Top AIKS leader dropped from Maharashtra govt panel on farmers’ demands

Published

on

In an unexpected move, the Maharashtra government has dropped All India Kisan Sabha General Secretary Dr. Ajit Nawale from a committee constituted to oversee the implementation of the farmers’ demands, officials said here on Saturday.

Soon after the government accepted many of the demands of the peasants — currently on halt in Vasind, Thane en route their ‘long march’ — a panel was formed for the purpose of implementing the same.

From the AIKS side, the names forwarded were AIKS President Dr. Ashok Dhavale, Dr. Nawale, CPI(M) MLA Vinod Nikole and ex-legislator Jiva Pandu Gavit.

The shocking discovery was made when the farmers’ leaders went to check the minutes of the meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and others on Friday.

The AIKS leaders even asked the secretaries why Dr. Nawale’s name was missing from the panel, but did not get any clear reply.

The AIKS leaders have pointed fingers at Fadnavis, claiming he is opposed to Dr. Nawale’s inclusion in the panel owing to the latter’s aggressive stance.

“This is not the first time, even after the previous agitation, Fadnavis had attempted to divide the farmers and then excluded me from the delegation meetings with the government. This is conveying a wrong impression to the farmers,” Dr. Nawale said.

However, Dr Nawale said that this time there are two powerful leaders — Gavit and CPI(M) MLA Vinod Nikole who are capable of taking on the government and ensuring that the farmers are not let down

Party leaders claim that Fadnavis — then the CM — was reportedly irked after Dr. Nawale deftly resisted efforts to drive a wedge among the farmers after their strike in June 2017.

Meanwhile, the farmers’ leaders have said that the state government’s orders on the implementation part have been received and a decision whether to continue or end the ‘long march’ will be taken later in the day.

Mumbai: In the Torres Investment scam, one of the Ukrainian Gang accused, Ukrainian national Lurchenko Igor, has been located in Ukraine. Igor is among nine foreign nationals alleged to have orchestrated the multi-crore investment fraud before fleeing India, evading law enforcement.

Ukraine Authorities Monitoring Igor’s Movements

A senior officer from the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) confirmed that Ukrainian authorities recently informed Indian agencies that Igor, who was under a Blue Corner Notice issued by Interpol at EOW’s request, was traced in May. Authorities in Ukraine are reportedly monitoring his movements closely. The extradition process for the foreigner accused was started, according to sources. He is likely to be brought to India soon.

Ukranian Actor Booked

Meanwhile, in another development in the multi-crore Torres scam, the Bhoiwada Police have registered a case against accused Armen Ataine (48) for illegally obtaining a fake birth certificate from the BMC’s F-South Ward. Along with Armen, two unidentified individuals who assisted him in acquiring the fraudulent document have also been booked under sections 120B, 34, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, and 474 of the Indian Penal Code.

During the investigation, the Bhoiwada Police discovered that Armen’s father, Garun Ataine, had lived in Lalbaug’s Jam Building between 1975 and 1978. Armen allegedly used this information to fraudulently secure an Indian birth certificate.

The Torres Investment scam involved duping many investors with promises of high returns. The fraud came to light after the accused had already left the country, making it challenging for local agencies to initiate immediate legal action. Indian authorities are now working with their Ukrainian counterparts to pursue further legal proceedings.

Mumbai: A speeding BEST bus collided with a stationary truck in Mumbai’s Goregaon on Friday morning, leaving five people injured, including the bus driver. The truck, notably, had recently been seized by the police in a theft case and was parked at the site when the crash occurred. Vanrai Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Video Shows Damage Caused To BEST Bus After Crash

A video from the scene that surfaced online shows the BEST bus with its front completely mangled and the passenger exit door twisted from the impact. The rear end of the truck also appears badly damaged. Both vehicles were left obstructing the road, while onlookers gathered around to document the scene on their phones.

Police have launched an investigation to determine whether negligence or speeding was the primary cause. It is speculated that the seized truck was left in a lane without clear markers, contributing to a potentially avoidable accident.

BEST Bus Collides With Poultry Tempo

The incident follows another accident involving a BEST bus just weeks ago. On June 23, near the Sayani Road signal, a minor collision occurred between a BEST bus and a poultry-carrying tempo. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Details On The Crash

The bus, on Route 162 between Worli and Sewri and operated by the Tata Motors-led BVG Group, was moving through the intersection around 7:15 am when the tempo (MH 10 CR 9534) abruptly veered from the left and struck the front-left portion of the bus. Although the front windshield was shattered and the bus sustained minor exterior damage, there were no injuries in that incident.

Officials from the Worli Bus Depot acknowledged the June 23 incident and confirmed that all required protocols were followed, with a complaint lodged at the Dadar Police Station.
