Maharashtra Crime: Man Drowns Girlfriend To Death In Bucket, Dumps Body In Valsad Creek With Wife’s Help; Couple Arrested

Published

on

Palghar: A 43-year-old married man employed in the film industry, identified as Manohar Shukla, allegedly murdered his girlfriend after she refused to withdraw a rape complaint against him. The horrifying episode occurred in Palghar district’s Naigaon.

Manohar Shukla was arrested at his Evershine residence in Vasai on Tuesday. His wife, Poornima, was also taken into custody. The details surrounding the crime are disturbing.

Details On The Crime

In a chilling turn of events, it is alleged that Shukla and his wife Poornima helped conceal the crime. They reportedly placed the victim’s body in a suitcase, embarked on a journey spanning over 150 kilometres on a scooter, and ultimately disposed of the body near a creek in Valsad, Gujarat. To avoid arousing suspicion, they took their two-year-old daughter along with them during this macabre journey.

The incident took place between August 9 and 12, with the victim, a 28-year-old makeup artist, meeting a tragic end. Her lifeless body was found packed near a creek in Valsad, Gujarat.

Investigation Unfolds Crime

Initially, the Valsad police had registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and proceeded to cremate the victim’s body, as no one came forward to claim it. However, the circumstances surrounding her death raised suspicions.

During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the victim had drowned before her body was concealed in the suitcase. Manohar Shukla, a resident of Vasai City, was then arrested in connection with the crime.

Background And Relationship

The victim and the accused, Manohar Shukla, had been neighbours in Vasai in 2013. They got into a relationship a year later, and despite Shukla’s marriage to Poornima in 2018, he continued his relationship with the victim. In early 2019, when Poornima discovered the affair, a confrontation occurred.

The victim’s family had reported her as missing on August 14, prompting a police investigation. An FIR was registered on Monday under Indian Penal Code Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing the disappearance of evidence of the offense) following a complaint by the victim’s sister.

Ongoing Investigation

An abetment to suicide case has also been lodged against Manohar Shukla at another police station within the Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar police limits. The role of Shukla’s wife in the crime is under investigation, and further details are expected to emerge.

India’s Got Latent row: Assam Police to send fresh summons to Ranveer Allahbadia

Published

on

Guwahati, March 7: Assam Police are set to send fresh summons to the YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, who had not appeared before the investigation team against the earlier summons.

A senior police official on Friday said, “A team of CID will travel to Mumbai shortly to Allahbadia’s house, and they will hand over a fresh set of summons for appearing before the investigation team on the probe.”

Allahbadia was supposed to appear before the Assam Police the previous week in the case related to his controversial comments on the stage of the ‘India’s Got Latent’ show that has attracted massive backlash for the podcaster.

A case against Allahbadia was registered in Guwahati, and he was served summons to appear before the Assam Police here. The Guwahati Crime Branch, in the previous week, questioned another YouTuber, Ashish Chanchalani, who has also been embroiled in the controversy for his comments made during an episode of the show.

The interrogation lasted for several hours after the YouTuber arrived at the Crime Branch office. He was questioned about a number of accusations before being let go in the evening. “YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani showed up for interrogation at the Crime Branch. He has complied with our inquiry. We will phone him if necessary, but we are not currently calling him again. Police notices have not yet received a response from other people connected to the investigation. They will receive new summonses shortly,” Guwahati’s Joint Police Commissioner Ankur Jain told reporters here.

On February 21, the Supreme Court asked the Governments of Maharashtra and Assam to respond to the YouTuber’s request to have a formal complaint against the show’s alleged pornographic remarks dismissed or transferred to Mumbai.

When Allahbadia made controversial comments on the show hosted by Samay Raina, Chanchlani was listed in the Assam FIR. Due to his remarks regarding parents and sex in an episode of the show, Ranveer Allahbadia, better known by his stage name BeerBiceps, was the target of multiple formal complaints.

Chanchlani has pleaded for the FIR filed at the Guwahati Crime Branch, Guwahati Police Commissionerate’s Cyber Police Station to be quashed because the Maharashtra FIR was filed first. The YouTuber requested that the Guwahati FIR be transferred to Mumbai.

\While considering Chanchlani’s anticipatory bail motion, the Gauhati High Court granted him temporary relief on February 18 and instructed him to appear in person before the investigating officer within ten days.

The lawyer for Chanchlani contended that their client made no statements on the show and that the FIR’s accusations were limited to the co-accused. In accordance with certain provisions of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhtia, Information Technology Act, Cinematograph Act, and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, the Guwahati Police filed a formal complaint on February 10.
