CBI nabs ‘insider’ for fake ‘clean-chit’ to Anil Deshmukh
In a massive embarrassment, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said that it has raided and arrested its own sleuth for allegedly conniving to prepare a ‘purported’ clean-chit to former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, here on Thursday.
The raids took place in New Delhi and Allahabad while the arrest took place early Thursday, hours after the CBI had swooped on Deshmukh’s son-in-law Gaurav Chaturvedi and his Nagpur-based lawyer Anand Daga late on Wednesday evening, from Worli in Mumbai. The Chaturvedi-Daga duo was detained and their statements recorded till the wee hours when the complicity of an inside hand, the CBI’s own official — a Sub-Inspector Abhishek Tripathi — was also confirmed.
The CBI said in a terse statement this morning that it has registered a case against its own SI, the Nagpur-based lawyer (Daga) and other unknown persons for certain allegations, including corruption.
“During the investigations of the said case, CBI has today arrested the SI (Tiwari), while the lawyer (Daga) is being questioned,” the agency said, even as raids were carried out in New Delhi and Allahabad and his personal lockers in the CBI offices here.It maybe recalled that last weekend, media and political circles were rocked by a report purportedly giving a ‘clean-chit’ given to Deshmukh in the Bombay High Court-ordered preliminary enquiry (PE).
Rattled by the alleged leak, the CBI had issued two strong rebuttals on the issue, and quietly launched a probe into the matter which culminated in the nabbing of an ‘inside hand’ in the sordid episode. The unsigned-undated-unattributed alleged PE report triggered a fresh political row with the Nationalist Congress Party and Congress demanding that the CBI should comment on the authenticity or otherwise of the report. As a fallout of the incident, the CBI picked up Chaturvedi and Daga on Wednesday and early Thursday, nabbed its own (CBI) sleuth for allegedly conniving with them to prepare the fake PE report.Slamming the move, State Congress Spokesperson Sachin Sawant said it was extremely “extremely serious” as they were taken away without serving any notice.”The laws are being trampled and the country is run by ‘Modi-Shah’… ‘Whatever we say is the law’, the Modi government should officially declare,” said Sawant.NCP National Spokesperson and Minister Nawab Malik said that they were taken away “illegally, without any prior intimation or notice”, raising questions if there is rule of the law in the country or the law of the rulers.
“The CBI must clarify under what laws and norms the action was taken without following the due process of law,” Malik said sharply. There has been speculation in some circles that Deshmukh, who’s on the radar of the ED and CBI but has yet to respond to their multiple summons, may be in contact with his family members.

BMC issues notice to Saboo Siddik Hospital for illegal occupation, bills like private hospital in the name of charitable hospital
Mumbai: Mumbai’s Saboo Siddik Hospital has become a topic of discussion these days. Although this hospital is called charitable, the fees here are no less than any private hospital. This hospital, run by the Muslim Ambulance Society, has been a victim of controversies many times before. Patients admitted here have to pay a huge amount in the name of charity hospital. According to the information received, many illegal activities have taken place in this hospital and now BMC has become active regarding this. BMC has issued a show cause notice to this hospital. If sources are to be believed, the place where the MRI and pathology lab has been built is actually a car parking space which the hospital administration has occupied and converted into a lab and given it on contract to a private company which arbitrarily charges money from patients in the name of MRI and blood tests. Along with this, the upper floor of this hospital has been illegally converted into a general ward. In this connection, Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s Executive Health Officer Dr. Daksha Shah has ordered an inquiry into this.
According to the information, many officials of the health department of B ward have also been involved in this whole matter. Although, according to the hospital, they had got the illegal works done in the parking lot approved from BMC, but they have failed to show the documents of the same. On which BMC has now asked the hospital for all the documents on the basis of which this illegal construction was made legal and pathology and MRI centers were built on it. If reports are to be believed, a huge amount is charged from people in the MRI center and pathology lab. If patients are to be believed, they have to pay a charge of three and a half thousand to fifteen thousand for getting an MRI done.
In the same pathology lab, 1500 is charged for CBC and a huge amount is charged from people for doing other tests. This business of loot in the name of charity has been going on for many years. Which has now come to the notice of BMC. A huge amount is being charged from people by occupying the upper floor under the guise of general ward. Apart from this, fire systems and storage items have been kept in the entire building on the stairs, which is against government norms. The hospital also does not have the license of Bhabha Atomic Research Center, which is said to be necessary for X-ray. Now it remains to be seen how BMC puts a stop to this story of looting that has been going on for many years.

RG Kar case: Trinamool MLA urges party colleagues not to attack victim’s parents
Kolkata, Jan 29: At a time when the Trinamool Congress leaders are attacking the parents of the victim in the R.G. Kar rape and murder case for opposing the death sentence to the sole convict Sanjay Roy, party MLA has urged them not to make such comments.
In a significant post on social media platform on Wednesday morning, the Trinamool Congress legislator from Debra constituency in the West Midnapore district, West Bengal and a retired IPS officer Humayun Kabir indirectly issued an appeal to his party leaders to refrain from launching such attacks against the victim’s parents.
“Not all can realize the pain of the parents who have lost their only established daughter. If you cannot stand by them at least refrain from criticizing them,” Kabir said in his social media post.
Kabir’s observation on this count is being viewed as immensely significant since senior Trinamool Congress leaders have been launching scathing attacks against the victim’s parents since they made it clear on January 27 why they were against the death penalty for Roy now.
The most objectionable remark on this count was made by controversial and maverick Trinamool Congress legislator Madan Mitra on Tuesday where he hinted the observations of the parents against the death penalty for Roy were probably prompted by their real desire for hefty compensation for the tragedy.
Within hours, the victim’s father gave a strong counter-reaction claiming that he was ready to pay money to Mitra provided the latter could bring back their daughter.
Now, Kabir’s appeal to refrain from criticising the victim’s parents has evoked murmurs in the corridors of power in the state.
However, in the same social media post, Kabir also requested the victim’s parents to refrain from making any political comment on the matter.
The retired IPS officer had also made it clear that since the beginning he was of the opinion that Roy was the only offender in the crime of rape and murder.
This is not the first time that Kabir has raised his voice against a section of his party leadership on sensitive issues.
In December last year, after the West Bengal municipal affairs & urban development Minister and the Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim claimed at a public programme that the current “religious minorities” will soon become “majorities” in the state as well as the country, Kabir opposed those comments through a social media post.
Then, Kabir started his post by referring to a line by iconic Indian actor Late Rajesh Khanna in the legendary movie ‘Anand’ — “Jindagi lambi nahi badi honi chahiye Hujur Hakimji. We want quality not quantity. It is better to have just two kids who will either become teachers or doctors or even cops like me, rather than having five kids who will become hawkers or migrant labourers or rickshaw pullers or vegetable vendors,” read his post then.
