On Foundation Day, NCP factions showcasing respective strengths

Published

on

Mumbai, June 10: NCP founder Sharad Pawar and his nephew, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, are set to hold separate ceremonies in Pune on Tuesday to mark the party’s foundation day.

Both factions will show their respective strengths after the split and express their resolve for consolidation.

These rallies are taking place amid the talks of a merger or an alliance ahead of the local and civic body elections in Maharashtra. Incidentally, Sharad Pawar-led NCP and Ajit Pawar-led NCP have scoffed at these rumours; instead, the leaders have said they have charted their respective plans for consolidation.

In his message on the occasion of the foundation day, NCP national president and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar exhorted the party members to resolve with strong determination to give a new dimension to the all-round development of Maharashtra and India in the coming times, and pledge to march toward a sustainable future.

“Heartfelt congratulations to everyone on the 26th anniversary of the Nationalist Congress Party! In 1999, cherishing the ideological legacy of Shiv-Shahu-Phule-Ambedkar and considering the progressive, transformative social politics of the late Yashwantrao Chavan Saheb as an ideal, we all laid the foundation of the Nationalist Congress Party,” said Ajit Pawar. However, the name of his estranged uncle and the founder of NCP, Sharad Pawar, is missing in his message, which he shared on X.

“Over the past 26 years, we have played both ruling and opposition roles, making significant contributions and bringing new momentum to the politics and governance of Maharashtra as well as the nation. We will continue this journey of people-oriented social and political work unabated. On this anniversary, let us resolve with strong determination to give a new dimension to the all-round development of Maharashtra and India in the coming times, and pledge to march toward a sustainable future! Once again, best wishes to all,” said Ajit Pawar. He left his uncle, Sharad Pawar and joined hands with the BJP-led Mahayuti in July 2023, and also won the party name and clock symbol in the legal battle.

On the other hand, NCP(SP) leader Supriya Sule, who was elected from Baramati constituency in the Lok Sabha elections after defeating Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar, said the party founded by Sharad Pawar has nurtured the lesson taught by the architect of modern Maharashtra, the late Yashwantrao Chavan.

She said that carrying this very ideology, the party consistently reached out to the grassroots populace. The workers of nationalist ideology are always ready to deliver justice to various sections of society, including farmers, labourers, toilers, women, and youth.

In her message, Sule wished the people, workers, leaders, office-bearers, and public representatives who have stood firmly with the party throughout this journey.

“Respected Pawar Saheb planted the sapling of nationalist ideology in the proud land of Maharashtra, which has now grown into a mighty banyan tree. Today marks the completion of 26 years of this event. As we celebrate the anniversary of our Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar faction, it fills us with heartfelt satisfaction to know that we have strived to amplify the voice of the exploited, deprived, and oppressed people across the country on various platforms, securing justice for them. We have nurtured the lesson taught by the architect of modern Maharashtra, the late Yashwantrao Chavan Saheb, of 80 percent social work and 20 percent politics. Carrying this very ideology, we consistently reach out to the grassroots populace. We, the workers of nationalist ideology, are always ready to deliver justice to various sections of society, including farmers, labourers, toilers, women, and youth,” said Sule in her post on X.

“The steadfast support and blessings of respected Pawar Saheb are with us today, which is a matter of great value to us. The energy of his thoughts will always be a source of strength for us. On this anniversary, heartfelt congratulations to the people, workers, leaders, office-bearers, and public representatives who have stood firmly with us throughout this journey,” stated Sule.

Ruckus in Bengal Assembly as BJP MLAs protest over Maheshtala violence, Murshidabad riots

Kolkata, June 12: Pandemonium broke out in the West Bengal Assembly on Thursday after Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay refused to admit two adjournment motions, moved by opposition BJP, seeking discussions on the communal violence in Murshidabad in April and the clashes in the Maheshtala area in South 24 Parganas district.

As the members of the BJP’s legislative team moved the two adjournment motions soon after the House began, the Speaker refused to admit them on the grounds that both matters were sub judice and hence could not be taken up for discussion.

The refusal irked the BJP legislators, who, led by LoP Suvendu Adhikari, started protesting in front of the Speaker’s chair after coming down to the well of the Assembly.

The security personnel of the Assembly raised a human wall between the Speaker’s chair and the protesting legislators.

The BJP legislators shouted slogans and waved flags. They also protested by tearing apart paper documents on the House proceedings distributed among the legislators.

As the West Bengal Minister of State for Finance (independent charge), Chandrima Bhattacharya protested against this action, there were heated conversations between the BJP and Trinamool Congress legislators within the House.

“These paper documents are not any personal property that they can be destroyed in such a manner,” Bhattacharya was heard saying.

The BJP legislators continued with their protests even as the Trinamool Congress MLAs continued with their speeches in the House as per schedule.

Adhikari is scheduled to meet Governor C.V. Ananda Bose on the issue of Maheshtala violence

The BJP leader has sought the intervention of the Governor in initiating disciplinary action against the inspector-in-charge of the local Rabindra Nagar police station for allegedly remaining inactive in preventing clashes.

Earlier in the day, he approached the Calcutta High Court seeking a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the Maheshtala clashes and deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel in the area where clashes broke out on Wednesday

CM Fadnavis and Raj Thackeray meet in Mumbai hotel amid alliance buzz with Shiv Sena(UBT)

Published

Mumbai, June 12: Amid talks of an alliance between two estranged brothers, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, ahead of the upcoming elections for the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday met with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief.

The meeting lasted over 45 minutes. Sources said it was about the MNS’s entry into the MahaYuti for contesting as an alliance partner in the local and civic body elections. The meeting between the two has created a buzz in the state political circles.

Although the details of the meeting are not known yet, the state BJP sources confirmed that CM Fadnavis and Raj Thackeray met at the city’s five-star hotel, but preferred not to comment on the outcome of the meeting. However, there has been no confirmation yet from MNS.

The pro alliance advocates from both Shiv Sena(UBT) and MNS were caught unawares about CM Fadnavis’ move to hold an interaction with Raj Thackeray.

Incidentally, CM Fadnavis enjoys a good rapport with Raj Thackeray. Also, the Shiv Sena chief, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, has good relations with the MNS chief. Both the CM and deputy CM want the latter to be part of the MahaYuti to take on Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena(UBT) and the Maha Vikas Aghadi in general in the BMC elections and also in the rest of Maharashtra.

Both Fadnavis and Shinde have favoured Raj Thackeray. The association is perceived to checkmate Uddhav Thackeray and also to impress the Marathis in general.

Raj Thackeray did not win even a single seat in the state Assembly elections, but he enjoys a large-scale support from the Marathis, which has been the key vote bank of the Shiv Sena, founded by late Balasaheb Thackeray in the 1960s.

CM Fadnavis, in particular, has been pitching for hoisting the flag atop BMC, and in MahaYuti has been attempting to capture power in India’s richest body, thereby ending the control of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena. In addition, the MahaYuti, by bringing Raj Thackeray in its fold, wants to continue its victory march after the stellar performance in the state Assembly elections held last year.

As far as Raj Thackeray is concerned, a section of party workers believe that going with the BJP-led MahaYuti will benefit the party to spread its wings by effectively playing Hindutva and Marathi Manoos cards. They also argue that Uddhav Thackeray has compromised on Hindutva as practised by Balasaheb Thackeray by joining hands with Congress and NCP to come to power in 2109 by ditching the traditional ally BJP. Another section claimed that aligning with Uddhav Thackeray may spoil its poll prospects and erode the Hindutva and Marathi Manoos voters.

The meeting between CM Fadnavis and Raj Thackeray comes two days after the state urban development department issued a notification on initiating the drafting of ward boundaries for 29 municipal corporations, including the BMC, especially in the wake of the recent Supreme Court order directing the state government to complete the election process in four months.

The other key civic bodies include Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Nashik, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Navi Mumbai, Vasai-Virar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Kalyan-Dombivli.

The Urban Development department has asked the Municipal Commissioners to start preparing ward boundary drafts, which will be sent to the State Election Commission (SEC) for approval. These civic bodies will also need to invite suggestions and objections from citizens and provide hearings before finalising the boundaries. Currently, these civic bodies are under the administrator’s rule.

BJP Minority Morcha to hold yoga camps in UP madrassas

Published

Lucknow, June 12: The BJP Minority Morcha is set to conduct yoga camps in selected madrassas across all 403 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh on June 21 — International Yoga Day.

The initiative is part of a wider campaign commemorating 11 years of governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to Uttar Pradesh BJP Minority Morcha president Basit Ali, the party’s outreach will specifically target maulanas and madrassa students, encouraging them to participate in the yoga sessions.

These camps aim to create engagement and promote wellness while simultaneously highlighting the Modi government’s policies within the minority community.

As part of the broader effort, the Morcha is also launching a campaign titled ‘Alpsankhyako ka ye paigaam: Modi ke saath Musalman (Minorities’ Message: Muslims are with Modi)’.

This drive, focused on building a better understanding and support among Muslims, will roll out across major cities in Uttar Pradesh.

The main event is scheduled to take place in Lucknow on June 12 and will include participation from members of the intellectual community, including doctors, teachers, engineers, and lawyers.

“To mark the 11 years of Prime Minister Modi’s governance, the party will organise programmes in all 403 Assembly constituencies, specifically targeting 403 madrasas across Uttar Pradesh. These events will involve maulanas, madrasa students, and local community members, beginning with yoga sessions followed by district-level programs,” Basit Ali told Media.

One of the standout components of this campaign will be the initiative ‘Desh Ka Paigham, Pratibha Ko Samman’, which will honour high-achieving individuals from the minority community. This includes meritorious students and those who have become IAS or IPS officers or contributed meaningfully to the country’s development.

Furthering its grassroots outreach, the Morcha will also organise ‘chaupals’ across all Assembly constituencies in selected districts. These informal public gatherings will focus on raising awareness about the BJP’s development work and schemes.

The chaupals are planned to be set up outside places of worship such as temples, mosques, gurudwaras, and churches to ensure community-wide interaction, the party’s Minority Morcha chief added.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party is committed to reaching out to minorities in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the 11 years of governance under PM Narendra Modi, focused on good governance and welfare of the poor. The party will take these achievements to the people, especially Muslim intellectuals, maulanas, and influential community members… The slogan ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ is not just a saying but a firm commitment,” said Basit Ali.
