SP MP Zia-ur-Rehman seeks legal relief over Sambhal violence case

Published

on

New Delhi, Dec 18: Samajwadi Party MP, Zia-ur-Rehman Barq, has filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court, seeking a stay on his arrest and the quashing of an FIR related to the violence that erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal during a court-mandated survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid.

Barq has argued that his arrest would lead to “irreparable loss” and labelled the allegations against him as politically-motivated.

Denying his involvement in the incident, which claimed five lives and injured several others including 22 policemen, the Sambhal MP accused the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh of using the case as a means to target him for harassment.

Barq also asserted that he was not present in Sambhal at the time of the violence or the survey, claiming that he was in Bengaluru.

He stated that he planned to return to Sambhal to calm the situation but decided to remain in Delhi after learning about the FIR.

Despite staying away, Barq maintained he reached out to his community members over the phone to promote peace.

The violence in Sambhal unfolded after a local court ordered a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid amid claims that the site previously housed a temple.

The situation escalated with stone-pelting and arson targeting security forces, leaving over 20 police personnel injured and many vehicles damaged.

Barq, along with Sohail Iqbal, son of local MLA Iqbal Mehmood, has been named in the FIR. Authorities allege that Barq visited the mosque days before the violence and delivered provocative remarks that incited the unrest.

Barq’s plea highlights his contention that the charges are baseless and driven by political vendetta, emphasising the “vengeful” stance of the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh. The matter now awaits a decision from the Allahabad High Court.

Congress and its rotten ecosystem: PM Modi’s scathing attack over Ambedkar row

Published

on

New Delhi, Dec 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a blistering attack at the Congress party, accusing it of indulging in every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and also humiliate the SC/ST communities.

PM Modi’s tirade came on back of Congress’s demand for the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah, whom they accused of disrespecting Dr Ambedkar during his speech in the Rajya Sabha.

In a series of posts on X, PM Modi lambasted the Congress, claiming the party had a long history of undermining Ambedkar’s contributions.

“In Parliament, HM Amit Shah ji exposed the Congress’ dark history of insulting Dr. Ambedkar and ignoring the SC/ST Communities. They are clearly stung and stunned by the facts he presented, which is why they are now indulging in theatrics! Sadly, for them, people know the truth!”

“If the Congress and its rotten ecosystem think their malicious lies can hide their misdeeds of several years, especially their insult towards Dr. Ambedkar, they are gravely mistaken!”

PM Modi further wrote. “The people of India have seen time and again how one party, led by one dynasty, has indulged in every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and humiliate the SC/ST communities.”

He emphasized his government’s commitment to realizing Ambedkar’s vision, citing landmark initiatives aimed at improving the lives of marginalized communities.

“It is due to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar that we are what we are! Our government has worked tirelessly over the last decade to fulfill his vision,” he said.

Shedding light on flagship programs of his govt, the Prime Minister pointed to various initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Ujjwala Yojana, highlighting their transformative impact on the poor and marginalized.

“Our Government has worked tirelessly to fulfil the vision of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar over the last decade. Take any sector – be it removing 25 crore people from poverty, strengthening the SC/ST Act, our Government’s flagship programmes like Swachh Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ujjwala Yojana and more, each of them has touched the lives of the poor and marginalised,” he said.

PM Modi also detailed steps taken by his government to honor Ambedkar’s legacy, particularly the development of Panchteerth, five key sites associated with Ambedkar’s life. Among these, he mentioned the resolution of the long-pending issue of land for Chaitya Bhoomi and the government’s acquisition of 26, Alipur Road in Delhi, where Ambedkar spent his last days.

“The house in London where Dr. Ambedkar stayed during his studies has also been acquired and preserved,” PM Modi added, underscoring the government’s efforts to enshrine Ambedkar’s memory in the national consciousness.

The Prime Minister also mentioned how Congress tried to obliterate the legacy of Dr Ambedkar.

“The list of the Congress’ sins towards Dr. Ambedkar includes: Getting him defeated in elections not once but twice. Pandit Nehru campaigning against him and making his loss a prestige issue. Denying him a Bharat Ratna. Denying his portrait a place of pride in Parliament’s Central Hall,” he said.

“Congress can try as they want but they can’t deny that the worst massacres against SC/ST Communities have happened under their regimes. For years, they sat in power but did nothing substantive to empower the SC and ST communities,” PM Modi added.

PM Modi’s sharp retort at the Congress party goes to spotlight the ‘hypocrisy’ of grand old party on the Dalit icon while positioning his government as the one which upholds and respects Ambedkar’s legacy.

Srinagar, Dec 18: Security forces said on Wednesday that a large cache of arms, ammunition and narcotics was recovered during searches in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Kupwara district.

Officials said on Wednesday, “Security forces, including the Army and the police recovered four pistols, six pistol magazines, four kilograms of narcotics, and other incriminating materials during a search operation in the general area of Amrohi, Tangdhar in Kupwara District.”

Security forces have started an aggressive campaign against terrorists, their Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and sympathisers in order to dismantle the terror ecosystem in J&K.

Properties worth multiples of crores belonging to drug smugglers and peddlers have been attached in Kashmir Valley after obtaining requisite orders from the competent authority.

Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha has been chairing top-level security meetings.

During these meetings the LG has given clear orders to the security forces to go all-out against the terror ecosystem.

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah is chairing a top level security review meeting regarding J&K on Thursday in Delhi.

Chiefs of Intelligence agencies, police, CAPFs and others connected with the anti-terrorist grid in J&K will attend the meeting.

Security forces revised their strategy after terrorists carried out some dastardly attacks in the aftermath of peaceful people participative Lok Sabha and legislative Assembly elections in J&K.

These elections were witnessed by diplomats of many countries and this, according to Intelligence agencies, has frustrated the terror handlers sitting across the border in Pakistan.

Intelligence inputs indicate that the terror handlers have given directions to terrorists in J&K to give dying terrorism its last push.

Heightened vigilance is also being maintained at the border in J&K following reports that terrorists are waiting at the launching pads to sneak into the Indian side of the border before the mountain passes are closed by this season’s snow.

New Delhi: Opposition MPs including Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi held a protest in the Parliament premises against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Babasaheb Ambedkar on the Rajya Sabha during the Constitution debate.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Varsha Gaikwad, Kumari Selja, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, RJD MP Manoj Sinha along with others participated in the protest.

The Opposition MPs were seen carrying pictures of Babasaheb Ambedkar. They have alleged that Amit Shah insulted Ambedkar in his speech yesterday.

About Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Remark

This came after Amit Shah lashed out at the Congress party and said that it had become a ‘fashion’ for the party to take Ambedkar’s name.

“If they had taken the name of God so many times instead of Ambedkar then they would have got heaven for seven lives,” Shah said.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm after the opposition protest.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh On Amit Shah’s Remarks

Earlier today, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh in reply to Shah’s remarks in Parliament on Babasaheb Ambedkar said that the BJP was habituated to “chant” the name of the first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru to disguise their inability to tackle problems of inflation, unemployment and inequalities faced by the country.

Jairam Ramesh pointed out, “To escape the present-day challenges, they have to chant Nehru’s name. If they don’t, people will ask them what they are doing about inflation, unemployment, and inequalities”

“Yesterday, the Home Minister gravely insulted Babasaheb Ambedkar. He said ‘You people keep chanting Ambedkar, Ambedkar. It would have been better if you chanted the name of God.’ If this isn’t an insult to Dr Ambedkar, then what is? The truth is that the BJP, the Prime Minister, and the Home Minister repeatedly insult Ambedkar and blame the Congress party instead,” Jairam Ramesh said.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh On Amit Shah’s Remarks

Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Wednesday lambasted Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks on BR Ambedkar and said that the nation will “definitely respond” to it.

Taking to X, Rajya Sabha MP Singh said, “How much Amit Shah, Modi and the entire BJP hate Baba Saheb Ambedkar… such hatred on hearing Baba Saheb’s name… the nation will respond, Amit Shah ji will definitely respond.”
