Maharashtra: Gadchiroli Police Destroy Maoist Monuments, Arrest Naxal Supporter During Anti-Maoist Operations

Gadchiroli: Police recently destroyed two Maoist-erected monuments and arrested a Naxal supporter actively involved in violent activities against security forces. Officials said both actions were part of ongoing anti-Maoist operations aimed at eliminating fear from local communities.

On September 30, a police team from Poste Katezari, along with SRPF personnel, was conducting a search operation in the Katezari and Marma forest areas of Mauja Katezari. During the operation, they found two Maoist monuments, erected two to three years ago, intended to spread fear and show Maoist presence in the region.

After inspection by the bomb disposal team, both monuments were demolished and destroyed. Police said that, with the cooperation of local citizens, trees were planted at the site as a symbol of peace.

Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli, Nilotpal, said: “The Gadchiroli police is trying to free citizens from the terror of the Maoists. Such memorials have no place in society, and people are urged not to participate in such illegal constructions.”

In a separate incident on September 29, while security forces were conducting an anti-Maoist operation in the Bhamragad area, they received information about a suspicious person allegedly conducting reconnaissance of security forces.

The man was detained and later identified as Sainu alias Sannu Amlu Mattami (38), a resident of Poyarkothi, Bhamragad. Investigations revealed he was a staunch Naxal supporter involved in violent activities, including an encounter between police and Maoists in the Koparshi-Phulnar jungle area on August 27, 2025.

Mattami was arrested on September 30.

According to officials, since January 2022, Gadchiroli police have arrested a total of 110 Maoists, a result of sustained anti-Maoist operations in the district.

New Delhi, Oct 24: In a major operation, the Delhi Police Special Cell busted an Islamic State (ISIS)-inspired terror module on Friday and nabbed two operatives who were allegedly planning to conduct an IED blast in the national capital.

The two suspected terrorists are understood to have undergone training for a ‘fidayeen (suicide) attack’ and were in advanced stages of conducting a terror strike in a crowded area of the city, reports said.

According to the police, one of the arrested operatives is Delhi-based, while another one hails from Madhya Pradesh. One of them was identified as Adnan.

The arrest was made during a joint and coordinated operation by the intelligence agencies and the Special Cell. The arrests were made in separate operations — one in Delhi’s Sadiq Nagar and the other in Bhopal.

A cache of arms and ammunition was also seized from their custody, police sources said.

A senior officer told a leading daily that the operation was conducted by a team led by Additional Commissioner Pramod Kushwaha and ACP Lalit Mohan Negi.

The busted terror module has been inspired by ISIS and is also believed to have the backing of Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).

Meanwhile, the intelligence and security agencies are further conducting operations to unravel the full extent of their plans and plots to unleash terror. The potential link of the busted module with global terror networks is also under investigation.

Further details are awaited, but the unravelling of a terror module in the city marks a big success for the security forces and relief for the general public.

Jalna: Nationalist Congress Party–Sharad Pawar (NCP-SP) MLA Rohit Pawar strongly criticised the Maharashtra government over the state’s deteriorating law and order situation, following a violent attack on the nephew of well-known Jalna industrialist Narendra Mittal during Diwali.

Sharing CCTV footage of the incident on social media platform X, Pawar wrote that “once known for its strong law and order, Maharashtra now ranks first in corruption and rising crime.” He further blamed the state’s ‘inefficient government and Home Ministry’ for the growing sense of insecurity among citizens.

The shocking incident took place on the night of October 22 in the Sambhajinagar area of Jalna city, near the BJP office. According to reports, Yash Vijay Mittal, nephew of industrialist Narendra Mittal, was attacked by a gang of around 10–15 unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants while returning home with his wife, Sakshi Mittal, after visiting relatives for Diwali.

When Yash’s car reached near his residence, the attackers surrounded the vehicle and launched a violent assault. Neighbours and family members rushed out after hearing cries for help and found Yash lying in a pool of blood, having been struck on the head with an iron rod. The attackers also attempted to target his wife, but fled the scene when locals intervened.

Yash Mittal was initially rushed to Deepak Hospital in Jalna and later transferred to Sai Neuro City Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar due to severe head injuries. Doctors have reported that his condition remains critical and he is currently under intensive care.

Industrialist Narendra Mittal has lodged a formal complaint at the Sadar Bazar Police Station. An FIR was registered under Sections 115, 118, and 352(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempted murder. Special investigation teams have been formed to trace the culprits. The police are examining CCTV footage and technical evidence to determine whether the motive behind the attack was a property dispute, an extortion attempt, old enmity, or an act of intimidation.
