Mumbai: Goregaon-Malind Link Road flyover project accelerates, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Project) inspects site

Published

Mumbai: Under the Goregaon-Miland Link Road project, an elevated circular path is being constructed along with a flyover with cable at Dr. Hedgewar Chowk on Guru Gobind Singh Road in Khandipara area of Milind (West). The flyover is being constructed with a length of about 1.89 km between Tansa Waterway and Nahu Railway Bridge and this phase is proving to be more challenging in terms of the length of the entire project. A total of 48 pillars are proposed for the main flyover, out of which 39 pillars have been completed. In addition, 10 spans out of the total 47 spans of the flyover have been completed. Along with this, two small flyovers are being constructed on both sides of the main flyover over Tansa Waterway. All these works should be completed in parallel and the entire work of the Goregaon-Miland Link Road project in the Milind area should be completed by June 15, 2027, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijeet Bangar has directed. The work of the small flyover on the Tansa waterway in the north direction should be completed on top priority to ensure smooth traffic. Bangar has also directed that this small flyover should be completed and opened for traffic by May 31, 2026.

Goregaon and Milind is an ambitious infrastructure project undertaken by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Under this project, the Eastern Expressway at Milind and the Western Expressway at Goregaon are planned to be directly connected. The Goregaon-Miland Link Road project, which is about 12.20 km long, is being developed in four phases. Part A of the third phase includes the construction of structures and flyovers with elevated circular route on Guru Gobind Singh Road at Khandipara in Malind (West) and cable stand at Dr. Hedgewar Chowk.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar today (February 4, 2026) visited Sonapur Junction in Malind (West) and reviewed the progress of the flyover. He also gave various instructions. Municipal engineers and consultants were present on the occasion.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar said that the work of Goregaon Link Road includes construction of a 4.7 km long 13 m inner diameter connecting tunnel passing under Sanjay Gandhi National Park and a 1.60 km long box tunnel passing through Dadasaheb Phalke Chittar Nagari and their access roads. Flyovers are being constructed on both sides of the tunnel. Considering the potential traffic on the Goregaon-Miland Link Road, a 1.26 km long flyover is being constructed from Dandoshi Court to Ratnagiri Hotel Chowk in Goregaon East. This flyover in the Goregaon area is expected to be completed by May 31, 2026.

Therefore, the second major part of this project is the flyover in the Miland area. A 1.89 km long flyover is being constructed from Tansa Waterway to Nahor Railway Bridge. This flyover is more challenging in terms of the length of the entire project. The 120 m long bridge at Dr. Hedgewar Chowk is of the ‘cable-stayed’ type and is proposed on the lower level, i.e., level 1, of the ‘Mumbai Metro-4’. The main flyover project has three main parts. It has been divided into a main flyover and two smaller flyovers that will be built on either side of the bridge over the Tansa waterway. Out of these, priority efforts are being made to complete the smaller flyover on the northern side of the Tansa waterway.

Currently, traffic has been diverted for the work on the main flyover. Traffic is being carried out through a narrow underpass. Due to which the citizens are facing traffic jams at this location. This problem may become more serious during the upcoming monsoon. Keeping this in mind, if a small flyover is opened on the Tansa Canal to the north of the main flyover before the monsoon, it will help in smoothening the traffic to a great extent. Detailed planning has been done to achieve this goal. This small flyover will be completed and opened for traffic by May 31, 2026. After this, the work of another small bridge on the Tansa Canal to the south of the main flyover will be started.

After this inspection, Bangar visited the ‘launching shaft’ excavation site for the construction of the twin tunnel in the Dadasaheb Phalke Chittarnagari area of Gorgaon. Two state-of-the-art Tunnel Boring Machines will be used for the construction of the underground twin tunnels for this project. The process of lowering the tunnel mining plant into the shaft will begin in March 2026 after completing the first stage of excavation. The total dimensions of this shaft are approximately 200 meters long, 50 meters wide and 30 meters deep. The excavation required to lower the tunnel mining plant into the shaft has been completed and the cradle work for the start of the tunnel mining plant has now begun.

Sludge removal and drain cleaning should be done quickly, special attention should be paid to low-lying areas and lifting pumps should be kept ready: Ritu Tawde

Mumbai: The Municipal Corporation administration should implement comprehensive and effective measures to effectively control the problem of waterlogging in Mumbai during the monsoon season. In particular, to complete the desilting work in various drains, bridges and drainage systems in Zone 5 more quickly, additional manpower and machinery should be deployed as a special case, as directed by Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde. Mayor Tawde also directed that after reviewing the low-lying areas where rainwater is likely to accumulate, the pumping pumps should be operated at full capacity so that the citizens do not face any problem during the monsoon.
Mayor Ritu Tawde inspected the desilting work from drains at various locations. This included Soumya Drain in Jayambe Nagar in Ghatkopar (East), Subhash Nagar Drain on Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road in Govind, Vashi Naka Drain near Eastern Freeway in Chembur, RC Drain near Jejamata Nagar culvert, Chembur, Nallah near Mansingh Society, and Vidhuja Nallah. The places visited were on the morning of (June 1, 2026) and inspected the sludge removal works. Necessary instructions were also given.
Local Corporator Mahadev Shivgan, Local Corporator Pragya Sadapole, Deputy Commissioner (Zone 5) Scindia Nandikar, Assistant Commissioner M-West Zone Shankar Bhosale, Deputy Chief Engineer (Waterways) Sanjay Angle and other concerned officers were present on the visit.
While inspecting the Washi Naka drain, the Mayor also got to know how the plants used to intercept floating waste, including trash booms and conveyor belts, are being handled effectively.
Speaking to the media during the inspection, Mayor Ritu Tawde said that the work of desilting major and minor drains, including the Mithi river, in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region is progressing at a fast pace. Every year, 80 per cent of the annual target is cleared before the monsoon. This year, the average target of desilting major and minor drains before the monsoon has been achieved. The work of desilting will continue during and after the monsoon. The work of cleaning drains in Zone 5 was progressing slowly due to difficulties in appointing a contractor. Since the initially appointed contractor did not complete the work at the expected pace, a new contractor had to be appointed in his place. As a result, time was lost. However, during the inspection, it was found that the work of removing silt from drains has now accelerated. Since the arrival of rains is expected after the scheduled time this year, the work of removing silt and floating waste from drains should continue in the first week of June as well. Mayor Tawde gave clear instructions that if the process of removing silt needs to be accelerated in Zone 5, additional manpower and machinery should be specially deployed. Mayor Tawde further said that wherever necessary, protective walls should be erected to protect the drains and a long-term solution should be decided. Underground drains and bridges should be cleaned regularly, and wherever necessary, robotic systems should be used to facilitate the process of transporting sewage. All the concerned agencies should work cooperatively and responsibly to keep the drainage system efficient. Submersible pumps should be installed in low-lying areas where rainwater accumulates. Mayor Tawde also clarified that corporators and public representatives should also be provided with information about the work of removing silt from drains. Mayor Tawde also humbly appealed to the citizens not to throw garbage and noisemakers into the drains and cooperate in the efforts of the Municipal Corporation.

BJP government targets Muslims and opposition, bulldozers and encounters instead of punishment through law: Abu Asim Azmi

Published

on

Mumbai: After BJP came to power, the position is being targeted and Muslims are their target. If a Muslim or Yadav commits a crime, he would be encountered. If the same crime is committed by a non-Muslim or upper caste Hindu, he would not be encountered. After the murder incident in UP, MLA Abu Asim Azmi expressed concern over the encounter and said that if there is an accused, the court has the power to punish him, but the court proceedings are being affected by the encounter bulldozer action. If punishment is given in this way, then what is the need for a court in the country? Azmi said that the future of 22 lakh students in the NET has become dark but the Education Minister did not resign while it is his moral responsibility to resign over his failure but here the issue is that the government is not ready to admit its mistake. When Lal Bahadur Shastri was the Railway Minister, the railway suffered an accident and he accepted moral responsibility and resigned while he was not at fault. Here, such Chief Ministers are elected who have five to four murder cases registered against them. Azmi said that an attempt is being made to spoil the environment by targeting one religion. He said that during Ganpati and Kannur Yatra, the roads are blocked but the government showers flowers on them but if a Muslim offers prayers outside the mosque due to shortage of space, action is taken against him. Why this unilateral action? He said that justice demands that there should be equal justice for all, but today the situation is that the situation in West Bengal has gone from bad to worse. After the BJP came to power in West Bengal, problems have been created from sacrifice to prayers on the streets. On the removal of Abhishek Banerjee’s security, Azmi said that the BJP practices revenge politics in power. It uses agencies including ED, CBI, Income Tax to attack the opposition and they are targeted. The attack on Abhishek Banerjee is wrong and shameful.
