Gul Panag: Bringing ‘myself’ to my on-screen character is interesting

In recent times, actress Gul Panag has played some characters on screen that are completely different from who she is in real life.

The actress says through her performances, she always tries to bring a part of her own self to her on screen characters as well, because blurring the line is fun.

In the upcoming web film ‘420 IPC’, Gul plays the character of a housewife whose husband becomes a victim of a scam.

This is not the first time the actress is playing a housewife. Earlier she was seen playing a housewife ‘Renu Chaudhary’ from a village in the web series ‘Pataal Lok’.

Being a former beauty queen, who is also a biker, a pilot, a politician and a fitness enthusiast, at the beginning of her career Gul used to get characters of urban cool girls in most of her films.

Asked if she changed her strategy or casting directors have started looking at her differently to offer a variety of roles in recent times, Gul opened up in conversation with IANS.

She said: “I think each character has two parts, one that is visualised by the writer and director; another in which the actors infuse something from themselves, in their own interpretation and perform that. When it comes to playing a housewife, I believe every character has its own strength and how you bring that strength out on-screen through your performance, depends on you as an actor. It is the craft of an actor to add the layer to a character, otherwise, the character becomes so flat. For me, bringing a part of me into the character is how I make it interesting.”

In ‘420 IPC’, which also features Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey, Gul plays the character of Puja Kiswani, a Chartered Accountant.

Sharing more insight, Gul said, “On the surface, she is a simple housewife but she is not what she projects herself to the outer world and there comes the plot twist. It is a thriller so I cannot reveal the twist but when her husband becomes the victim of a scam, she goes to any extent to save her husband. When she shows who she really is, it changes the whole narrative. So it is quite interesting as a character.”

252-Crore Drugs Case: Social Media Influencer Orry Appears Before Mumbai Crime Branch’s ANC Ghatkopar Unit

Mumbai: In a major development in the ₹252-crore drug trafficking case, social media influencer Orry appeared before the Ghatkopar Unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch today for questioning.

The ANC had issued a second summons to Orry, directing him to join the investigation. Earlier, he was summoned on November 20, but he informed the agency that he would not be available until November 25. Following this, a second summons was issued, requiring him to appear on November 26.

The ANC is expected to record Orry’s statement as part of the ongoing probe into the high-profile drugs syndicate.

Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.

Taking to her Instagram stories, Kareena showered Armaan with love and good wishes, making the family moment a highlight for fans. She even shared a monochrome picture posing next to Armaan and his wife Anissa Malhotra.

Kareena and Armaan are making headlines for the Netflix special “Dining with the Kapoors.”

The hour-long special brings together cousins, siblings, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and in-laws for a lively and candid celebration of family bonds. Directed by Smriti Mundhra and created by Armaan, “Dining with the Kapoors” offers a glimpse into the family’s cherished traditions.

One moment from the special showed Kareena Kapoor calling the family “funny, loving, and united,” while also highlighting their shared love for food. It was revealed that Armaan had organized the luncheon to commemorate what would have been Raj Kapoor’s 100th birth anniversary.

SS Rajamouli Faces FIR For ‘Hurting’ Religious Sentiments Over Controversial Lord Hanuman Remark At Varanasi Event In Hyderabad

Filmmaker SS Rajamouli has landed in trouble after his recent remarks on Lord Hanuman during the launch event of his upcoming film Varanasi in Hyderabad on Saturday (November 15) sparked a major controversy. Soon after the launch, an FIR was registered against the acclaimed director for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

On Tuesday, November 18, the Saroornagar police in Hyderabad received a complaint from the Vanara Sena organisation, alleging that Rajamouli had hurt Hindu sentiments by saying, “I don’t believe in God Hanuman.”

The police added how they are currently investigating the matter.

As of now, SS Rajamouli has not reacted to the controversy.

At the event that was held at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, technical glitches prevented the teaser from being played. An emotional Rajamouli apologised to the 50,000-strong crowd, saying he felt as though he had been let down by Lord Hanuman.

“When my father talked about Hanuman and suggested relying on his blessings for success, I got so angry,” he said. The filmmaker also clarified that he does not believe in God.

He also mentioned that his wife, Rama, was a great devotee of Hanuman. “My wife has a great devotion to Lord Hanuman. She talks to Him like He’s her friend. I even got angry with her for a while. Let’s see,” said the director.

Soon after Rajamouli’s statement went viral on social media, netizens slammed him, with many expressing surprise, noting that his blockbuster films, including Baahubali and RRR, draw heavily from Hindu epics and mythology.

Varanasi stars Priyanka Chopra, Mahesh Babu, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, and is slated for release in 2027.
