New Delhi, Sep 16: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin will undertake a two-day visit to Indore and Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, from Thursday, September 17.

The visit comes amid BJP’s preparations to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completion of 25 years in public service and his birthday under the party’s nationwide ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’. The ‘Swamitva Scheme’ event in Indore is one of the key highlights of his visit to state.

Nabin will also light ‘Ashirvad Ka Diya’ at Ujjain’s Ram Ghat, leading the celebrations to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service.

Nabin is scheduled to arrive at the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport in Indore in the afternoon on September 17, where senior BJP office-bearers and party workers will welcome him.

After participating in local programmes, the BJP President will reach Gandhi Nagar Ground where he will take part in an event organised under the ‘Swamitva Scheme’.

During the programme, he will formally inaugurate the new statewide registration process under the scheme.

Towards the evening, Nabin will head to Ujjain, where he will participate in the ‘Maa Shipra Aarti’ at Ram Ghat.

As part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, the BJP chief will light the ‘Ashirvad Ka Diya’ at the banks of the Shipra river, amid a large-scale devotional programme.

According to the BJP, lakhs of illuminated diyas will be lit up at the Ram Ghat during the programme, creating a festive and spiritual atmosphere along the banks of the river.

Nabin will also attend a ‘Bhajan Sandhya’ organised at the ghat.

On the second and final day of his visit to the state on September 18, Nitin Nabin will offer prayers at Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple, attend the sacred ‘Bhasma Aarti’ ritual at the renowned Jyotirlinga temple and also perform traditional worship rituals.

The two-day visit will combine BJP’s organisational and public welfare programmes with religious and spiritual engagements in Indore and Ujjain as part of the party’s nationwide activities marking Prime Minister Modi’s 25 years of public service.

Pune, Sep 16: Pune Police have registered separate cases against two house owners for allegedly renting out their flats to Yemeni nationals for the past seven to eight years, without informing the police.

According to police, the tenants’ passports had expired and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRO) had issued restriction orders against them. Their passports have been deposited with the authorities.

The cases were registered at Kondhwa police station under relevant provisions after the house owners allegedly violated police orders by concealing information about the foreign nationals staying at their properties.

Senior Police Inspector Santosh Khetmals of Kondhwa police station told media that deportation proceedings against the Yemeni nationals have been initiated by the FRO.

In the first case, a case was registered against house owner Khan Faheema Jabbar, 55, a resident of Ghorpade Peth, for allegedly renting out her flat to a Yemeni family without informing the police.

In the second case, house owner Jabbar A. Sattar Khan, 62, also a resident of Ghorpade Peth, was booked for allegedly renting out his flat to another Yemeni family without informing the police.

Police said further action in the matter is being taken in coordination with the FRO.

This is however not the first such incident in Pune.

Earlier, on August 13, the special branch of Pune City Police arrested and detained 11 Yemeni nationals and two Afghan nationals from Yevalewadi, Phursungi and Kondhwa for allegedly staying illegally in India.

In 2022, Pune Police had deported a six-member family from Yemen, comprising three adults and three minor children, after they were found to have overstayed in India.

The police had identified the deported Yemeni nationals as Alkharraz Waled Abdurabu Ateq, 37, his wife, Heba Yahya Mohammed Hussen, 33, his brother, Shawqi Abdurabu Ateq, 34, and his three minor children.

Washington, Sep 16: The US military campaign against Iran cost the Pentagon about $38 billion through July and could consume another $2 billion to $3 billion each month, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

The nonpartisan agency also warned that the conflict has depleted critical missile-defence stocks, increased energy prices and added to inflation across the American economy.

The CBO examined operational, logistical and economic costs associated with Operation Epic Fury, which began on February 28.

The initial phase lasted until a ceasefire took effect on April 8. President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire over on July 10 after attacks on tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The $38 billion estimate includes $21.7 billion to replace missiles and other munitions. It also covers $10.4 billion in additional flying hours, $2.7 billion in higher military fuel costs, $1.9 billion for equipment lost in battle and $1.5 billion in other operational expenses.

Replacing expended munitions was the largest single expense. The total included $13.1 billion for missile-defence interceptors and $7.3 billion for land-attack cruise missiles.

The estimate does not include the cost of repairing or rebuilding US military facilities damaged by Iranian attacks. It also excludes diplomatic operations, foreign assistance and the long-term cost of medical care and disability compensation for injured service members and veterans.

CBO said the Pentagon did not provide the information it requested. The agency relied instead on government databases and publicly available reports, leaving its findings subject to “considerable uncertainty”.

The report warned that the United States may have used between one-half and two-thirds of its missile-defence interceptor inventory since June 2025.

“Although DoD does not reveal the number of munitions it has on hand, a comparison of the reported expenditures of missile defense interceptors with the total numbers that DoD has purchased to date indicates that the United States has probably used between one-half and two-thirds of its inventory of those munitions since June 2025,” CBO said.

Rebuilding the stocks could take at least five years, even if the Pentagon accelerates procurement.

“The shortfall would become especially problematic if a conflict arose with an opponent whose arsenal included large numbers of ballistic and cruise missiles,” the report said.

CBO specifically identified China as possessing an arsenal that could play a major role in any military conflict involving Taiwan.

The conflict has also disrupted oil and natural gas shipments through the Strait of Hormuz and shipping through the Red Sea. CBO said the resulting increase in energy costs added 2.3 percentage points to the annualised inflation rate during the second quarter of 2026.

The agency projected that inflation in the first quarter of 2027 would be 0.5 percentage points higher than it had forecast before the war. Higher inflation is also expected to push up interest rates on US Treasury securities.

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told Congress in July that operations against Iran would cost $37.5 billion through September. The White House has requested $87.6 billion in supplemental funding, including $67.1 billion for the Pentagon. CBO said about $42.3 billion of the Pentagon request appeared directly related to the conflict.
