‘Politics of revenge’, says Congress on ED summons to Gandhis

The Congress has termed the ED summons to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case as “politics of revenge”.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and Abbishek Manu Singhvi said: “This is a politics of vendetta and revenge by the BJP to target opposition leaders as they have done to other opponents in the country.”
The Congress leaders said that there is no case made out of it and its only intention is “malafide”.
As there is no money involved in the case, the Congress sources say that the case was closed in 2015.
Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “National Herald newspaper was started in 1942. At that time the British tried to close it, today Modi government is also doing the same thing as the Britishers did. Now the ED is being used for this purpose. The Enforcement Directorate has given notice to our president Sonia Gandhi and former president Rahul Gandhi.”
The ED on Wednesday summoned Sonia Gandhi and her son and MP Rahul Gandhi to join the investigation in money laundering case relating to the National Herald. Both will have to appear before the probe agency to record their statements on June 8.
The case has been lodged against various Congress leaders including Gandhis for allegedly misappropriating National Herald fund.

FIR Filed Against Imtiyaz Esmail Patni & Mohammed Hanif Nakhande For Forgery By Charity Trust

Mumbai: Mr. Yusuf Ebrahim Gadree, a trustee of the Yusuf Ebrahim Gardee Charity Trust, has filed an FIR against Mr. Imtiyaz Esmail Patni and Mr. Mohammed Hanif Nakhande at the Phydonie Police Station.
According to the complaint, Mr. Gadree had appointed Mr. Patni as the trust’s manager and granted him Power of Attorney; however, he never authorized either Mr. Patni or Mr. Nakhande to be appointed as trustees. Despite this, both individuals allegedly forged Mr. Gadree’s signature on a change report and submitted it to the Maharashtra Waqf Board to declare themselves as trustees.
Mr. Gadree became aware of this fraud after returning to India in 2021. He claims that Mr. Patni and Mr. Nakhande misled him into signing a legitimate change report for their family’s trusteeship inclusion, while they created a fraudulent report to include their names and submitted it.
The Pydhonie Police have registered an FIR under IPC Sections 408, 420, 465, 467, 468, and 471 r/w 34, which pertain to breach of trust, forgery, and fraud-related offenses.

Waqf Bill will not be stopped by threats: Jagdambika Pal on Muslim groups’ protest

New Delhi, March 10: As protests by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) intensify against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which is expected to be presented in Parliament soon, Jagdambika Pal, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), reaffirmed on Monday that the Bill will be passed and not be stopped by threats.
To mount pressure on the BJP’s key allies — TDP and JD(U) — the Board has decided to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on March 13 and is sending invitations to all the Opposition parties to take part in it.
It has warned that if the Bill is still passed, the Board will launch a nationwide movement.
Additionally, they will also approach the Supreme Court with the confidence that justice will be served.
Speaking with media, Jagdambika Pal said, “The Supreme Court is always an option, but should democracy function through threats or by the will of the people? Laws are made by elected representatives, not by threats or violent rhetoric.”
He further criticised the contradiction in the AIMPLB’s approach, where they threaten action while simultaneously seeking legal recourse.
Pal defended the government’s stance, saying that the Waqf Bill had been carefully considered by the JPC after extensive consultations.
“We listened to the AIMPLB for six months, giving them four hours to voice their concerns,” Pal said.
“As a result, we’ve now prepared a 400-page amendment, which addresses the needs of the country’s minorities. This law aims to support vulnerable groups, including the poor, women, orphans, widows, and economically backward Muslims.”
The amendments, according to Pal, ensure that the Bill will benefit those who need it most, making it a crucial step forward for marginalised Muslim communities. He made it clear that no threats would halt the process of passing the law.
Meanwhile, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind lent its support to the AIMPLB’s protest, accusing the government of forcing Muslims onto the streets to defend their rights.
Jamiat chief Maulana Arshad Madani expressed solidarity with the protest scheduled for March 13 at Jantar Mantar, stating that Muslims are being compelled to fight for their rights.

Hold discussion on voters list in Parliament, demands Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, March 10: The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi on Monday demanded a detailed discussion in the Parliament on the contentious issue of voters list, citing alleged discrepancies in the electoral rolls and duplication of Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers.
Rahul Gandhi, speaking in Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour, said that the entire Opposition wanted a discussion on the voters list and appealed to Speaker Om Birla to facilitate the same.
Congress MP’s demand for a discussion on the electoral rolls comes in the wake of the raging controversy over EPIC numbers. Days ago, Congress and TMC trained guns on the Election Commission demanding that it must come clean on the ‘duplicacy’ in the electoral rolls, failing which it will carry out an ‘expose’ on the poll panel.
Last month, Congress also questioned the alleged anomalies in Maharashtra Assembly elections claiming that more voters were added to the list in the past five months, as compared to the past five years.
Raising the pitch on the alleged discrepancies, Rahul Gandhi said in Lok Sabha, “The voter lists are being questioned across the country. Questions have been raised by the opposition in every state, including Maharashtra. It is pertinent that the House holds a debate on the issue.
While demanding a dedicated discussion, he also hurled a direct charge at the Speaker, drawing an instant rebuttal from the latter.
“We accept your remarks that the government does not make voter lists. But we demand a discussion on the issue,” the Congress leader said in concluding remarks.
Meanwhile, a delegation of 10 TMC MPs is set to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to lodge complaints over alleged duplicacy in the EPIC numbers.
The poll panel has however ruled out any discrepancy, stating that duplication of alphanumeric series doesn’t necessarily mean a fake voters list.
The controversy broke out after some reports said that multiple people shared the same EPIC number. As the photos surfaced on social media, this gave strength to claims that duplicate IDs were nothing but amounted to fake voters.
