Delhi poll results: AAP’s shock loss and BJP’s big comeback sparks meme frenzy on social media

Published

on

New Delhi, Feb 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has crossed the majority mark as per latest trends of Delhi Assembly election results. Trends till 12:45 PM showed that the BJP secured 48 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stood at 22 seats.

These developments have ignited a veritable meme fest on social media, with internet users taking playful jabs at Arvind Kejriwal’s APP and the Congress.

One X user shared a meme depicting contestants ready for a race, with the BJP and AAP positioned toward the finish line while Congress is humorously shown heading in the opposite direction — a sarcastic commentary on Congress’ absence from the lead.

Adding to the humour, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) took to X, posting, “According to sources Bhagwant Mann Singh has blocked the phone number of Arvind Kejriwal.”

The meme parade continued with another image featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal inside a wrestling ring, where Kejriwal is shown taking a severe beating at the hands of the Prime Minister.

In a further display of satire, a meme circulated showing a recent video of SP MP Awadhesh Prasad sobbing, with the caption referring to him as “Arvind Kejriwal after seeing Delhi Election Result.”

Another video clip portrays him crying as he views the election results, emphasising that the AAP has not even managed to touch the halfway mark.

Yet another meme depicts Delhi voters fervently hyping the BJP while illustrating the AAP struggling to stay afloat and the Congress figuratively underwater.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also joined in on the social media banter by taking a swipe at the INDIA bloc — particularly Congress and the AAP — after early leads suggested a sweeping victory for the BJP in Delhi.

In a social media post, he quipped, “aur lado aapas mein” (fight each other some more).

The jest continued with a meme showing Congress Minister Rahul Gandhi checking the number of zeroes, a pointed dig at his party for failing to secure even a single seat.

One X user compared former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to cricketer Virat Kohli, humorously portraying him as wiping away tears. Kejriwal, contesting from the New Delhi constituency, is locked in a three-cornered fight against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit, and is currently trailing.

The overall contest in Delhi appears increasingly to be a battle between just two parties — AAP and BJP. In one meme, Kejriwal is seen declaring, “Desh mein Modi ki koi hawa nahin hai!!” (There is no Modi wave in the country), only for Prime Minister Modi to retort humorously by urging Kejriwal to remove his muffler and feel the air.

Another meme takes a dig at the former Chief Minister’s renovated residence, referred to as ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ with a caption reading, “Utho Sunita, Sheesh Mahal khaali karne ka waqt aa gaya hai.”

A viral video shows two young girls dancing in a manner that has been compared to Swati Maliwal and Bansuri Swaraj celebrating Kejriwal’s fall, while yet another meme features Game of Thrones’ Khalisi — likened to Swati Maliwal — laughing as the AAP government appears to burn behind her.

The single-phase Delhi Assembly elections were held on February 5, and votes are being counted at the moment. Today’s results will determine whether Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP will return to power for a fourth term or if the BJP will make a significant comeback in the national capital.

Currently, top AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain, are in the fray, while BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Kailash Gahlot have taken clear leads.

Fight against BJP will continue: Atishi after winning from Kalkaji

New Delhi, Feb 8: Delhi’s outgoing Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Atishi has secured victory from the Kalkaji Assembly constituency, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by over 3,000 votes.

Extending gratitude to the people of her constituency Atishi remarked, “I want to thank the people of the Kalkaji Assembly for placing their trust in me.”

“I also want to express my gratitude to my entire team, who worked tirelessly at the grassroots level, enduring muscle power, hooliganism, and violence to reach out to the people. The mandate of the people of Delhi is clear, and we accept it. This is not a time for victory; this is a time for battle and the fight against BJP will continue,” she added.

However, despite her win, AAP is trailing in the overall election trends.

Meanwhile, as per the latest trends, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 47 out of 70 seats, positioning itself to secure a majority, while AAP is trailing with 23 seats. The results signal a major political shift in Delhi, with BJP making significant gains in AAP’s stronghold.

Earlier in the day AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal conceded defeat as election results showed the BJP securing a clear majority in the Delhi Assembly elections.

Kejriwal, who lost his New Delhi constituency seat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma, accepted the verdict with humility and extended congratulations to the winning party, the BJP.

“The election results for Delhi are out, and we humbly accept the people’s verdict. The decision of the public is paramount, and we respect it with all our heart,” Kejriwal said in a video message.

He congratulated the BJP for its victory and expressed hope that the party would fulfill the expectations of the people.

Milkipur Bypoll: Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav Accuses BJP Of ‘Misusing’ Electoral Machinery

Published

Lucknow: Accusing the BJP of “misusing” the electoral machinery to win elections, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said, “The true victory of PDA in Ayodhya in the Lok Sabha elections is many times greater than their false victory in the Milkipur Assembly and will always be so.” In a post on X, Yadav also said, “The BJP cannot face the growing power of PDA on the basis of votes, that is why it tries to win by misusing the electoral machinery.

“The level of manipulation of officials required to carry out such electoral fraud may be possible in one assembly constituency, but this ‘chaar sau beesee’ (apparently referring to cheating) will not work in 403 assembly constituencies. The BJP members also know this, that is why the BJP members postponed the bye-election of Milkipur,” he said.

Akhilesh Yadav Mocks BJP’s Milkipur Win As ‘False Victory’

“This is a false victory, which the BJP will never be able to celebrate by looking into their own eyes in the mirror. Their guilt and the fear of future defeat will keep them awake,” Yadav said.

The officials who have committed the crime of electoral fraud will be punished sooner or later, Yadav said.

“The BJP will use them and then let them go, they will not become their shield. When they lose their jobs and pension, they will alone suffer the punishment of a life of humiliation among their children, family and society,” he said.

The Milkipur bypoll was necessitated after Awadhesh Prasad vacated the seat following his election to the Lok Sabha last year.

While the SP is looking to retain the seat, the BJP sees the election as an opportunity to avenge its loss in Faizabad in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh polls, Milkipur was the only seat the BJP lost in the Ayodhya district. While the BSP did not contest the bypoll, the Congress backed its alliance partner SP.
