$4,97,000 seized from passengers’ saree, shoes at Mumbai Airport

The Mumbai Airport customs have seized USD 497,000 worth around Rs 4.10 crore concealed in the saree, shoes and suitcases of a family arriving here from Dubai, officials said here on Thursday.
The operation was carried out late on November 2 when the three-member family landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by a FlyDubai flight FZ-446.
Following a tip-off, a targeted operation was carried out by the Air Intelligence Unit and the family, including two senior citizens, was intercepted.
The sleuths carried out a thorough search of the baggage and also subjected them to a physical frisking.
The AIU recovered and seized the bundles of USD concealed in one of the passenger’s saree folds, the inner sole of the shoes and one of the suitcases the family was carrying.
The three persons have been arrested and produced before a Magistrate Court which has remanded them to 14 days judicial custody.
Further probe was underway.

Bihar: 7-yr-old boy dies after brutal assault by teacher

A seven-year-old boy died in Bihar’s Saharsa district on Friday after an alleged brutal assault by his teacher.
The victim, Aditya Kumar, was an LKG student at a private school in a village under the Sadar police station. He had been living in a hostel since the last 10 days.
His parents are residents of the adjoining Madhepura district.
According to the police, the school administration informed Aditya’s parents that he became unconscious and was admitted to a private hospital.
By the time his parents arrived, the victim died.
“We sent our child to the school cum hostel in Saharsa district on March 14. We received a phone call on Friday that Aditya became unconscious and was admitted to a private hospital. When we reached the hospital, he was already dead,” said Prakash Yadav, Aditya’s father.
“We have sent the body for post-mortem to ascertain the actual cause of death. The family members alleged that he died due to the physical assault. We are also trying to arrest the owner of the school. He is absconding. We have lodged an FIR and efforts are on to nab him,” said Brajesh Chauhan, Sub-inspector of Sadar police station.

Maharashtra: 4 killed as truck rams into tempo on Ahmednagar-Pune highway

According to the police, approximately 15 people were returning to their native place in Shirur tehsil of Pune district in a vehicle after visiting some religious sites in Ahmednagar district.
A truck coming from Pune suddenly veered off from its path, jumped the divider and collided with their vehicle. Three people died on the spot, while another person succumbed to his injuries in hospital,” said an officer from the Ahmednagar police.
He said seven other passengers in the ill-fated vehicle were injured and were being treated at a hospital.
According to the police officer, a case has been filed against the truck driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Dhanbad: 4 dead, many injured as coal mine caves in during illegal mining.

At least four people died and many more were injured after a coal mine caved in during illegal mining in the Tetulmari police station area of Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district on Thursday.
The injured have been admitted to a local hospital.
The incident took place in BS Mining Outsourcing company’s excavation project in West Modidih colliery at around 6 a.m.
According to sources, more than a dozen people had entered the tunnel to extract coal, during which the roof of the mine collapsed. Eyewitnesses said that four persons died on the spot and their bodies were recovered by villagers.
During the Jharkhand Assembly proceedings on Thursday, BJP legislator Dhullu Mahto claimed that around 10 people had died in the accident.
He stated that large scale illegal mining was taking place in the district and asked when the administration would stop such acts.
He demanded that Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) officials to be booked in the matter and for them to pay a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the deceased’s next of kin and an amount of Rs 5 lakh to the injured.
