Mumbai: Aaditya Thackeray, Yuva Sena chief and former minister, criticised Maharashtra’s leadership, claiming that the state has been under an ‘illegal’ Chief Minister and the Mahayuti coalition for over the past two and a half years, which has only exploited Maharashtra. He made these remarks at an event hosted by the Indian Merchant Chamber in Churchgate, organised by Mumbai First and the Mumbai Press Club.

Aaditya Thackeray Addresses The Issue Of Rising Pollution In Mumbai

Speaking to the gathering, Thackeray addressed the issue of rising pollution in Mumbai and shared his vision for the city’s future. He highlighted the need for stringent and permanent regulations at construction sites, expanded public transportation options and strong health initiatives to improve citizens’ well-being.

Aaditya Thackeray On Current Governance

The Shiv Sena candidate from Worli criticised the current governance model, pointing out that the BMC reserves, which stood at Rs 90,000 crore two and a half years ago, have now dropped to Rs 80,000 crore. He attributed this decline to what he described as the ‘plundering’ of the BMC’s treasury by the ‘illegal’ CM and government.

Thackeray pointed out that multiple authorities such as the BMC, MHADA, SRA and the Railways are operating in Mumbai, which complicates the city’s development. He proposed the establishment of a unified authority to streamline and coordinate the city’s growth. To tackle Mumbai’s infamous traffic congestion, Thackeray emphasised the importance of the Coastal Road project.

He highlighted the Rs 6.5 lakh crore in investments brought in by the MVA government. He also stressed the need for metro projects to further support the city’s transport network. Thackeray outlined plans to expand the BEST fleet with 10,000 electric buses by 2027, and announced the procurement of 900 AC double-decker buses.

Ahead of the most-awaited BMC elections, the Mumbai BJP has organised a massive convention on Tuesday, September 16, where the party will launch a platform for citizens to register their demands and suggestions. “An exclusive website will be launched in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for Mumbaikars to register their issues and expectations from us, which will be included in the party manifesto for the BMC election,” said BJP Mumbai President Ameet Satam.

“The BJP karyakars will visit door to door and urge Mumbaikars to register their demands to be included in the poll manifesto. We want to give Mumbaikars a safe city and stop illegal migrants. In the last 11 years under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis, Mumbai has seen massive infrastructural development like the Coastal Road, Atal Setu and Metro, as well as an enhancement in the CCTV surveillance. Safety, security and infrastructure development are our top agenda for Mumbai,” Satam added.

In a major re-shuffle ahead of BMC elections, a three-time MLA from Andheri West and an ‘Outstanding Parliamentarian’ awardee by the President of India, was appointed as Mumbai BJP chief on August 25.

The convention on September 16 will be held in the NSCI dome, Worli and around 10,000 BJP karyakartas will be present along with CM Devendra Fadnavis and senior BJP leaders, prominently from Mumbai.

Meanwhile, in June, the BJP had declared its steering committee for BMC elections consisting of 27 members, including current and former MPs, MLAs, former corporators and Yuva morcha leaders. It is tasked to conduct a comprehensive ward-wise review and was expected to submit detailed reports to the party’s Mumbai President. “The key job of the committee is to spearhead the BJP’s election strategy. However, the said report is yet to be submitted,” said a BJP office-bearer.

A total of 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, including the BMC, will go for polls post-Diwali. In Mumbai, the electoral ward remains 227, similar to the last BMC elections held in February 2017. The nine-step process of ward demarcation is in process, and the BMC will notify the final ward demarcation between October 3 to 6.

Thane Crime: Senior Citizen’s Bag With Gold Worth ₹58,000 Stolen In Rickshaw By Woman With Child In Dombivli

Published

Thane: A 76-year-old woman’s bag containing a gold chain, a gold ring, and cash worth Rs 58,000 was stolen in a rickshaw in Dombivli by a woman travelling with a small child. The incident took place last Friday, after the victim, Vijaya Bhosale, returned from Ganpati celebrations in Konkan and hired a direct rickshaw from Pandit Dindayal Chowk to her home in Thakurwadi, near Dombivli West railway station.

As the rickshaw began its journey, a 40-year-old woman with a child forcibly entered the vehicle, despite Bhosale stating she had hired it for a solo trip. During the ride, the woman attempted to touch the gold chain around Bhosale’s neck.

When questioned, the woman denied any wrongdoing. However, she had placed her bag close to the elderly woman and managed to steal the gold ornaments and Rs 4,500 in cash from Bhosale’s wallet without being noticed.

It was only after reaching home and attempting to use her phone that Bhosale discovered the valuables were missing. She then realised the theft likely occurred during the shared rickshaw ride. A complaint has been registered at Vishnunagar police station, and authorities suspect the woman who forced her way into the rickshaw is responsible, as reported.

Reports suggest that some women have been targeting passengers near Dombivli railway station, using similar tactics. Complicating the investigation, CCTV cameras in the area were not operational at the time of the incident, making it more difficult for police to track down the suspect, described as chubby and accompanied by a child.
