Metro Dairy disinvestment: Adhir Chowdhury to approach SC for CBI probe
Congress’ West Bengal chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday said that he would approach the Supreme Court against the Calcutta High Court order, ruling out a CBI probe into the state government’s disinvestment of its stake in erstwhile joint venture Metro Dairy Ltd.
On June 13, the high court’s division bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj observed that since the state government did not adopt any opaque sale of shares, there was no need for any intervention by the court in the process. It also observed that the disinvestment process was neither arbitrary nor illegal.
Not happy with the ruling, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has now decided to approach the apex court.
Chowdhury’s counsel, P.K. Chattopadhyay said that that the state government in 2017 sold its 47 per cent stake to private entity Keventer Group at a throwaway price of just Rs 85 crore and in the same year, Keventer Group sold 15 percent of this to a Singapore-based entity for Rs 135 crore.
“Without any vested interest the state government would never have divested its stake in Metro Dairy at such a throwaway price. So, we wanted a CBI enquiry in the matter. But since the division bench of the Calcutta High Court did not approve that, we will be moving to the Supreme Court with the same demand,” he said.
Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram had appeared on behalf of Metro Dairy Ltd in the high court, but faced ire of a group of Congress-affiliated advocates when he came for the hearing.

Western Railway Issues Travel Advisory: Several Trains Hit Due To Girder Work Between Palghar & Umroli

Western Railway has announced a significant disruption in train services due to a major engineering block between Palghar and Umroli. The block has been undertaken for girder delaunching work, a crucial part of infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving rail safety and capacity.
The advisory has warned passengers of cancellations, short terminations, and regulated train movements over the affected period.
Among the most impacted are suburban services. The Dahanu Road to Virar slow local has been cancelled, while the Surat to Virar MEMU service will be short terminated at Dahanu Road.
On the down line, both Virar to Dahanu Road slow local and MEMU services have been cancelled, affecting daily commuters who rely heavily on these routes.
Several long distance trains will also experience delays due to regulation. Services such as the Bandra Terminus to Barauni Avadh Express and Borivali to Nandurbar Express are expected to run behind schedule.
Other trains, including the Mumbai Central to Hapa Duronto Express, Mumbai Central to Indore Duronto Express, and Bandra Terminus to Jamnagar Humsafar Express, will see delays ranging from 20 to 55 minutes.
Additional services like the Dadar to Bhusaval Khandesh Express and Bandra Terminus to Haridwar Express will also be regulated, further impacting passengers.
Passengers have been advised to check updated train timings and schedules before starting their journey. Railway authorities have urged travellers to plan accordingly to avoid last minute inconvenience.
The ongoing work, while disruptive in the short term, is expected to strengthen railway infrastructure and improve long term operations on the busy Western Railway corridor.

Raza Academy Mumbai has welcomed the Saudi government’s decision to cancel the controversial concert in Jeddah by world-renowned singer Shakira.

In the current situation, when the Muslims of Palestine, Gaza and Lebanon are suffering from severe oppression and the entire Muslim Ummah is in turmoil and anguish, organizing such a program would certainly hurt the feelings of the Ummah. The Saudi government’s stopping the program in Jeddah is a positive step that is commendable. It should be noted that two days ago, the Raza Academy had issued a press statement against this program.
The officials of the Raza Academy said that the land of the Two Holy Mosques is a center of devotion and respect for Muslims all over the world, therefore it is very important to avoid such measures there that are contrary to religious and moral values.
The statement further said: “We hope that the Saudi government will continue to avoid all such programs that hurt religious sensitivities in any way, taking into account the feelings of the Muslim Ummah, Islamic traditions and the current global situation.”
Finally, the President of the Raza Academy, Alhaji Muhammad Saeed Nouri, expressed his happiness over the decision of the Saudi government.

Mumbai : Fake Baba arrested for fraud, Baba used to fool people by creating a charismatic image under the guise of solving domestic and life problems

A shocking case has come to light from Mumbai where a so-called ‘Baba’ has been exposed for influencing people in the name of superstition and Tantric rituals. Mumbai’s Dandoshi police station has arrested a man named Ridham Panchal (37), who claimed to be a charismatic worker and could solve people’s problems.
It is alleged that the Baba performed strange and terrifying Tantric rituals using cremation ashes, goat liver, lemon, incense sticks and kumkum (sindoor). He used to create a mysterious atmosphere for people. After the puja, he would ask them to tie all the items in a red cloth and keep them at a deserted intersection, which would create both fear and belief among people.
The most shocking thing is that during the puja, the Baba used to claim that a “goddess” would appear. In this alleged state, he would offer solutions to people’s problems, gradually developing a “charismatic image”, and a large number of people started contacting him with their problems. This continued for about six months, but the baba’s activities started disturbing the locals. Suspicious activities at night, strange things, and increasing crowds worried the locals. Finally, the neighbors got the courage and filed a complaint with the police. On receiving the complaint, the Mumbai Police swung into action and started an investigation. Investigation revealed that the baba was exploiting people’s emotions and problems to spread superstition. After his arrest, the accused was produced in the court from where he was remanded in police custody till April 19. The police are now investigating who else is involved in this whole matter and how many people this so-called baba has trapped. This case once again brings to light the spread of superstition in the society and its dangerous effects. Where people rely on false miracles instead of science and law to solve their problems.
