Lowest in 571 days, India logs 5,784 new Covid cases

India on Tuesday witnessed a major drop in the number of daily Covid cases as it reported 5,784 new infections in the last 24 hours, the lowest in 571 days, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

In the same period, there were 252 new fatalities, which pushed the overall death toll to 4,75,888.

Also in the last 24 hours, 7,995 patients recovered, increasing the cumulative tally to 3,41,38,763. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.37 per cent, the highest since March 2020.

While India’s active caseload stood at 88,993, the lowest in 563 days, active cases account for 0.26 per cent of the country’s total positive cases, which is also the lowest since March 2020.

Also in the same period, a total of 9,50,482 tests were conducted across the country, taking the total figure to over 65.76 crore.

Meanwhile, the weekly positivity rate at 0.68 per cent has remained less than 1 per cent for the last 30 days now.

The daily positivity rate at 0.58 per cent has also remained below 2 per cent for the last 71 days and less than 3 per cent for 106 days.

With the administration of 66,98,601 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s Covid inoculation coverage has reached 133.88 crore as of Tuesday morning.

This has been achieved through 1,40,27,706 sessions.

More than 17.06 crore alance and unutilised Covid vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs, according to the Ministry.

Mumbai: Head of gang who made children dress up as girls arrested, major operation by Crime Branch

Mumbai: A beggar who forced children to beg by dressing them in girls’ clothes and begging has been arrested by the police in Mumbai. He was the head of a begging and living gang. Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 6 has arrested him. Shivaji Nagar Police Station 237/2026 u/s 139, 142, 352, 351(2) BNS along with Sections 4, 6, 8, 12, 17 POCSO along with Section 5 of the Immoral Trafficking of Children and Protection of Women Act along with Section 7 of the Third Person Act (*Forced Sexual Relations with POCSO) was registered against the accused. In this case, the police have registered a case against Babu Ainal Khan alias Babu Guru alias Babu Zankha, aged 30 years, resident of Gali No. 9, near Bab Rehmat Masjid, Rafiq Nagar Part No. 2, Shivaji Nagar. Govindi has been arrested. The complainant’s minor son was kidnapped and forcibly transformed into a third gender and for his financial gain, the child was forced to beg in a local train and the said minor was also forced to dress up as a girl and have natural sexual intercourse with male customers, for which the said crime was registered in the police station. The Crime Branch has taken the accused into custody for investigation of this matter. Based on its confidential information, the Crime Branch arrested the accused from Vashi Naka, who was hiding here by hiding his identity.

According to the information received, the said team had laid a trap in Vashi Kopri village in Navi Mumbai. But the wanted accused became suspicious and started fleeing towards Mumbai in a motor car by another route along with his other accomplices. Then the said team also chased his motor car and arrested him from Panjrapole Junction, Trombay, Mumbai. At that time, it was confirmed that the said wanted accused is the same and he was brought to the Crime Branch office. When he was questioned in connection with the said crime, it was found that he was actively involved in the crime, he was medically examined and handed over to Shivajinagar Police Station for further investigation. The accused has a criminal record against him.

Mumbai: Demand to stop unnecessary rounding of animals before Eid-ul-Azha, Abu Asim Azmi also demands action from DGP Sadanandate

Mumbai: Maharashtra Samajwadi Party leader and MLA Abu Asim Azmi met the Director General of Police of Maharashtra DGP and demanded strict action against miscreants who harassed animal traders and harassed them before Eid-ul-Adha. Along with this, he also demanded necessary action against those who disrupted law and order in Maharashtra on Eid-ul-Adha. In the meeting with the DG, the problems faced by traders during the transportation of animals, including harassment, seizure of sacrificial animals, violence and being framed in false cases, were discussed in detail. It was reported that anti-social elements are taking the law into their own hands and harassing traders at many places, which is creating an atmosphere of fear. In this meeting, the DGP was also informed about the problems faced by the Qureshi community and that other security arrangements, including squads, should be made to ensure smooth transportation of meat during the sacrifice. Azmi demanded that a special helpline number be issued for the safety of traders, clear instructions should be issued that no one except the police should stop vehicles, strict action should be taken against the accused, and the permit process should be simplified. In this regard, Director General of Police DGP Sadanand Dutte gave positive assurances, promised to strictly prepare the guiding principles SOPs, keep the helpline number 112 active and take necessary steps. He also promised to address other demands.
