Gynaecologist commits suicide on being charged with murder in Rajasthan
A private hospital gynaecologist committed suicide in Dausa after an FIR was filed against her under section 302 of the IPC (Murder).
The incident took place on Tuesday, a day after the FIR was lodged against 42-year-old Dr Archana Sharma.
As per the information, a 22-year old woman was brought to her hospital in labour pain on Sunday night. The patient’s condition worsened reportedly due to excessive bleeding after which she died. Alleging negligence, the relatives of the deceased raised a demand for section 302 against the doctor on Tuesday and she was booked.
Meanwhile, her suicide note, which is going viral on social media, says that the patient had died during the normal procedure and that her family should not be tormented post her death. “I love my kids a lot and have not killed any one. Don’t harass innocent doctors,” she said in the note adding, “Please don’t let my kids feel the void of a mother. This act of mine shall perhaps prove my innocence,” she added.
Doctors of the state are shocked with her suicide and have announced a strike in all private hospitals in Jaipur and Dausa.
The Rajasthan Medical College Teachers Association and Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors have demanded action against the guilty in alleged abatement of suicide.
Dr Sharma was a gold medallist and worked as an associate professor in government medical college, Gandhinagar before joining her husband in establishing a hospital in Dausa.
Meanwhile, the Private Hospital and Nursing Homes Society has demanded the suspension and arrest of guilty police officials with immediate effect.
Deputy leader of opposition in the state Assembly Rajendra Rathore has termed the incident “unfortunate”.
“In Lalsot, Dausa, which is the home town of state health minister, the filing of a case against the doctor under section 302 on the death of a pregnant woman, and forcing her to commit suicide is a stigma on the administration. I strongly condemn the extreme negligence of police who under pressure from local Congress leaders registered an FIR against the doctor without conducting a fair investigation. There is a strong resentment among the doctors against the administration. The state government should sack the guilty police officers who forced the doctor to take the extreme step,” he said.

‘For Us Dog, Donkey And You Are Same…’: Punjab Police DSP’s Warning To ‘Goldy Brar’ In Viral Audio Clip
Chandigarh: A purported conversation between gangster Goldy Brar and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Punjab’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Bikram Singh Brar, went viral on social media. In the audio clip, the gangster is threatening the police officer for “deploying” informers in his group. He asked the DSP to pull back all the informers from his gang.
However, the DSP gave the gangster a befitting reply and warned him to mend his ways. Notably, Goldy Brar is a key member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The DSP is a decorated police officer with five gallantry awards. He is a known encounter specialist.
In the nine-minute audio clip, the police officer refuted the gangster’s allegation of deploying informers in his group. DSP Brar said that everybody is equal before the law and we will not spare anyone involved in illegal activities. “For us you or any gangster, dog or donkey are same,” the DSP said.
Goldy Brar, the son of a former Punjab police assistant sub-inspector, is believed to be in Canada. He is allegedly involved in the murder of famous Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022. Satinderjit Singh aka Goldy Brar was designated as a terrorist by the Union Home Minister on January 1, 2024. Apart from Moosewala’s murder, Goldy Brar is also facing many criminal charges in India.
A senior Punjab Police officer told The Times of India that the gangster called DSP Brar a few days ago. As per the police official, the audio clip was not released by the police, but it was made viral by the gangster. DSP Brara has not yet commented on the development.

Year Ender: Bengal’s shocker RG Kar case in 2024 saw massive protests amid shoddy probe claims
Kolkata, Dec 31: 2024 was an eventful year for West Bengal for several reasons, but the incident that rocked the state and the country was the ghastly rape and murder of a woman doctor of state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata within the premises in August.
The following sequence of events made the entire investigation process a mere farcical exercise.
The scripted plot started on the morning of August 9 soon after the body of the victim was recovered from the seminar hall within the R.G. Kar premises. As per the victim’s parents, on the same morning, they received subsequent calls from a woman claiming to be an Assistant Superintendent of the hospital making contradictory statements each time.
“First she said that my daughter had become seriously ill. Next, she claimed that my daughter had committed suicide,” claimed the victim’s father to the media persons after the tragedy.
An audio clip of the purported conversation also became viral in the social media then which authenticated the allegations of the victim’s parents.
Kolkata Police started the initial investigation and soon took the prime accused in the case and civic volunteer Sanjay Roy in custody. However, several lapses in the process of initial investigation by the city police started surfacing then. Some of them were lackadaisical in cordoning off the entire crime scene allowing several unwanted individuals crowding there and lapses in the post-mortem process that raised suspicions about the tampering with evidence in the matter.
Following these developments, the civil society flared up in anguish which was followed by a series of protests by people throughout the state. The protests were led by representatives from the medical fraternity in the state.
Slowly, the protest fever gripped other states in the country and subsequently similar protest demonstrations by non-resident Indians settled in different countries abroad also started surfacing.
The ongoing protest demonstrations took a dramatic turn at midnight of August 14 when almost the entire state was on the streets condemning the macabre tragedy as well as demanding the safety of women at the workplace.
A group of miscreants suddenly barged in within the R.G. Kar premises and ransacked portions of the emergency department of the hospital. Later information surfaced that their main target was the floor of the purported “scene of crime” that is the seminar hall where the body of the victim was recovered, clearly hinting that the attack was orchestrated to destroy the evidence. The development also diverted the media attention on that night from the protest or demonstration to the event of ransacking.
This development flared up public protests which were aggravated further by the decision of the junior doctors to go on fast-unto-death protest demanding justice for the victims.
In the meantime, there were two subsequent developments on the legal front. First, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took charge of the investigation from the city police following an order by a division bench of Calcutta High Court. Secondly, the Supreme Court headed by the then Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud took up the matter for hearing on a suo motu basis.
The initial days of the CBI probe in the matter were highly exciting with information about tampering of evidence during the phase of initial investigation by the city police surfacing one after another.
The excitement reached its peak when CBI arrested the former and controversial principal of R.G. Kar Sandip Ghosh and the former SHO of Tala Police Station Abhijit Mondal on charges of misleading the investigation and tampering with evidence.
All these were going on while the protests were gaining momentum with a group of junior doctors participating in the hunger strike started falling sick one after another. Even the West Bengal government, at that point in time, seemed a bit helpless in the midst of all-around pressure and made desperate attempts to sit at the discussion table with the junior doctors to end the impasse.
However, the series of heartbreaks started soon first with the first charge sheet of CBI identifying the civic volunteer Sanjay Roy as the “sole prime accused” in the crime of rape and murder.
At the same time following a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the junior doctors withdrew from the hunger strike which to a large extent dampened the general protest mood involving civil society and common people.
The final blow came on December 13, when a special court in Kolkata granted “default bail” to Ghosh and Mondal in the rape and murder as CBI failed to submit a supplementary charge sheet against the duo within 90 days from the date of their arrests.
Following this development, there was an air of frustration and suspicion about the sincerity with which the central investigating agency also was conducting the probe. Suspicions surfaced further following a report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) that contradicted several points that surfaced during the course of the investigation.
The first contradiction was about the “scene of crime”. While both Kolkata Police and CBI conducted the investigation considering the seminar hall from where the body of the victim was discovered as the scene of the crime, the CFSL report clearly stated there was no evidence of scuffle at the seminar room thus creating doubts on whether that place was actually the scene of crime or not.
Secondly, the CFSL report, while not ruling out the possibility of murder and crime being conducted by one accused, advocated for further research based on different past scientific reports by experts in similar cases can lead to the final conclusion on whether more than one person was involved in the crime.
At the same time, the CFSL report clearly stated that the confidentiality factor of the post-mortem process of the body of the victim was compromised and standard protocols were not followed during that process.
The seventh point mentioned in the CSFL report is, “Observation of the videography of the PM examination revealed that several people were present inside the post-mortem hall and some of them were taking photographs and making videos on their personal mobile phones, which is against the standard and accepted protocol and practice to maintain confidentiality of the case and dignity of the deceased,” the report said.

Maharashtra Sarpanch murder: Prime suspect Walmik Karad surrenders
Pune (Maharashtra), Dec 31: After posting a video statement, absconder Walmik Karad — a prime suspect in the sensational broad daylight murder of Massajog (Beed) Sarpanch Santosh Pandit Deshmukh on December 9 — surrendered to the CID, Pune, here on Tuesday morning.
Karad – on the run for the past 22 days — claimed innocence in an extortion case he had been booked for. He gave himself up after a series of measures by the state police to zero in on him.
In his statement, he contended that he was implicated in a false case of extortion on December 12 — which is now being linked with the Beed Sarpanch murder case, though his name doesn’t figure in this (murder) — said that he was prepared to cooperate with the investigators and also ready for any punishment.
A former domestic helper at the home of Maharashtra’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Cabinet Minister Dhananjay P. Munde, Karad was later elected as a municipal councillor, but abruptly ‘disappeared’ as politics went on a massive boil.
Subsequently, deploying tech intel, the police tracked his movements to Pune and Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) and initiated the process to seize his properties, freeze bank accounts, other assets, etc.
Post-surrender, Karad is undergoing a questioning session with top police and CID officials, after which he is likely to be arrested and produced before a designated court for remand, an official indicated.
The deceased Sarpanch’s daughter Vaibhavi S. Deshmukh expressed satisfaction over Karad’s surrender, but demanded that even the other absconding culprits must be arrested and punished “to ensure justice to my father”.
“The police must scan the CDR of his (Karad) mobile, and find out all those who had helped him in any manner, arrest and give them the most stringent punishment under the law,” she demanded, her eyes moist with tears.
Nationalist Congress Party (SP) General Secretary Dr Jitendra Awhad alleged that “everything is planned and orchestrated” and Karad is reportedly named as an ‘accused’ in a murder case lodged with Parli (Beed) Police.
Leaders of multiple political parties have said that Karad is booked/wanted/accused in several big and small cases but has continued to thrive owing to political patronage.
Shivba Sanghatana chief Manoj Jarange-Patil said that now Karad is in the police clutches, the investigators should arrest the other fugitives and reiterated that “Karad was supported by his political masters”, warning against any attempts to ‘protect him’.
The Sarpanch murder snowballed into a national political storm with condemnation from Union Minister of State for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale, Congress’ Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party (SP) President Sharad Pawar, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) President Prakash Ambedkar and other bigwigs.
The issue had also figured in the state legislature during the recent Winter Session in Nagpur, at least three all-party protest marches were taken out in Beed, Latur and Parbhani in support of the Deshmukh family.
In a move of solidarity, 543 Gram Panchayats in Gondia, 491 in Washim and 205 in Yavatmal districts are observing a 3-day shutdown to condemn the Massajog (Beed) Sarpanch’s murder, and over the next few days, more Gram Panchayats are expected to follow suit.
