IND vs AUS, CWC World Cup Final: ‘Some People Say India Could Have Won If The Match Was In Wankhede,’ Sanjay Raut In Veiled Dig At PM Modi

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut took a veiled dig at PM Modi after the heartbreaking loss of Team India in the 2023 World Cup Final on Sunday (November 19). While speaking to the media on Monday, Raut’s remarks implied that if the match had taken place in Mumbai’s Wankhede instead of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India would’ve won the World Cup trophy. However, Raut played safe and attributed these words to ‘some people.’
“Our team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma played really well and won 10 games. However, we lost the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Some people say that we would have won if the match had happened at Wankhede Stadium. I can’t comment about it, though,” said Sanjay Raut.
Raut Alleged Politics In Cricket
Raut earlier on Sunday claimed that cricket had been moved from Mumbai, which was the nation’s traditional powerhouse in the game, to Ahmedabad in Gujarat as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party wanted to hold a ‘political event’.
“The World Cup (final) is happening in Ahmedabad. Earlier, Mumbai was the Mecca of cricket. All such events were organised in Delhi, Mumbai or at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Entire cricket was moved from Mumbai to Ahmedabad because they (BJP) want to a do political event,” Raut claimed. In its pursuit of political gains, the BJP will not spare even cricket, Raut alleged.
Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, which is the world’s largest cricket stadium with a capacity of 1.32 lakh, hosted the final of the World Cup between India and Australia yesterday.
About India’s Heartbreaking Loss
Chasing a below-par score of 241 for victory, Australia rode on 137 from opener Travis Head and an unbeaten 58 from Marnus Labuschagne to reach the target in 43 overs to silence the 1.3 lakh spectators present in the venue, just like Pat Cummins had said before the final.
Head got great support from Labuschagne at the other end as the duo stitched a192-run partnership for the fourth wicket to take Australia to victory in their 8th World Cup final.

Mumbai Rains: Thane Youths Swim Through Floodwaters To Rescue Car-Trapped Passengers

In yet another display of courage and compassion during the monsoon, two youngsters in Thane risked their lives to rescue two people trapped inside a car submerged in floodwaters. The dramatic incident, caught on camera and widely shared on X, is a reminder of how Mumbaikars stand by each other in times of crisis.
The video shows a white car stuck in an underpass, tilted dangerously with its bonnet submerged while the rear end remained slightly above water. Inside the vehicle, two passengers, the driver and his companion, appeared helpless, unable to escape as the water levels rose around them.
As the situation grew critical, two local youths swam through the murky rainwater towards the car. Without hesitation, one of them climbed onto the vehicle, using his strength to push the elevated rear end down. This simple but daring act allowed both passengers to slide out of the car to safety. The second rescuer stayed close, ready to support and guide them through the water.
The video quickly went viral, earning admiration from citizens for the bravery and quick thinking of the rescuers.
Such incidents reflect a long-standing truth about the city and its people: in the face of adversity, Mumbaikars never hesitate to help strangers. Whether during devastating floods, train accidents or smaller day-to-day emergencies, stories of ordinary citizens turning into heroes have consistently emerged.
The Thane rescue is just one among countless examples of this unbreakable spirit. While the heavy rains continue to cause hardship, this act of courage has offered a powerful reminder that solidarity and humanity shine brightest in difficult times.

Mumbai Rains: Waterlogging On Tracks Near Dadar, Thane & Jogeshwari; Several Passengers Stranded As Local Train Services Disrupted Amid Heavy Rainfall

Mumbai: Mumbai’s suburban railway network, the city’s lifeline, was badly hit on Tuesday morning after overnight rains left several stretches of track waterlogged, throwing services off schedule and leaving thousands of commuters stranded.
Central Railway services were the worst affected, with trains running 30–40 minutes late during the morning rush hour. Harbour Line trains towards CSMT also faced delays. Local train services were partially suspended from Panvel as per commuters.
Local Trains Moving Through Waterlogged Tracks
Visuals from across the city painted a grim picture. At Dadar station, waterlogging on the tracks slowed train movement considerably, while on the Andheri–Jogeshwari stretch, tracks were submerged, disrupting operations.
At Thane and Kalwa, frustrated passengers, unable to wait for delayed trains, climbed down onto the railway lines and walked along the tracks in large numbers. At the Kalwa car shed, citizens gathered on the tracks attempting to board outgoing trains. Similar chaos unfolded at Ghatkopar and Dadar where water accumulation stalled services.
Officials later clarified that trains were running with minor delays, around 10 minutes on the Central Line and 5 minutes on the Harbour Line, but for commuters on the ground, the impact was far greater. Western Railway, meanwhile, said its services were running normally.
The breakdown of rail services had a cascading effect on road transport. Bus depots outside Thane and Dadar stations saw heavy crowds as stranded passengers looked for alternatives. With several arterial roads already clogged due to flooding, the city struggled under mounting pressure on all modes of transport.
The overnight downpour left several low-lying areas submerged, including Byculla, Gandhi Market in Sion, Dadar, Andheri and Vile Parle, where residents waded through knee-deep water. Visuals showed major junctions under water, further slowing down vehicular movement.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a nowcast warning at 10:15 am on Tuesday, forecasting intense spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, over Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and the ghats of Pune over the next three to four hours.
Mumbai Police Commissioner issued an advisory urging citizens to remain indoors unless travel was absolutely necessary. “Please take care, step out only if necessary, prevent going near the shore during high tide and don’t forget, you will find us around the corner for help, in case of any emergency,” he wrote on X, also appealing to offices to allow employees to work from home.

Mumbai Rains: Harbour Line Local Train Services Suspended Between Chunnabhatti & CSMT As Heavy Showers Cause Waterlogging On Tracks

Mumbai: Mumbai’s suburban railway network, often described as the city’s lifeline, was severely disrupted on Tuesday morning after heavy overnight rainfall left several stretches of track waterlogged, derailing schedules and leaving thousands of commuters stranded during peak hours.
Harbour Line Services Suspended
Harbour Line services bore the brunt of the disruption. Authorities confirmed that train operations between Chunnabhatti (CLA) and CSMT were suspended until further notice due to severe waterlogging at Chunnabhatti station.
In addition, commuters reported that services from Panvel were partially suspended, further affecting connectivity to south Mumbai. Central Railway services also struggled to maintain normalcy, with trains running 30 to 40 minutes late through the morning rush.
Though officials later clarified that trains were only around 10 minutes late on the Central Line, the situation on the ground told a different story, with massive disruptions across multiple stations. Western Railway, on the other hand, maintained that its services were operating normally.
Waterlogging On Tracks
Commuters faced chaotic scenes at major junctions. At Dadar, waterlogged tracks slowed movement to a crawl, while on the Andheri–Jogeshwari stretch, flooding disrupted services altogether. In Thane and Kalwa, exasperated passengers, unwilling to wait indefinitely, climbed down onto the tracks and began walking in large groups.
Crowds gathered on the tracks near the Kalwa car shed as people tried to board outgoing trains directly. Similar incidents were reported at Ghatkopar and Dadar, where water accumulation stalled operations and added to the morning mayhem.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a nowcast warning at 10:15 am, cautioning that intense spells of rain accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, were likely over Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and the ghats of Pune during the next three to four hours. The forecast added to concerns of further disruption if the rain persisted.
