‘My goal is to have 100 FIRs against me’: Rahul Gandhi swipe following FIR for Akashvani Bhavan protest

New Delhi, Oct 7: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday took a jibe after an FIR was lodged against him for staging an over nine-hour sit-in at the Akashvani Bhavan, saying that he already has 45 cases against him and that his “goal is to have 100 FIRs”.

The LoP made the remarks before heading to the Jantar Mantar, along with INDIA bloc leaders, to continue their agitation against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Speaking to reporters, Gandhi remarked: “I have 45 FIRs against me. My goal is to have 100. I want 100 FIRs to be filed against me. Every FIR is a medal for me.”

Delhi Police has received a complaint against LoP Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other INDIA bloc MPs accompanying them, for forcibly entering the Akashvani Bhawan during their protest on Tuesday, officials said on Wednesday.

Gandhi further said: “As I said yesterday, around 300 MPs from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha wanted to meet the CEC yesterday. He did not meet us. The Delhi Police stopped us, and yesterday they said that we cannot protest there.”

“So, our plan today is to go to the designated protest site, Jantar Mantar, and sit there again and tell the country that, for us, Gyanesh Kumar is not the legitimate Election Commissioner of the country,” he added.

LoP Gandhi reiterated his remarks from Tuesday, saying: “PM Modi, along with Home Minister Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Gyanesh Kumar have together finished the country’s democracy…as I said yesterday, this is treason and action will be taken against those involved in this. Gyanesh Kumar will have to resign.”

Meanwhile, a bus carrying Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other INDIA bloc MPs was currently heading towards Jantar Mantar.

Congress MPs Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Deepender Singh Hooda, Imran Pratapgarhi, and Imran Masood were seen climbing atop the bus.

Earlier in the day, the Congress President hosted a lunch meeting for the INDIA bloc leaders at a restaurant in Janpath.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Kharge said: “Today, we will hold a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar. Until our demands are met, we will continue to hold such protests.”

’80 pc to NDA, 20 pc to PDA’: CM Yogi Adityanath’s swipe at SP ahead of 2027 UP polls

Lucknow, Oct 7: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday took a jibe at the Samajwadi Party (SP), saying that the Rajya Sabha polls in the state have depicted that the results of the upcoming Assembly elections will come down to “80 per cent for the NDA and 20 per cent for the PDA”.

This comes a day after the Samajwadi Party chose to field two candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls, paving the way for its two candidates and the BJP’s eight candidates to win unopposed.

Addressing a gathering in Lucknow, CM Adityanath said: “The Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh have depicted what the results of the Assembly polls are going to be. The fight has again come to 80-20.”

“80 per cent (of seats) to the NDA and 20 per cent to PDA,” the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister remarked.

“You are about to witness what is going to be the condition of the PDA,” he said, while taking a jibe at the Samajwadi Party’s acronym “PDA”.

SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav had coined the term ‘PDA’, which, according to the party, stands for ‘Pichhda’ (Backward classes), ‘Dalit’, and ‘Alpsankhyak’ (Minorities).

On Tuesday, Akhilesh Yadav, in a post on social media platform X, said: “Now our eyes are not on three, but on 403.”

His remark is being viewed in reference to the SP choosing not to field a third candidate for elections to the Upper House of the Parliament, despite intending to do so earlier.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made the remarks while addressing the ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra – Vikasit Bharat Sankalp Sabha’ at Patel Park in Lucknow’s Hazratganj.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service, describing it as a historic journey from a small village in Gujarat to the global stage, saying the milestone was a matter of pride for every Indian.

“Today is a day of pride for every Indian, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is completing 25 years of dedicated public service. On this occasion, on behalf of the people of Uttar Pradesh, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and greetings to the Prime Minister. I also extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the people of the state and every party (BJP) worker on this momentous occasion,” CM Adityanath said.

He mentioned that Prime Minister Modi had completed 25 years of continuous service, first as the Chief Minister of Gujarat and subsequently as the Prime Minister of India.

In October 2001, PM Modi was chosen to replace Keshubhai Patel as Gujarat Chief Minister at a difficult time for the state, which was still dealing with the aftermath of the devastating Bhuj earthquake as well as political and administrative challenges. He remained Chief Minister until 2014 before moving to national politics.

PM Modi’s tenure as India’s Prime Minister has been marked by an expanded international profile for the country, with the government pursuing greater diplomatic engagement, stronger relations with major powers and a prominent role for India in the Global South.

Delhi HC permits Vivo India executive to travel abroad, suspends LOC for four days

Published

New Delhi, Oct 7: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday permitted a senior director of Vivo Mobile India to travel to Bangkok for four days for official meetings and directed suspension of the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against him during the period.

A single-judge Bench of Justice Sachin Datta allowed Harinder Dahiya, the company’s Senior Director of Finance and Accounts, to travel to Thailand, from October 12 to 15 for official meetings concerning statutory audit matters, audit and control transformation, litigation, and business and finance strategy at Vivo India.

The High Court also permitted release of his passport and directed that the LOC against him will remain suspended during the four-day period.

Dahiya had challenged the March 19, 2026 order of the Patiala House Courts, which had rejected his plea seeking setting aside of the LOC, permission to travel abroad and release of his passport.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed the application, contending that Dahiya, as Director and Chief Financial Officer of Vivo India, had played a crucial role in the alleged siphoning of proceeds of crime stated to be around Rs 20,241 crore.

The federal anti-money laundering agency also said that the official meetings could be attended virtually and relied on another order of the High Court, by which the travel application of co-accused Guangwen Kuang alias Andrew Kuang was dismissed.

However, the Delhi High Court said the earlier order concerning Kuang did not assist the ED as it was based on his foreign nationality and the absence of an extradition treaty with China.

Dahiya, an Indian national travelling to Thailand, stood on a different footing, it said.

As part of the conditions, Dahiya has been directed to deposit original title documents of his immovable assets with the High Court Registry as security until his return and furnish his travel itinerary, flight details, address of stay and contact number in Thailand to the investigating officer and trial court.

He has also been directed to intimate the investigating officer and trial court within 24 hours of his return, re-deposit his passport within the same period and appear before the trial court on the next date fixed.

The High Court also directed that Dahiya will not contact any witness, tamper with evidence or do anything prejudicial to the proceedings.

The LOC will automatically revive after October 15.

The High Court clarified that its observations were confined to the present application and would not amount to an expression on the merits of the main case.
