt of Jumla Party has been awaiting a chance to attack him. They think they’ve got it at last. He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was. But no one knows who he is whereas Diljit is known the world over, and he agreed to the cast because his mind is not poisoned.”

The 74-year-old actor added, “What these goons want is to put an end to personal interaction between the people of India and Pakistan. I have close relatives and some dear friends there and no one can stop me from meeting them or sending them love whenever i feel like it. And my response to those who will say “Go to Pakistan” is Go To Kailasa.”

A section of users on X criticized the veteran actor for taking down his post merely a day after he had spoken out against the backlash aimed at Diljit Dosanjh.

The fascinating connection between Shefali Jariwala and Salman Khan

Published

on

Mumbai, June 28: Actress Shefali Jariwala, who passed away on Friday night in Mumbai, climbed the ladder to success with the remix of her song, ‘Kaanta Laga’. The actress has an interesting connection with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

Back in the early 2000s, the dot com bubble had burst, a decade had passed since the New Economic Policy of India was enacted. Like other sectors, India’s entertainment industry too was looking west. But to make the content marketable, it was imperative to have the basic thread from India. That’s how the remix of ‘Kaanta Laga’ came to life.

Director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, who are known for ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’, started off with music videos, and were the creative forces behind the remix as they cast Shefali in a bold avatar of a rebellious girl who wants to go to a club.

When the music video came out, it triggered a national uproar over its ‘indecent’ portrayal of a young woman, who reads adult magazines, dresses differently from what the norm was back then, and has a rebellious grain.

The director duo were once told by Salman Khan to stay clear of such disruptive ideas that challenge the moral fabric of the nation. Salman, who worked with Radhika and Vinay in ‘Lucky: No Time for Love’, was not impressed by what the director duo had done in the remix in terms of the visuals.

However, as fate would have it, the same song was used in Salman’s film ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, which was released 2 years after the remix came out. What’s even interesting is that Shefali too featured in the song in the film along with Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who essayed Salman’s best friend in the film.

Shefali entered the ‘Bigg Boss’ house for its 13th season. Salman has been hosting the show for close to 15 years now. It marked the full-circle for the actress. Shefali, whose portrayal was dismissed by Salman at the start of her career, was hosted by the superstar when she became a part of the reality show.

Shefali reportedly passed away on Friday following a cardiac arrest. Her husband Parag Tyagi reportedly rushed her to a hospital in the Andheri area of Mumbai but doctors declared her dead on arrival. Her body has been sent to Cooper Hospital in Andheri for further formalities.
