New CM tomorrow at BJP’s ‘Viksit Delhi Pledge Ceremony’ in Ramlila Maidan

New Delhi, Feb 19: Asserting that a new chapter of the national capital’s progress was unfolding, Delhi BJP on Wednesday invited the people for the ‘Viksit Delhi Pledge Ceremony’ at Ramlila Maidan where the Chief Minister and the rest of the cabinet will take oath.

In a post on social media platform X in Hindi, the Delhi BJP said: “A new chapter of Delhi’s progress is about to begin. With the ‘Viksit Delhi Pledge Ceremony’, we all together will move towards new heights of development in Delhi. Come to Ramlila Maidan and witness this historic moment!”

The post mentions that the ceremony will take place on February 20 at 10 a.m.

Interestingly, the BJP has named the oath-taking ceremony ‘Viksit Delhi Pledge Ceremony’ following its promise of putting the national capital back on track of development. The party has blamed the previous AAP government for failing to perform its duties. Ahead of the polls, the BJP in its manifesto, named ‘Viksit Delhi Sankalp’ had promised that when the party forms the government, it will “give Delhi a new direction”.

Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing for the oath-taking ceremony of the BJP government at the historic Ramlila Ground in Delhi on Thursday.

According to sources, the new chief minister and the entire Cabinet will take oath at a large-scale event, expected to be attended by the Chief Minister of the NDA-ruled states.

The event will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, and other dignitaries. The Chief Minister’s name will be chosen by the BJP Legislature Party at its headquarters on Wednesday evening.

The BJP legislature party’s meeting is likely to take place around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, said a Delhi BJP leader, adding that soon after the meeting a signed letter of support from all the MLAs in favour of the new Chief Minister and Leader of the House will be presented to Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V.K. Saxena.

On Wednesday, several rounds of meetings were held in the Delhi BJP office.

The BJP won 48 of the 70 seats in the Assembly elections defeating the Aam Aadmi Party which secured 22 seats. The Congress party failed to secure a single seat for the third consecutive time. Notably, the lotus bloomed in the national capital after 27 years.

Will resign as Bengal CM if allegations of terror links are proved: Mamata Banerjee

Published

Kolkata, Feb 18: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Tuesday, claimed on the floor of the Assembly that she will resign from her position if the allegations against her and Trinamool Congress of having terror links are proved.

“Some are alleging that I am neglecting the Hindu religion and have links with the Muslim League. They also accused us of having links with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. I have to listen to all such things. If you can prove such allegations I will resign as the Chief Minister. I will write to the Prime Minister and ask him whether he believes in such allegations,” the Chief Minister said on Tuesday noon while delivering her address on the opening speech by Governor C.V. Ananda Bose for the Budget Session of the Assembly on February 10.

Without directly naming the BJP, CM Banerjee said that those who are floating such allegations against her and her party enter into clandestine understanding with the Muslim League before any election.

“They take the help of the Muslim league before any election. The balloon will be busted someday. The people will give them fitting reply if they continue with such falsehood,” she added.

Speaking on the occasion, she also launched a scathing attack against the BJP and the Uttar Pradesh government on the recent event of stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

“Maha Kumbh has turned into ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ now. The event was used to earn a huge amount of money. Special treatments were given to the VVIP there, while the common people were neglected. Here in West Bengal, we have stopped the VVIP culture at the Gangasagar Mela. An accident can happen at any mega event. But proper planning is required to prevent such mishaps,” the Chief Minister said.

While she was addressing the House, the Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, who had been suspended for a month on Monday, was delivering his address on the same matter from outside the House which he was telecasting live through his social media page.

The Chief Minister also said that since the Trinamool Congress is in power in West Bengal, peace has been maintained in the state despite the recent political crisis in Bangladesh.

“This is a gift of people from all religions in the state. You have given provocations at the international borders in the state. But do not forget that the state is also a part of the country,” CM Banerjee added.

Youth Congress protests against stampede deaths in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 18: Workers of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) held a protest here on Tuesday over the recent stampede at New Delhi Railway Station in which 18 people were killed and several others were injured, demanding action against those responsible for the alleged negligence resulting in the tragedy.

The protesters shouted slogans and attempted to break police barricades during the demonstration in central Delhi.

During the agitation, the IYC workers were holding placards and shouting slogans demanding action against those responsible for the incident.

Earlier on Monday, on the direction of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devender Yadav, a complaint was filed before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking a probe into the 18 deaths in the stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station on February 15.

The complaint, filed by the Legal and Human Rights Department (LHRD) of the DPCC, asked the NHRC to constitute an enquiry committee to probe the tragic incident.

Yadav, in his complaint, pointed out that the tragedy happened due to the irresponsibility of the Railway authorities and security enforcers as they took no steps to manage the swelling crowd of devotees headed to Prayagraj for taking a holy dip during the Maha Kumbh.

He questioned how the Railways could sell 1,500 tickets per hour for passengers bound for Prayagraj without making the necessary arrangements for coaches or crowd management.

Yadav said that he has demanded that the NHRC probe should fix responsibility and ensure that strict action is taken against those responsible for the tragedy.

The DPCC delegation consisted of LHRD Chairman Sunil Kumar, Rajesh Garg Chairman Booth Management, Advocate Sajid Chaudhary, Advocate Sheikh Imran Alam, Advocate Nishkarsh Gupta, Advocate Megha Sehra, Advocate Babar, Advocate Pratap Singh, Advocate Deepak Pilot and Law Student Karthikeya Garg.

Meanwhile, the government has set up a two-member committee to probe the stampede.

The committee, comprising Narsingh Deo, PCCM/Northern Railway, and Pankaj Gangwar, PCSC Northern Railway, on Sunday ordered the securing of video footages of platforms 14 and 15 of the station where the massive crowd of passengers had gathered.

On Sunday, the probe panel also inspected the tragedy site and started collecting statements of witnesses of the stampede to corroborate it with the CCTV footage.

The Railways have announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for the seriously injured passengers and Rs 1 lakh for those who suffered minor injuries in the stampede.
