3 killed as car rams into truck on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

At least three persons were killed when a speeding car rammed into a stationery goods laden truck parked on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday, police said here.
The crash took place near the Urse village around 7.30 a.m. when the car virtually drove into the truck that had suffered a tyre burst and repairs were underway.
The impact was so powerful that the car almost fully went under the loaded truck and was crushed, killing the three occupants on the spot, said a local eyewitness.
Among the victims are the vehicle driver and two others and the accident occurred on one of the busiest spots on the Expressway.
Two victims have been identified as Rahul B. Kulkarni, 45, and Vijay V. Khaire, 70, while the identity of the third victim is being ascertained.
Following the accident, there was a traffic jam on the affected Mumbai-Pune arm of the highway which was cleared soon by the local police, highway patrol and volunteer groups.
Though the exact causes of the crash are not clear, police suspect that the driver probably may have lost control or was dozing at the wheel.

Thane Crime Branch Busts Vehicle Theft Gang; 5 Arrested, 28 Stolen Motorcycles Worth ₹17 Lakh Recovered

Thane: The Thane Crime Branch units II and III have arrested five habitual vehicle thieves and solved 26 theft cases, recovering 28 stolen motorcycles worth over ₹17 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Atul Khandagale (24) of Pune, Shekhar Pawar (30) of Jalgaon, Akash Nasargandh (23) of Kalyan, Ghazi Hussain (19) of Ambivli in Kalyan, and Mustaque Ansari of Bhiwandi.
Thane Police recently launched a special drive against vehicle theft across the commissionerate. Acting on a tip-off and with the help of technical intelligence, the crime branch laid a trap and apprehended the suspects.
According to officials, the recovered vehicles were stolen from multiple jurisdictions, including Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, and Thane Rural. The seized vehicles, comprising motorcycles and cars, are valued at ₹17,89,899.
All the accused were produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigation.

Mumbai Weather Update: IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert For Next 4 Days; Relief From Humidity Expected

Mumbai: Mumbai and it’s metropolitan regions are expected to get relief from the heightened humidity as the (India Meteorological Department IMD) has issued alert for heavy downpour for the next four days.
For September 13 and 14, the districts of Mumbai and Thane are placed under Yellow Alert (heavy rainfall at isolated places) and Palghar under Orange Alert (heavy to very heavy rainfall).
The city was lashed with intense rainfall in August. However, since last week there has been decrease in the monsoon activity, resulting in hike in the temperatures, heat and humidity.
As per the local weather forecast for the next 48 hours for Mumbai city and suburbs, the skies will be partly cloudy sky with light rains. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 31°C and 25°C, respectively.
As of September 10, Mumbai has received 95% of its average annual rainfall, with the eastern suburbs receiving 2269.65 mm of rainfall, the western suburbs with 2239.95 mm and the city area with 1767.62 mm of rainfall.

Maharashtra: ATM With Over ₹16 Lakhs Cash Robbed From Verul Caves In Ahilyanagar

Mumbai: Recently, ATM thefts have risen in Maharashtra, particularly in isolated villages, which have reported multiple cases involving not just the forced opening of ATM machines but also the theft of the machines themselves.
In a recent event, robbers took an ATM from a State Bank located in front of the famous Verul Caves in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district, making off with cash totaling Rs 16 lakh. This has created an uproar in Verul and surrounding areas, and the police are having trouble apprehending the robbers.
At 3 am on Wednesday, some unidentified thieves took an ATM machine that had Rs 16 lakh 7 thousand 100. The thieves are observed to have stolen the ATM along with the money.
The Ratnapur police were informed about this by bank officers and employees. Police Inspector Dhananjay Farate and his team hurried to the location and carried out a panchnama. A probe has been initiated to capture the criminals who fled with the money and the ATM.
Dog units, forensic team members, and local law enforcement officers reviewed the CCTV recordings at the Verul Caves, Ghrishneshwar Temple, and the surrounding village all day long.
In recent news, A viral CCTV video from Maharashtra Bank’s ATM in Jalgaon captures two masked thieves attempting a robbery by tampering with the security camera. The incident occurred on September 10, but it remains unclear if they succeeded.
Police reported that four individuals from an interstate gang, who were involved in stealing cash from ATMs by cutting them open, have been apprehended here. An official stated that a gas cutter was used to break open an ATM in the Udgir area, resulting in cash being stolen by unidentified criminals a few days prior. Four individuals were captured close to a gravel site on the Latur-Ausa road around 3 pm on Wednesday.
