Muslim Protest Rally Led By AIMIM’s Imtiaz Jaleel Stopped At Mulund Check Naka; Over 12,000 Protestors Return After Mumbai Entry Denied

Published

Mumbai: A large protest led by former MP Imtiaz Jaleel of AIMIM, along with other political and social groups, gathered over 12,000 members of the Muslim community to seek action against BJP MLA Nitesh Rane and preacher Ramgiri Maharaj over their alleged hate speeches. However, the massive crowd was not allowed to enter Mumbai late at night on Monday and had to return from Mulund Check Naka.

The protest, named the ‘Tiranga Samvidhan Rally,’ began in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and involved hundreds of vehicles from different parts of Marathwada heading toward Mumbai via the Samruddhi Expressway. The convoy caused major traffic disruption, marking the first time a protest rally jammed the expressway.

the crowd reached the Mulund toll plaza late on Monday evening, but after delivering their representation to the divisional collector and other officials, they dispersed peacefully that night without entering Mumbai.

Over 3,000 Cops Deployed To Avoid Any Untoward Incident

Despite heavy police presence and traffic diversions, including over 3,000 officers deployed across the city, the protest concluded without further escalation. Close to 2,000 vehicles reportedly participated, including private buses and mini-trucks, with activists from Dalit and Maratha communities joining the rally.

At the rally, Imtiaz Jaleel expressed deep concern over the growing divisions in Maharashtra along caste and religious lines. He condemned the lack of police action against Rane for his inflammatory speeches and emphasized the need for stricter laws to prevent hate speech and communal incitement. “Muslims are being threatened from the stage; are these not criminal acts? Should action not be taken?” he asked, calling for the immediate arrest of both Ramgiri Maharaj and Nitesh Rane.

Jaleel Attacks Maharashtra Govt

Jaleel also criticised the government’s inaction and highlighted the importance of adhering to the Constitution and the law. He aimed to remind Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of their responsibility to uphold the rule of law, especially in the context of hate speech and communal violence.

While the protest was intended to deliver copies of the Constitution to government officials and demand accountability, the Mumbai police had denied Jaleel permission to enter the city. To prevent any possible unrest, police had erected barricades at the Mulund toll naka, a major entry point to Mumbai, and made arrangements to stop the protestors there. Joint Commissioner of Police Satyanarayan Choudhary confirmed that after handing over their letter, the protestors dispersed without incident.

Jaleel stated that their objective was to peacefully bring attention to the state’s failure to act against hate speech and inflammatory remarks, emphasizing the need for legal action against Rane and Maharaj, who are already facing multiple FIRs for inciting communal tensions.

Mira-Bhayandar Water Cut: MIDC Water Supply To Remain Suspended For 24 Hours On June 4-5 – Details Here

Residents of Mira Bhayandar are set to face a 24-hour water cut as the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has announced that MIDC water supply will remain suspended tomorrow, June 4. According to MBMC, there will be no MIDC water supply from 12 pm on June 4 to 12 pm on June 5.

The MBMC said that temporary water disruption has been scheduled as a precautionary measure in view of the possible impact of El Nino and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions, which could lead to water shortages in the coming months.

Notably, MBMC also added that while water supply from STEM Authority will continue as usual, residents might experience low water pressure and delayed water supply until MIDC services are fully restored.

The MBMC has appealed to residents to cooperate with the civic body and asked them to store only the required amount of water and use it judiciously during the temporary disruption.

Apart from Mira Bhayandar, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has also announced a complete 24-hour water shutdown in several parts of the city from 12 pm on June 4 to 12 pm on June 5. The shutdown will affect areas supplied by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s (MIDC) Jambhul water treatment plant. Areas including Diva and Kalwa ward committees, Mumbra (excluding parts of Ward Nos. 26 and 31), Wagle Estate, and Manpada will face a water shutdown.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the BMC has already imposed a 10 per cent water cut from May 15 to ensure supply until August 19, but concerns persist over the delayed monsoon. Civic data showed that the water stock in the seven lakes supplying Mumbai dropped to 2.13 lakh million litres (ML), or 15.30 per cent of total capacity.

Civic data as of June 2 showed that the useful water content in Upper Vaitarna has been exhausted, while Modak Sagar stood at 33.89 per cent, Vihar at 45.71 per cent, Tulsi at 27.10 per cent, Middle Vaitarna at 22.21 per cent, Bhatsa at 14.57 per cent and Tansa at 10.58 per cent.

‘This Is State Of Monsoon Preparedness In Mumbai This Year?’ Opposition Attacks BJP-Led BMC After Andheri Subway Shuts Briefly After Light Showers

Published

Mumbai: Opposition in Mumbai has slammed the BJP-led Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and questioned the monsoon preparedness after brief pre-monsoon showers flooded the Andheri Subway, causing temporary traffic disruption during peak commuting hours.

Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad took to social media and questioned the city’s monsoon preparedness and alleged that the BMC’s claims of drain cleaning had failed. She said that even before the monsoon had fully arrived, a few showers were enough to flood the Andheri subway.

Taking to X, she questioned, “The BMC, which claims to have spent crores of rupees, has been exposed in the very first rain. If such a light shower causes this mess, what will happen to Mumbaikars in a downpour? The empty claims of drain cleaning and the administration’s inaction have once again come to light! This is the state of monsoon preparedness in Mumbai this year.”

Congress leader Sachin Sawant also criticised the civic body and questioned the ‘sewer cleaning’ work. He further claimed that if light showers could cause waterlogging, the situation could become worse during heavy monsoon rains.

“What will the state be like when the real rain comes?” he questioned. Additionally, Sawant also warned Mumbaikars who are desperately waiting for the monsoon after the scorching summer heat. “From the summer fire, you’re definitely heading into the BJP-created flood during the rains!” he added.

This comes at a time when the BMC has been undertaking several monsoon preparedness measures, including desilting and cleaning major nullahs, clearing garbage, and carrying out road concretisation works.

Notably, in the BMC Elections 2026, the BJP had emerged as the single largest party, winning 89 of the 227 seats, enabling the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance to control the civic body. Earlier in April, when Mumbai’s Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide took charge as the first woman chief of the BMC, she had assured residents that the city would not face waterlogging problems during this monsoon season.
