Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu has heaped praises on Mithali Raj, who is the first-ever Indian woman cricketer to receive the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.

Taapsee will be seen playing Mithali Raj, who has the distinction of being the highest ODI run-getter in women’s cricket, in the biopic titled ‘Shabaash Mithu’, directed by Srijit Mukherjee.

Posting a video of the women’s cricket team captain being bestowed the honour by President Ram Nath Kovind, Taapsee tweeted: “Just by hearing this exhaustingly long introduction of her accolades I feel she actually deserves a series made on her, not just a film.” She added: “So inspiring.”

The actress has wrapped up shooting for ‘Shabaash Mithu’. She also treated her fans to a picture of her in the film.

Alongside the image, she wrote: “8 ki thi jab kisi ne ek sapna dikhaya tha ki ek din ayega jab cricket sirf gentleman’s game nahi hoga. Humaari bhi ek team hogi, ek pehchaan hogi … ‘Women in Blue’ Aa rahe hai hum … Jald hi … #ShabaashMithu IT’S A FILM WRAP! Get ready to cheer for the World Cup 2022! #WomenInBlue”

In translation, Taapsee’s caption reads: “I was eight when someone made me dream of the day when cricket would not be only a gentleman’s game. Women, too, will have a team, an identity. ‘Women in Blue’ are coming soon. Very soon.”

With the next ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup being scheduled to be held in New Zealand in March-April 2022, and with India under Raj’s captaincy aiming to make it to the final for the third time (and win the trophy), the biopic couldn’t have been more appropriately timed.

Urvashi Rautela on sharing Miss Universe stage with Sushmita Sen: She gave me the wings to fly

Mumbai, Aug 24: Actress and former beauty queen Urvashi Rautela was one of the judges for Miss Universe India for the fourth consecutive time.

The evening became even more special for Urvashi as she got to share it with Sushmita Sen, someone who has played a crucial role in Urvashi’s journey.

She recalled that Sushmita was the one who gave her the wings and confidence to fly.

Talking about sharing the moment with her ‘Guru’ Sushmita, Urvashi said, “Sharing this moment with my first mentor, my guru, and our first-ever Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen, makes it infinitely more special. She was the woman who gave me the wings to fly; when she personally crowned me on my coronation night, which is the rarest thing as she never does it, it became one of the most surreal and cherished moments of my life.”

Urvashi further opened up about how deeply the faith shown towards her by Sushmita has stayed with her over years.

Expressing her gratitude towards the former Miss Universe, Urvashi added, “I still wonder why she chose to believe in me, but perhaps some blessings are not meant to be explained, only cherished. I feel blessed beyond measure to God, my parents, my family, my fans, my loved ones, and especially my guru Sushmita. I owe a gratitude that words can barely contain. Some dreams are achieved, others transcend imagination. This feels like the latter.”

Meanwhile, Urvashi also made a lot of heads turn during the event with her gorgeous tricolour gown.

“Our team was told that my fourth consecutive appearance as a judge at Miss Universe India has created a world record and made history, and I am truly humbled and profoundly grateful. At Cannes, when an international journalist asked me what India meant to me, I instinctively answered, ‘I am India.’ Today, while judging Miss Universe India 2026 in a tricolour gown, those words feel even more profound. I am immensely proud to be Indian,” Urvashi shared.
