UP Fishermen Catch And Eat Dolphin From Yamuna River; Arrested

Four fishermen have been booked for allegedly illegally catching a dolphin from the Yamuna river and eating it, the police said on Monday.

One of the fishermen was arrested after the police took cognizance of a purported video of the incident that went viral on social media on Sunday, they added.

According to a complaint lodged by Chail forest ranger Ravindra Kumar on Monday, a dolphin got trapped in a net when four fishermen from Naseerpur village here were fishing in Yamuna in the morning on July 22, Pipri SHO Shravan Kumar Singh said.

They brought out the dolphin from the river and carried it on their shoulder to a house, where they cooked and ate it, Singh said.

The forest ranger, in his complaint, added that some passersby filmed the fishermen while they were carrying away the dolphin, the SHO said. 

Based on the forest ranger’s complaint, a case has been registered against Ranjeet Kumar, Sanjay, Deevan and Baba under the Wildlife Protection Act (1972), the police said.

Ranjeet Kumar has been arrested and is being interrogated, the SHO said, adding that efforts are on to nab the remaining accused.

Mumbai Crime: Ujjain Man Arrested In Ghatkopar With Two Pistols, Live Cartridges; Remanded To Police Custody

In a major crackdown, the Pantnagar Police arrested Ajay Kailash Kayat (24), a resident of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly carrying two pistols and live cartridges. The arrest took place on October 9 near the Ghatkopar–Andheri Link Road.

According to the FIR, secret information was received by API Rajendra Gaikwad of the Pantnagar Police’s Anti-Gunda Squad that Kayat would be present near a pan stall in front of the Ghatkopar bus depot. Acting on the tip-off, the police laid a trap and apprehended him.

During a frisk, the police recovered four live cartridges from his jeans pocket and two country-made 0.32 mm pistols from his bag. An Oppo mobile phone was also seized from his possession.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Kayat, a labourer by profession, had brought the firearms and ammunition illegally for sale without a licence. He has been charged under Sections 3, 25, and 37(1)(a) of the Arms Act, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.

The court has remanded Kayat to police custody until November 12, the police said, adding that further investigation is underway to determine the source of the weapons and possible links to other offenders.

New Delhi: A car explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening caused widespread panic. The force of the blast was so intense that a part of the car landed on the Lal Mandir, located near the Red Fort. The temple’s glass shattered, and doors and windows of several nearby shops were damaged. Several people were reported injured in the incident.

Immediately after the blast, fires were reported in nearby shops. Tremors were felt as far as the Bhagirath Palace area of ​​Chandni Chowk, and shopkeepers were seen calling each other to inquire about the situation. Several buses and other vehicles were also reported to have caught fire.

The fire department received a call about the car explosion in the evening. Following this, it immediately dispatched six ambulances and seven fire tenders to the scene. Relief and rescue operations are underway, and efforts are underway to control the fire.

The cause of the explosion is still unknown. Police have cordoned off the area, and investigating agencies are gathering evidence at the scene. Initial reports suggest the explosion occurred in a car, but its nature and cause are still unclear. Security has been increased throughout the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk areas following the incident.

Thane: Man Stabbed To Death In Dombivali Hotel After Minor Altercation

Thane: A man was stabbed to death in Dombivali in Thane district during an altercation after he accidentally brushed against another person, a police official said on Monday.

The incident took place in a hotel in the early hours of Sunday in MIDC Phase 1 area, the Manpada police station official said.

“Akash Bhanu Singh (38) and his friends were having dinner at the hotel when he accidentally brushed against the accused, who picked up a fight. He along with some others stabbed Singh to death. Two of Singh’s friends, who tried to save him, also sustained injuries and have been hospitalised,” the official said.

Four persons were booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for murder and other offences, though no arrest has been made, he said.
