CBI records statement of Mumbai CP Sanjay Pandey in Maharashtra corruption case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recorded the statement of Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey, on an audio conversation submitted by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh to the probe agency and the Supreme Court.
In the audio clip, Pandey, who used to be then DGP Maharashtra, had allegedly tried to influence Singh to withdraw the complaint against Anil Deshmukh, the former Maharashtra Home Minister.
Singh had accused Deshmukh of misusing his post and that it was Deshmukh who asked him to collect Rs 100 crore every month from dance bars and restaurants in Mumbai. He made these allegations when he was removed from police commissioner’s post after Antilia case. Deshmukh has denied all the allegations levelled against him.
On April 21, 2021 the CBI had filed an FIR against Deshmukh and had initiated a probe.
The CBI also scanned his financial transactions of the last three years. The CBI also gathered information about the business dealings of Deshmukh. The CBI has prepared a list of the business associates of Deshmukh. The transactions made between them was reportedly scanned.
On November 1, 2021 Deshmukh was placed under arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a PMLA case pertaining to the alleged posting and transfer of officials.

Mumbai: Woman Accused In 2013 PITA Case Arrested After 12 Years On The Run

Mumbai: The DB Marg Police have arrested Channa Begum Shaikh alias Roja (38), a woman accused in a 2013 case registered under Sections 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA). Roja had been absconding for the past 12 years.
The Sessions Court had recently issued a standing non-bailable warrant against Roja, directing the DB Marg Police to trace and arrest her. Acting on confidential information, the police learned she was working at a cosmetic shop in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh.
A team led by PSI Azeem Shaikh conducted technical surveillance, traced her mobile number, analyzed CDR records, and identified her frequent contacts. Based on the findings, the DB Marg Police, with local police assistance, tracked and apprehended Roja from her workplace.
During questioning, Roja admitted to evading court appearances since 2013. Following Supreme Court guidelines, she was formally arrested and produced before the Kadapa court, which granted a five-day transit remand. She will be presented before the Sessions Court in Mumbai on October 11 for further remand proceedings.
The operation was carried out by the Wanted Fugitive Tracking Unit under the Girgum Division of Zone 2, Mumbai Police. Authorities commended the team’s persistence in capturing a fugitive who evaded law for over a decade.

Mumbai Crime : 48-Year-Old Man Beaten To Death By Two Brothers After Neighbourhood Dispute In Worli

Mumbai: A shocking incident has come to light from Worli, where a 48-year-old man was beaten to death by two brothers following a minor dispute between neighbours. The deceased has been identified as Hussain Mohammad Umar Shaikh, while the accused have been named as Yogesh Dheever (43) and Sameer Dheever (40).
According to the Worli Police, the incident occurred on the evening of October 10. Earlier that morning, Hussain had allegedly assaulted Yogesh’s daughter, which enraged the brothers. Later that evening, in a fit of anger, they confronted Hussain and attacked him.
Hussain lived in BDD Chawl No. 15 in Worli and worked as a mixer-grinder repairman. The accused, Yogesh, is employed as a ward boy at a reputed hospital, while his brother Sameer resides nearby in Chawl No. 14.
The argument between the two sides quickly escalated into a violent altercation. Both brothers severely assaulted Hussain, causing him to collapse and lose consciousness. His brother, Hasan Shaikh, along with neighbours, rushed him to Nair Hospital, where doctors declared him dead before admission.
Based on a complaint filed by Hasan Shaikh, the Worli Police registered an FIR under sections 103(1), 115(2), 117(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police arrested both accused — Yogesh and Sameer Dheever and produced them before the court, which remanded them to police custody till October 14.
A senior police officer from Worli Police Station stated that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute. Preliminary investigations suggest that the assault was triggered by sudden provocation, and further investigation is underway.

Mumbai: Crime Branch Busts 5 Fake Call Centers, 31 Arrested In Cyber Fraud Crackdown

In a major crackdown on cyber fraud, the Mumbai Crime Branch has uncovered five fake call centers operating across the city over the past nine months. A total of 31 accused have been arrested for duping Indian and foreign nationals through various fraudulent schemes.
The first case was uncovered on February 1, when Crime Branch Unit 10 raided a setup in Powai and arrested six individuals. They were allegedly selling erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra and Cialis to U.S. citizens without prescriptions or proper licenses. Several digital devices, including computers, hard drives, and mobile phones, were seized.
On February 22, Unit 12 busted another fake call center operating out of Arpan Apartment, Vazira Naka, Borivali West. Four people were arrested for posing as Microsoft officials, sending fake pop-ups to U.S. citizens, gaining remote access to computers, and stealing bank details.
On April 4, Unit 10 exposed a fraudulent Amazon call center in Sahar, which tricked Canadian citizens with messages claiming unauthorized iPhone purchases. Five people were arrested, though the mastermind remains absconding.
On August 4, Goregaon Police, with a special unit, unearthed a bogus forex trading operation via UnityFXLive.com, duping Indian investors with promises of high returns. Two arrests were made; the main conspirator is still at large.
Cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting victims through fake call centers. A senior Mumbai Police official stated that surveillance has been intensified and efforts continue to trace the masterminds behind these networks.
