Breaking: Air India Dreamliner Crashes Shortly After Takeoff in Ahmedabad

Published

on

Ahmedabad, June 12, 2025: A Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner operating as Air India flight AI 171 bound for London Gatwick crashed into the Meghani Nagar neighbourhood just minutes after departing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

The wide-body jet, carrying between 230–242 occupants (including 232–242 passengers and 10–12 crew), took off around 1:38 PM IST, but lost contact at approximately 1,800 feet and impacted ground nearly within 5 minutes of departure.

Eyewitnesses report a massive fireball upon impact, followed by thick plumes of black smoke rising from what appears to be a heavily fuelled aircraft.
Emergency services from the Ahmedabad Fire Department, State Disaster Response Force, police, and multiple ambulance units were swiftly deployed to carry out rescue operations.

Air India confirmed the incident via a statement on X (formerly Twitter):

“Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad–London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025… At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest.”

This marks the first-ever hull loss of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, according to the Aviation Safety Network.

Casualties & Ongoing Rescue Efforts*

Official figures on casualties remain uncertain. Authorities have not confirmed fatalities or injuries, but initial reports suggest at least 50 fatalities ([en.wikipedia.org][6]). The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Gujarat police are coordinating closely to evacuate survivors, treat the injured, and secure the crash site.

Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran has announced the activation of an emergency control center and dispatched family support teams to assist those affected.

Government Response & Investigation*

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu described the incident as “devastating” and confirmed that all aviation and emergency agencies are fully mobilized.

Prime Minister’s Office and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been briefed. Amit Shah spoke with Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, who has urged authorities to expedite rescue operations and establish medical “green corridors” for critical cases.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), alongside a technical team from Boeing, has launched a full-scale investigation into the crash ([en.wikipedia.org][3]). Analysts note that the aircraft’s long-haul fuel load likely contributed to the severity of the post-impact fire, complicating rescue efforts ([en.wikipedia.org][3]).

  • Flight: AI 171, Ahmedabad → London Gatwick
  • Aircraft: Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner (VT‑ANB)
  • Occupants: ~242 (230 passengers + 12 crew)

The above-mentioned youth was active on social media and along with his activities on social media, he was in contact with the enemy country Pakistani terrorist organization. The accused has been arrested on this allegation. Along with this, a case has also been registered against the accused in the Dharmapur Town Police Station in Andhra. Maharashtra ATS and intelligence agencies have also interrogated him. The accused has been identified as Hafiz Tauseef Aslam Ansari. He is a tailor by profession and was also active on social media. The arrest of Hafiz Tauseef has created a sensation in Malegaon. After the arrest of Tauseef in Malegaon, the police have also seized his mobile phone and other documents and have also expanded the scope of the investigation. An investigation is underway to determine whether he has any criminal case registered against him, along with his suspicious activities and the number of times he has provided information related to India to terrorist organizations. His social media accounts are also being examined and monitored. Earlier, the Maharashtra ATS had arrested several youths, including a young PIO on charges of having links with Pakistani intelligence operatives. Many youths have also been trapped in the PIO’s honey trap. The PIO’s method is such that first the PIO regularly talks to an Indian citizen and the girl then makes her pictures and pornographic videos public. After threatening to make the pornographic chat public, they lure him with money and transfer money to the account. In such a situation, the intelligence agencies are obliged to take action against such youths. There are many youths who unknowingly fall for this misleading propaganda and get badly trapped. Therefore, one should remain alert and avoid the misuse of social media.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Samajwadi Party leader Worker Assembly Abu Asim Azmi criticized the statement of Home Minister Amit Shah and said that it is the responsibility of the Home Minister and the Central Government to take action against Bangladeshi and Pakistani infiltrators. The population of Muslims in India has increased due to Bangladeshis. This is completely wrong. The residents of West Bengal and ordinary Muslims are being targeted under the guise of Bangladeshi and Pakistanis. He said that the government is yours in many states and at the center, so how do Bangladeshi infiltrators enter from the border? What action has the government taken against those who forge their documents so far? He said that targeting Muslims under the guise of Bangladeshi should be stopped, just as Karat Soumya is trying to fake the certificates and documents of every Muslim and is targeting Muslims. He said that the government should pay attention to how Bangladeshi infiltrators infiltrate from the Indian border. This is not the job of Congress, SP or other parties. It is the job of the government to take action against Bangladeshi and Pakistanis and to bring them to justice. But Muslims should not be harassed or disturbed. He said that action is being taken against those officers who are preparing documents for Bangladeshis.
