Hyderabad, Sep 29: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana on Tuesday recovered Rs 7 lakh cash from the residence of a barber of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) during searches as part of the investigation into the disproportionate assets case against Additional Medical Superintendent Dr Nori Lakshmi Bhaskar.

ACB officials were conducting searches at the premises linked to five employees of the premier state-run hospital, including barber Dhanraj.

The anti-graft agency, which arrested Lakshmi Bhaskar last week following searches at his premises, found during investigations that some employees of the NIMS were acting as ‘benamis’ of the senior hospital official.

The investigators were shocked to find Rs 7 lakh cash from the house of Dhanraj, whose job at the hospital is cutting hair.

The ACB officials were also examining land documents during searches. They were also looking into the financial transactions of the suspected ‘benamis’ of Lakshmi Bhaskar.

The agency had carried out searches at Bhaskar’s residence and other premises linked to relatives and associates on September 22. It had identified assets worth about Rs 6.13 crore, but the market value of the same was estimated to be around Rs 100 crore.

ACB said that a case was registered against Bhasker, 56, as he had acquired assets disproportionate to his known sources of income by indulging in corrupt practices and dubious means during his service.

Multiple flats, plots, luxury cars and 517.8 grams of gold are among the assets found during simultaneous searches by ACB officials at his residence and seven other places belonging to his relatives, friends, benamis, and other associates.

The officials found documents relating to one four-bedroom flat in a gated community, two triple-bedroom flats in the high-rise gated community at Kukatpally, five double room flats at Manikonda, Petbasheerabad, and Kukatpally, four open plots at Yadradi, Nandigama, Shamirpet and one 800 square yards open plot in Visakhapatnam City, Andhra Pradesh.

They also found bank balances of Rs 41 lakh, deposits of Rs 12 lakh in a Post Office, Rs 35 lakh investment in private financial institutions, Rs 29.55 lakh investment in mutual funds, gold ornaments weighing about 517.8 grams, multiple vehicles and electronic gadgets worth 5 lakh.

Ujjain, Sep 28: A tense situation gripped parts of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh on Monday morning as protests against the proposed partial removal of the historic Shahi Masjid turned restive, with stone-pelting reported and police resorting to tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

A heavy police force remains deployed around the mosque complex amid ongoing preparations for the Simhastha 2028 event.

The unrest centres on road-widening work along an approximately 900-metre stretch from Kanthal Square to Gopal Mandir. Authorities are expanding the route to 15 metres to manage the expected large influx of pilgrims during the major Hindu religious gathering.

Several religious structures fall within the project’s alignment. Officials note that most of around 60 such structures along the route have already been cleared. However, the Shahi Masjid and a nearby mazar close to the “Khade Hanuman Mandir” have become focal points of opposition in recent days.

The Shahi Masjid, described by community members as a centuries-old Waqf property (with some accounts dating it to around 1390), is proposed for partial demolition affecting portions of the prayer hall, a minaret, and related structures.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court in Indore had earlier dismissed petitions challenging the Ujjain Municipal Corporation’s notices, citing public interest and traffic needs for the upcoming Simhastha. A further hearing related to the matter was scheduled for Monday at the Indore High Court.

Anticipating possible enforcement, authorities deployed nearly 2,000 police personnel along with heavy machinery, including earthmoving machines.

Members of the Muslim community began gathering at the Shahi Masjid complex and adjoining roads from Saturday night, raising slogans. The protests continued through Sunday night. Barricades were erected on the “Kanthal-Gopal Mandir” route to restrict movement, and surveillance was conducted using drone cameras.

Police and Rapid Action Force units maintained a strong presence.

On Monday, as the situation remained charged, some youths continued pelting stones at police personnel even as tear gas shells were fired repeatedly, police sources said. More than a dozen and a half shells were used in efforts to disperse the gathering.

Tension continued at the site while forces worked to restore order.

In a related incident during law-and-order duties, Crime Branch TI Pushpa Panchal sustained an injury to her hand. According to police, a group of women was advancing during the protest. While the female police contingent attempted to move them away safely, officers approached the group, who were using a sheet as cover. The corner of the sheet cut TI Panchal’s hand. She received first aid, and her hand was bandaged.

Police confirmed that none of the protesting women was injured and all remained safe.

The administration has emphasised that the road-widening forms part of broader infrastructure upgrades for Simhastha 2028, which is expected to draw crores of devotees. Similar actions have been taken against numerous other religious and non-religious structures across the city to ease congestion near key sites, including the Mahakaleshwar Temple area.

Community representatives have called for the mosque to be spared, while authorities maintain that the work proceeds under legal processes and development plans.

As of the latest reports, a large police contingent continues to maintain security around the mosque, with efforts focused on preventing further escalation while the High Court hearing proceeds.

New Delhi, Sep 28: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has apprehended interstate criminal Harender Nagar alias KD, 33, in connection with an extortion conspiracy targeting a financier in Rohini, recovering two sophisticated illegal pistols and 14 live cartridges from his possession, officials said on Monday.

According to the Crime Branch, Nagar, son of Jaswant Singh and a resident of Bamba­wad village in Dadri tehsil of Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly demanded Rs 1 crore as protection money from a financier based in Rohini.

Police said that after the financier refused to pay the demanded amount, Nagar came to Delhi with the alleged intention of eliminating him, posing a serious threat to his life and security.

During the operation, police recovered two sophisticated illegal pistols and 14 live cartridges from Nagar’s possession.

The accused was also allegedly wanted in connection with a major gold robbery case registered at Baldev Nagar police station in Ambala, Haryana, in which approximately 1.5 kg of gold jewellery was allegedly looted from a van on August 18.

Police said Nagar disclosed his association with the Bhau Gang and named his associate Deepak as the alleged supplier of the recovered arms and ammunition. He was also found to have previously been involved in four criminal cases registered in Delhi and Haryana.

According to the Crime Branch, the arrest is part of its efforts to identify and apprehend criminals allegedly involved in interstate activities, including extortion, robbery and planned violence.

On September 9, SI Sumit and HC Rambir received specific information regarding the presence of Harender Nagar alias KD, who had allegedly made threatening and extortion calls to a financier, Ajay Yadav alias Boss, a resident of Sector 7, Rohini, and demanded Rs 1 crore as protection money.

The information was immediately shared with senior officers, following which directions were issued to trace and apprehend the accused.

According to the information received by the police, Nagar had allegedly come to Delhi with the intention of eliminating the financier after he refused to pay the protection money that had been demanded.

Acting on the information and through technical surveillance, the dedicated team reached Sector 24, Rohini, near a drain, and took strategic positions.

At around 10:45 p.m., on a tip off by a secret informer, the team apprehended a man who was identified as Harender Nagar alias KD, 33, son of Jaswant Singh and a resident of Dadri tehsil in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.

During a search, police recovered a sophisticated pistol along with five live cartridges from the pocket of his jeans. Another illegal sophisticated pistol along with four live cartridges was recovered from his bag, while five additional live cartridges were also recovered from his possession.

The recovered arms and ammunition were seized through a seizure memo.

Subsequently, FIR No. 217/26 under Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act was registered at the Crime Branch police station, and Nagar was arrested in the case.

During sustained interrogation, police said Nagar disclosed that he, along with his associate Deepak, had allegedly hatched a conspiracy to extort money from financier Ajay Yadav alias Boss.

During interrogation, Nagar also disclosed his involvement in a gold robbery conspiracy in Ambala, Haryana.

According to his alleged disclosure, he, along with his associates Deepak, Chhotu and others, had planned to rob gold jewellery while it was being transported in a van.

Police said that in pursuance of the alleged plan, Nagar and five associates robbed approximately 1.5 kg of gold jewellery from a van in Ambala on August 18, 2026.

The accused disclosed that the robbed gold jewellery was taken by his associate Deepak for disposal or sale. Police further said that three to four of his associates had already been arrested in Haryana.

Nagar also disclosed that Deepak was associated with the Bhau Gang and that he had joined him. He further disclosed that the illegal arms and ammunition recovered from his possession had allegedly been provided by Deepak, who is residing in Narela, Delhi.

Information regarding Nagar’s arrest was immediately shared with the concerned police station in Ambala, Haryana.

A team of the Crime Investigation Agency, Haryana, subsequently reached Delhi and interrogated the accused regarding the Ambala gold robbery case.

The Investigating Officer moved an application seeking transit remand of the accused before the court. However, the court directed that the application be moved before the court concerned . Accordingly, Nagar was sent to judicial custody for seven days.
