Senior Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan on Thursday alleged that the Uttar Pradesh police “wreaked havoc” on the eve of the Lok Sabha bypolls in Azamgarh and Rampur parliamentary seats.

He said that the police “misbehaved” with the SP Lok Sabha candidate.

“If there is a drop in polling percentage, then, the police is to be blamed. I have been up all night. We went to various police stations and the inspector behaved very badly,” he said.

Continuing further, he said, “The cops wreaked havoc overnight. Jeeps and sirens were everywhere in Rampur, they took people to the police stations and beat them up and I have heard of some money transfers as well. It is shameful.”

Azam Khan said: “I am a criminal, I accept… so my city has also been presumed to be the same. They can do whatever they want, we have to endure. If I want to stay, I have to endure.”

Azam Khan was released from jail last month after spending almost 27 months in connection with 89 cases filed against him.

Polling is underway in Azamgarh and Rampur.

Mumbai: The sessions court on Monday rejected the anticipatory bail of a man, his wife and son, booked by the Andheri police station on the complaint of their landlord for allegedly misusing power of attorney, transferring three rooms to their names and cheating the landlord to the tune of `63.60 lakh.

As per the case registered by the 75-year-old landlord of Sitabai Hawaldar Chawl, he had inducted Devendra Singh as a tenant in 2016.

The landlord claimed that over a period of time, Singh gained his trust and induced him to execute a General Power of Attorney on March 28, 2024. The landlord alleged that Singh began to misuse the document, taking control of the chawl and collecting rents from other occupants.

The three claimed that the complainant was in a sound state of mind when he executed the General Power of Attorney. The court, however, said, “prima-facie there is no convincing document on record to show that the informant has inducted applicants as a tenant of room voluntarily with free will.”

Mumbai: The Andheri police have booked an individual for allegedly driving a car into a police personnel and damaging a breath analysis machine. The incident occurred in Andheri East on Sunday. After registering a case, the police issued a notice to the accused.

According to the police, on Sunday night, Sahar traffic police personnel were deployed at Satamwadi Junction on the Andheri–Ghatkopar Link Road in Andheri East. At around 1:15 am, a car approached the junction at high speed. Constable Pritam Omase, 37, attempted to stop the vehicle.

However, the driver slowed down briefly and then tried to flee. When the police attempted to intercept the car, the driver allegedly drove the vehicle into the constable, causing injury to his right leg. The breath analysing machine fell from the constable’s hand due to the impact and was damaged.

The police eventually managed to stop the vehicle. The driver identified himself as Virender Singh, 41, a resident of Sahar village, who works with a private company.

Police personnel detected the smell of alcohol while he was speaking. Subsequently, a breath analysis test was conducted, which revealed an alcohol level of 134.9 mg per 100 ml of blood.

Mumbai: Sanjay Nirupam backed the bulldozer action in Mumbai’s Dindoshi after a clash in Santosh Nagar. Tensions arose in Mumbai’s Dindoshi after a clash between two groups in the Santosh Nagar area triggered a civic demolition drive.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Nirupam said, “Bulldozer action against the jihadists of Dindoshi!” He alleged that large-scale illegal construction had taken place in Shivaji Nagar under the protection of a Sena (UBT) MLA, and supported strict enforcement measures. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out demolition at the residence of one of the accused following the clash.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 12) Mahesh Chimte confirmed that 10 accused were arrested so far, adding that, “The police and administration are taking legal steps.”

AIMIM leader Waris Pathan criticised the demolition drive, calling it unconstitutional. Pathan said that the Supreme Court had laid down guidelines that bulldozers cannot be used at anyone’s place, adding that “The law must be followed”

He further urged police and administration to act impartially and appealed for calm, stating that strict action should be taken against those involved in the violence. Moreover, Pathan also called on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to intervene, adding that no one wants further riots.

“This country will not be run by bulldozer politics, the country will be run by the Constitution…I also appeal to the people to exercise restraint…I request the police and administration to take impartial action…We want Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to intervene in this…We do not want riots…Strict action should be taken against those involved in that violence,”

Meanwhile, Dindoshi Police appealed for calm and urged citizens not to gather in the Santosh Nagar market area of Malad East after a violent clash between two groups left one person seriously injured, triggering tension in the locality.

The incident occurred late Sunday night under the jurisdiction of Dindoshi Police Station, where an argument between two groups reportedly escalated into a scuffle and turned violent. One person sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
