Guj stray dog menace: Infant bitten in Vadodara, 15 others attacked in Surat

In a shocking incident, an infant was attacked by a stray dog inside a house in Gujarat’s Vadodara. In another incident on Monday, 15 people were bitten by a dog in a Surat area.
Five-month-old Janhvi Tailor was bitten by a street dog on Sunday evening while she was sleeping in the cradle at her residence. The dog had somehow sneaked inside the house.
The dog bit her on the head and face. She was rushed to the Gotri Government Hospital, where she got 15 stitches. Doctors from the hospital said her condition was stable.
Bharat Tailor, grandfather of the toddler, told the local media that on Sunday evening, he and his wife had gone out and when his daughter-in-law had gone to fetch water, a street dog entered their ground floor house and started biting his granddaughter. Her cries made the rush and she was horrified to see the dog licking blood on the floor.
In another incident in Surat, a street dog bit 15 people, including children on Monday morning in the Khwaja Dana area.
Of these, 13 were being treated in the government hospital and three were shifted to private hospital.
“It is a shocking incident, but unfortunately the ruling party and administration of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is taking stray cattle and dog menace lightly,” said Ami Rawat, leader of the opposition in VMC.
She also alleged, “Crores of rupees have been wasted on sterilization of stray dogs, but the result is very poor and citizens become victims. The corporation should investigate the claims by the agency about the sterilization figure.”
“The sterilization of street dogs is followed as per the Supreme Court guidelines. Annually 5,000 to 6,000 dogs are sterilized in Vadodara. In 2014 there were 40,000 street dogs and in 2022 the population is around 20,000. The corporation is trying its best to control the dog menace and make the city safe for citizens,” said Dr Hitendra Patel, Chairman of VMC Standing Committee.

Baba Siddique Murder Case: Late NCP Leader’s Wife, Shehzeen Siddique, Seeks To Join Prosecution And Pleads For Justice In Special MCOCA Court

Mumbai: Late NCP leader Baba Siddique’s wife Shehzeen has approached the special MCOCA court, pleading that she be allowed to join the prosecution to conduct the case of her husband’s murder, as her family is the ultimate victim of the act of the accused.
As the court is yet to begin the trial, Baba’s wife Shehzeen has, on Friday, submitted an application through her advocate Trivankumar Karnani, seeking permission to allow her to join the prosecution to conduct the trial in the case. She pleaded that the accused have committed a cold-blooded, gruesome murder in a pre-planned and premeditated manner of the deceased.
“She has suffered an irreparable loss, and that it is of utmost importance for the intervenor to put on record the true and correct facts to assist this Court to come to a free and fair conclusion in the matter at hand,” Shehzeen said in her application, adding that there are several important aspects which require due and proper weightage.
The application emphasis on the right of the victim to be heard as held by Supreme court in numerous pleas. “It has been held that the victim is the defacto sufferer of a crime. The ethos of criminal justice dispensation to prevent and punish crime should not surreptitiously turn its back on the victim. The jurisprudence with respect to the rights of victims to be heard and to participate in criminal proceedings began to positively evolve,” reads the plea.
Siddique, 66, was killed on October 12, 2014, near his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra. Three assailants allegedly part of Bishnoi’s gang had opened fire at the car where Baba sat to leave from the office. As soon as he got into the car, the accused opened fire at him, giving no room for his guards to react. The assailants however were caught by police while they tried to escape.
Shehzeen further pleaded that, “This audacious attack, executed in one of the city’s most affluent and bustling neighborhoods, saw the assailants shoot Siddique at point blank range, before fleeing the scene, leaving behind a trail of grief and outrage for the family of the deceased,’ reads the plea.
So far, police have arrested 26 suspects in connection with the murder. The Mumbai police had, in December, submitted a chargesheet against 26 accused involved in the murder of NCP leader. The police claimed that the murder was ordered by Bishnoi, who is heading the gang.
In its chargesheet, the police claimed that the investigation revealed that the members of the gang had hatred against the Bollywood actor Salman Khan. Besides, Siddique was very close to the actor, and further, the gang wanted to establish terror and supremacy. These were the key motives behind conspiring to kill Siddique.

New India Cooperative Bank: Bollywood Actress Preity Zinta Received ₹1.5 Crore Loan Remission, Reveals EOW Probe

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Preity Zinta received a loan remission by New India Cooperative Bank. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is looking into Hiren Bhanu, the former chairman of the bank, for allegedly approving loans in return for bribes, as per reports.
The investigation has revealed that the actress benefitted from a remission on her loan. The police said that on January 7, 2011, a loan of Rs. 18 crore was sanctioned to actress Preity Zinta. The loan was declared a Non-Performing Asset (NPA) on March 31, 2013. The amount was later settled at Rs. 10.74 crore, and a remission of Rs. 1.55 crore was granted to her. The amount was paid on April 5, 2014, according to a report by Media quoting an EOW officer.
In February, the Kerala Congress unit alleged that the bank had waived off a Rs 18 crore loan in exchange for Preity Zinta’s support for the BJP. In response, Zinta clarified that she had an overdraft facility with the bank over 12 years ago, which was fully repaid more than a decade ago. She stated that her account had been closed since then, refuting any claims that she benefited from the bank’s financial issues.
While replying to the post of the Congress Kerala, Actress stated “No I operate my social media accounts my self and shame on you for promoting FAKE NEWS ! No one wrote off anything or any loan for me. I’m shocked that a political party or their representative is promoting fake news & indulging in vile gossip & click baits using my name & images. For the record a loan was taken and FULLY PAID BACK – over 10 years ago. Hope this clarifies and helps so there are no misunderstandings in the future.”
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) officer mentioned that they are reviewing the documents from the bank as part of their investigation.

New Delhi, March 28: Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, who is facing multiple criminal cases over the “traitor” jibe towards Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, on Friday petitioned the Madras High Court seeking transit anticipatory bail.
Kamra’s plea was mentioned for urgent hearing before a bench of Justice Sunder Mohan, who assured to examine the matter later in the day.
Mumbai’s MIDC police station on Monday registered a Zero FIR against Kamra for cracking an allegedly objectionable joke during a stand-up comedy show.

The Mumbai Police had served two summons to Kamra, who has not yet appeared to give his statement.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Legislative Council on Thursday accepted a privilege notice against Kamra and forwarded it to the Privileges Committee.
“I have accepted the notice of breach of privilege against Kunal Kamra and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare and have sent it to Privilege Committee chairman Prasad Lad. The future course of action regarding the motion will be decided by the committee,” said Upper House Chairman Ram Shinde.
