50 right-wingers recite ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ outside Qutab Minar, 44 detained

The Delhi Police on Tuesday detained 44 right wing activists from outside Qutab Minar in the national capital after they reached there to recite the ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ (a Hindu prayer).

A total of 50 people affiliated to right wing groups had gathered outside the world heritage site Qutab Minar to recite Hanuman Chalisa on a call given by United Hindu Front (UHF) Working President, Jai Bhagwan Goyal.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south Delhi) Benita Mary Jaiker said no permission was granted to the activists to gather there. “The 50 people that gathered there belonged to United Hindu Front and Rashtravadi Shiv Sena,” the DCP said. Of them, 44 activists were detained under section 65 (Persons bound to comply with the reasonable directions of police officers) of the Delhi Police Act.

Meanwhile, there was heavy police deployment outside the Qutab Minar complex. United Hindu Front (UHF) president Jai Bhagwan Goyal, who had given a call to reach the complex at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, while exclusively speaking to IANS, said that he was placed under house arrest since morning at his residence in Delhi’s Shahdara area. “At least 10-15 police personnel were outside my house. They were not allowing me to leave,” the UHF president said. When IANS contacted Delhi Police, a senior official said Goyal has not been placed under house arrest. “We received instructions from the south Delhi police not to allow Goyal to reach the Qutab Minar,” official sources said, adding that the police has been deployed just to ensure that Goyal does not reach Qutab Minar.

“He is not under house arrest,” the source told IANS.

The origins of Qutab Minar are shrouded in controversy. Some believe it was erected as a tower of victory to signify the beginning of the Muslim rule in India. Others say it served as a minaret for the muezzins to call the faithful to prayer.

“First stop calling it a Qutab Minar. When Qutab-ud-din Aibak came to India, he demolished Hindu and Jain temples and started calling it Qutab Minar. This is not Qutab Minar, it is Vishnu Stambh. Its name should be immediately changed,” Goyal demanded. He added that several Hindu idols are still present inside the complex and many of them are broken, which is proof that a temple was demolished there. “At least allow us to religiously immerse those idols which are broken and lying inside the complex,” said Goyal.

He demanded that those idols, which are not broken, should be installed there and people should be allowed to visit and pray.

According to Delhi Tourism, Qutab Minar is a soaring, 73 m-high tower of victory, built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak immediately after the defeat of Delhi’s last Hindu king. The tower has five distinct storeys, each marked by a projecting balcony and tapers from a 15 m diameter at the base to just 2.5 m at the top.

Ten persons arrested for attack on Congress MP, says Assam CM

Guwahati, Feb 21: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday that ten persons have been arrested in connection with the attack on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain.

Taking to social media platform X, CM Sarma said, “The police have identified the individuals involved in the alleged incident of assault on Congress MP Sri Rakibul Hussain.”

He also mentioned that the actions will be taken as per the law.

The Dhubri MP was attacked while attending a public programme in the Nagaon district.

The Congress MP had to run from the spot wearing a helmet to save himself. The security officers of Hussain sustained minor injuries in the attack.

In a viral video, it was seen that some masked miscreants initially showed black flags to the Congress MP and after that attacked him.

In the video, Hussian was seen fleeing from the spot in a two-wheeler to save himself from the attack.

The incident that happened in the Ruporihat locality drew criticism from the opposition with Congress leaders training guns on the BJP government.

Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, launched a sharp attack on the BJP government as Congress MP Hussain was attacked on Thursday.

Gogoi said, “In Assam, a Congress Lok Sabha MP is attacked by thugs in broad daylight in a busy marketplace. The goons even attack the police security officers and try to snatch their weapons. All of this is recorded on camera. Yet the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma refuses to ensure that the thugs will be arrested immediately.”

“The Chief Minister should at least think of his constitutional duty towards Assam Police and the innocent civilians in the marketplace. If the goons had got hold of the machine gun, a terrible tragedy could have taken place. The attitude of the Chief Minister will only embolden the thieves, dacoits, smugglers and those accused of murder. Democracy is under threat and people of Assam want freedom from this gunda raj culture,” he added.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Debabrata Saikia said it was a “failure” of the police and administration.

Mumbai: A major revelation has emerged in the investigation into the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique. A video of fugitive accused Zeeshan Akhtar has gone viral on social media, in which he claims to have received shelter and assistance from notorious Pakistani gangster Shehzad Bhatti.

Key accused claimed from the viral video that Shehzad Bhatti from Pakistan allegedly helped him escape and provided protection. Zeeshan Akhtar claims to be outside the Asian continent. The video also contains direct threats to rival enemies.

“I have been falsely implicated in the Baba Siddique case, and Shahzad Bhatti helped me escape from India,” Zeeshan says in the video. He adds, “Shahzad Bhatti is like an elder brother to me; he protects us. He secured asylum for me in a country far from India.” Zeeshan also issued threats to his alleged enemies, intensifying the controversy surrounding the video.

Following the video’s release, Shahzad Bhatti himself confirmed his involvement in Zeeshan’s escape, referring to him as a “brother.” Bhatti, a notorious gangster based in Pakistan, is known for his provocative social media presence, frequently sharing videos featuring firearms and issuing threats. He recently made headlines for a video call with Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Bhatti’s alleged connections to Pakistan’s underworld have even led to a ban on him within his home country.

Meanwhile, authorities are working to verify Zeeshan’s identity and investigate the authenticity of his claims. The Mumbai Police’s cyber team is analyzing the footage to track Zeeshan Akhtar’s whereabouts and verify his claims of receiving assistance from Shehzad Bhatti.
