Jammu, March 28: The number of terrorists killed in an anti-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district has risen to five after two more bodies were recovered on Friday in the forest area where they had been hiding.

Official sources said that five terrorists had been killed. At the same time, three jawans of the special operations group (SOG) of J&K Police died in the operation in Ghati Heights of Sufiyan Jakhole village of Kathua district.

Seven security personnel, including Deputy SP border, Dheeraj Katoch and a para commando of the Army, were injured in this operation.

The injured have been shifted to a hospital in Jammu city, while the Dy SP is being treated at the government medical college (GMC) hospital in Kathua.

Paying tribute to the martyred policemen, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha said, “I bow to the valorous martyrs of J&K Police, who laid down their lives for our motherland. My deepest condolences to their families. In the ongoing Kathua encounter, several terrorists were neutralised. J&K Police & Security Forces are on the job. Operation in progress.”

The operation against the terrorists was resumed this morning with the first light. Given the number of terrorists seen at Sanyal village on Sunday and the fact that five terrorists were killed now in Ghati Heights of Safiyan Jakhole village, it is confirmed that this is the same group which had escaped from Sanyal village and was trying to cross over to Billawar in Kathua district through Ghati Heights.

Official sources said that civilians observed the movement of terrorists at the village Safiyan Jakhole Ghati heights at 7 a.m. Thursday and sounded police.

“Teams of local police and the SOG headed by SDPO Border, Dheeraj Katoch rushed to the spot and engaged terrorists in the gunbattle, who were well equipped with sophisticated weapons like M4 Carbines. Later, Army personnel, including para commandos, were air dropped, and reinforcements of police and paramilitary personnel reached the spot to join the operation,” said the officials.

“Three SOG personnel who were part of the first team to reach the spot were martyred in the operation while the DySP Border was injured. One para commando and six policemen, including the Dy SP, sustained injuries. Three terrorists were neutralized till last evening. Their bodies are lying on a hill and will be brought down once the operation is over,” the officials said earlier.

“The body of one of the terrorists has been burnt. All of them are believed to be Pakistanis,” the officials added.

The police martyrs have been identified as Tariq Ahmad, son of Kabir Hussain of Reasi, Jaswant Singh, son of Angrez Singh of Londi, Hiranagar and Balwinder Singh, son of Prem Singh of Kana Chak, Kathua, all selection grade constables of J&K Police.

“Terrorists are believed to be part of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit. They appeared to be well-trained. The gunfight triggered intense firing and explosions, with the Army using rocket launchers to eliminate the terrorists, who fired heavily with M4 Carbines and other sophisticated weapons and also used grenades. Local youth were seen assisting the security forces in carrying heavy weapons and ammunition deep inside a gorge,” said the officials.

Senior police officers are camping at the spot, supervising the operation.

“Special Army para commandos were airdropped in the evening yesterday to further strengthen the cordon around the area. The bodies of terrorists were noticed by drones and would be retrieved when the operation ends,” official sources said.

Mumbai Crime: Vikhroli Man Cheated Of ₹2.2 Crore In Housing Fraud, Accused Used Documents To Take Bank Loan

Published

on

Mumbai: The Vikhroli police have registered a case of alleged fraud worth Rs2.2 crore against Rajendra Babulal Kumar for allegedly cheating a man under the pretext of purchasing his house and using the property documents to secure a bank loan.

According to the c, the complainant, Mohammed Nasim Rais Hashmi, 49, resides with his family at Ashoka Tower in Firozshah Nagar, Vikhroli East. Hashmi runs a business manufacturing wooden boxes for gold jewellery. Due to financial difficulties, he had put his house up for sale.

In August 2025, Hashmi came in contact with Rajendra Babulal Kumar, 41, who is involved in the auto parts export business and resides at Unwala Building on D.N. Singh Road in Mazgaon. Kumar allegedly expressed interest in buying the house but claimed he did not have the money immediately. He proposed that if the property was transferred to his name, he would secure a loan of Rs2.20 crore against it and pay the full amount to Hashmi as the purchase price.

Trusting Kumar, Hashmi appeared at the registration office in Vikhroli East on September 26, 2025, and executed a sale deed in Kumar’s name after obtaining a power of attorney from his mother, Jamila Begum Shaikh, who was the property owner. Later, a deed of rectification was also registered on November 21 at the same office.

Police said that although Kumar had allegedly paid only Rs13 lakh to Hashmi, the sale deed mentioned that Rs2.2 crore had been received. The amount was shown in the document at Kumar’s request so that he could secure a loan, with the assurance that the loan proceeds would be handed over to Hashmi.

As part of the alleged transaction cycle, Kumar transferred Rs2,16,75,000 to Hashmi’s Axis Bank account via RTGS between September 26 and November 13, 2025, and also gave Rs25,000 in cash. Hashmi then transferred Rs1.07 lakh to the bank account of Kumar’s associate, Shyamrao Shankarrao Shinde, and Rs97,25,000 to the account of another associate, Sachin Shrikant Hejib, between October 17 and November 13.

Investigators said that Shinde, Hejib and another person, Narayan Bindeshwar Jha, allegedly transferred the funds back to Kumar’s bank account, completing what police suspect was a circular transaction designed to show a legitimate payment trail.

Using the sale deed, Kumar later mortgaged the property with Cholamandalam Finance in CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai, and secured a loan of Rs1.97 crore on November 20, 2025. The loan was allegedly taken in the names of Kumar and his wife, Chetana Devi.

However, Hashmi alleged that Kumar never paid him the agreed sale amount. Instead, after obtaining the loan, Kumar allegedly began threatening and abusing him, demanding that he vacate the house and hand over possession, claiming ownership of the property.

Hashmi has also alleged that Kumar’s associates Shyamrao Shinde, Sachin Hejib, Narayan Jha, and Kumar’s wife Chetana Devi were aware of the alleged fraud and assisted him. He has requested the police to investigate their roles as well.

Based on the complaint, the Vikhroli police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have initiated further investigation.

Navi Mumbai: A 20-year-old woman attempted suicide by jumping into Vashi Creek from a moving local train on Tuesday morning but survived after fishermen in the area quickly rescued her.

The incident took place around 8.30 am when the woman, a resident of Chembur, was travelling on a local train on the Mumbai Harbour Line. As the train was crossing the Vashi Creek bridge, she reportedly jumped into the water through the open train door.

The woman had a backpack hanging from her shoulder when she jumped. Air became trapped inside the bag, which helped her remain afloat in the water instead of sinking immediately.

The fall was noticed by fishermen from Vashi village who were present in the creek at the time. Realising that someone had fallen into the water, they quickly moved their boat towards the spot.

Mahesh Sutar, one of the fishermen in the group, along with his colleagues, reached the woman and managed to pull her out of the water. Their swift action helped prevent what could have turned into a tragic incident.

The rescued woman was brought safely to shore. Her condition is currently reported to be stable. The quick response and presence of mind shown by the fishermen played a crucial role in saving her life.

The incident has drawn attention to the role of local fishermen who often become first responders in emergencies that occur near the creek.

Officials from Vashi Police Station have taken note of the case and have started an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are also ensuring that the woman receives medical care and counselling following the traumatic episode.

During preliminary questioning, the woman reportedly told police that she had been under severe emotional stress after her boyfriend blocked her on the phone and on social media without explanation. Investigators are now trying to understand the full sequence of events that led to the incident.

Police said further inquiry is underway and they are speaking to the woman and other individuals to gather more details about the matter.
