Amarinder announces party’s alliance with BJP
Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) chief Amarinder Singh on Friday announced his party’s alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the 2022 Assembly polls in Punjab.
“Met union minister & @BJP4India incharge for Punjab, Shri @gssjodhpur in New Delhi today to chalk out future course of action ahead of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections. We have formally announced a seat adjustment with the BJP for the 2022 Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections,” the former Congress leader and two-time Punjab Chief Minister said in a tweet, after meeting Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who is also the state BJP in-charge.
After meeting Shekhawat, Singh said: “Our alliance is confirmed. Only seat-sharing talks are going on. We will see who will contest which seats and winnability is sole criteria for deciding seats.
“We will support the BJP wherever it will contest… and it will support us on the seats we will be contesting. We are prepared and will win the election… 101 per cent sure of winning the election. We are not in contest with anyone,” the former Punjab chief minister said.
“After seven rounds of talks, today I confirm that BJP and PLC are going to fight the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections together. Seats-sharing and other things will be decided later,” Shekhawat said after meeting.
Later, the former Punjab chief minister tweeted photos with Shekhawat, and said: “Met union minister & @BJP4India incharge for Punjab, Shri @gssjodhpur in New Delhi today to chalk out future course of action ahead of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections. We have formally announced a seat adjustment with the BJP for the 2022 Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections.”
Shekhawat also tweeted a picture of the meeting with Singh. He said, “Captain Amarinder Singh, former Chief Minister of Punjab and founder of Punjab Lok Congress, today visited Delhi residence. His long political experience is reflected in discussions. His priority is interest of the people of Punjab. We had a pleasant exchange of views in this regard.”
In another tweet, Shekhawat said: “I have a special respect for Captain saab. The top leadership of BJP has already indicated that we are going to fight elections together.”
The election in Punjab is expected to be held in February-March next year along with the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa.
Earlier, after its alliance broke up with its oldest alliance partner, the BJP has announced to contest all the 117 assembly seats in Punjab.
In 2017, the BJP had won three seats out of the 23 it contested. A senior BJP leader said that alliance with the former chief minister’s party will definitely help the party.
“Singh is a big name and has an impact on state politics. An alliance with him (Singh) will surely benefit the BJP in upcoming assembly polls,” a BJP leader said.

ECI intimates Trinamool of accepting request to meet party delegation

Kolkata, Nov 25: The Election Commission of India (ECI) had forwarded a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress Chairperson, Mamata Banerjee, giving nod for a meeting with a party delegation to discuss various issues, including the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by the commission in the state.
The letter from ECI’s Secretary Ashwani Kumar Mohal was addressed to Banerjee as the party chief and was dispatched to her official residence at Harish Chatterjee Street in south Kolkata.
In the letter, the commission has fixed 11 a.m. on November 28 as the time and date of the meeting with the Trinamool delegation. The letter from the commission was a reply to an earlier letter from the leader of Trinamool’s Parliamentary Party in the Rajya Sabha, Derek O’Brien, requesting a meeting of the party delegation with the top ECI officials.
In the letter, the ECI Secretary had categorically stated that the commission always welcomes regular interaction with the political parties for a constructive dialogue.
“Accordingly, the Commission has considered the party’s request and decided to give an appointment to the delegation of All India Trinamool Congress, comprising of the Authorised Representative of the Party along with four other members of the party, for a meeting at 11:00 AM on 28.11.2025 (Friday) at Nirvachan Sadan, Ashoka Road, New Delhi,” the letter read.
Incidentally, on Monday, the Chief Minister wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar objecting to two recent proposals from the ECI– one concerning the separate appointment of data-entry operators for the ongoing SIR in the state, and the other relating to the choice of polling stations for the Assembly elections scheduled next year.
BJP’s Information Technology Cell chief and the party’s central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya reacted to the letter from the Chief Minister to CEC claiming that ECI’s proposal for hiring data entry operators and software developers for a period of one year amid the ongoing SIR in West Bengal was not exclusive to the state but is being followed in all states and Union Territories where a similar revision exercise is currently underway

Two Karnataka cops among four arrested in gold robbery case

Davanagere (Karnataka), Nov 25: In a development raising serious concerns, two Karnataka Police Sub-Inspectors are among the four persons arrested in connection with a gold robbery case in the state’s Davanagere district on Tuesday.
The incident was reported from the KTJ Nagar police station limits in Davanagere city.
The arrested police officers have been identified as Malappa Chippalakatti and Praveen Kumar, both of whom were serving at the IGP’s office. The other two accused, Sathish Revanakar and Nagaraj Revanakar, worked as assistants at a gold shop in Davanagere city.
The arrests were made based on a complaint filed by Vishwanath Arkasali, a gold businessman from Karwar.
According to police, Vishwanath, who buys gold from merchants in Davanagere and makes jewellery for them, had arrived at the Davanagere bus stop carrying 80 grams of gold. He had purchased gold and rings on Monday and was travelling from the Davangere bus stand to Hubballi around midnight, and was later scheduled to proceed to Karwar as part of his business routine.
However, after receiving information from the other accused, the sub-inspectors, allegedly posing as members of the IG Squad, reportedly showed their police identity cards, grabbed him by the collar, pulled him down, threatened him with a fake gun, and took him away in a car. They drove near the KTJ Nagar police station but did not go inside. Instead, they snatched the gold from the victim, dropped him near the Davanagere bus stop and fled.
Following the complaint, KTJ Nagar police took the matter seriously as policemen were involved in the crime. They investigated the case, identified the accused and arrested them. All four have been sent to judicial custody, and police have seized the car used in the offence. Further investigation is underway.
Earlier, the role of a serving police constable, believed to be the key planner of the Rs 7.11 crore daring daylight robbery, had come out in the open from Bengaluru. The accused, Annappa Naik of the Govindapura police station, was arrested along with Xavier, a former employee of Cash Management Services (CMS). According to investigators, the pair had meticulously prepared for the robbery for over six months after Xavier left the company.
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara had warned that any police personnel involved in criminal activities would be dismissed from service without mercy. He also stated that he had instructed senior officers to maintain strict vigilance in this regard.
