Those who fight for people will get tickets: Rahul

Published

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday told the party leaders in Telangana that those who remain in the midst of people and fight for them will get the tickets in the next year’s Assembly elections.

Stressing the need for unity, he cautioned the state leaders against voicing their grievances before the media and also urged them to go to their respective constituencies and work on the ground.

On the second day of his two-day visit to Telangana, Rahul was addressing an extended meeting of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) at Gandhi Bhavan, the state headquarters of the party in Hyderabad.

Reiterating that the coming elections will be a direct fight between TRS and Congress, he made it clear that the tickets will be given only on the basis of merit.

“Tickets will be given on the basis of merit. Nobody should be under any illusion. Those who work and remain in the midst of people, fight for farmers, workers, petty traders and youth will get tickets on merit basis,” said the Congress MP.

“Our party is a family. No one should feel that he is being discriminated against. You will be rewarded for the work. No matter how senior a leader you are and no matter how many years you have spent in the party, if you don’t work, you won’t get a ticket,” he said, adding that the tickets will be given after taking independent and ground feedback.

“If you sit in Hyderabad you will not get a ticket. Don’t come to Delhi, it backfires. Go to constituencies and villages, take to streets and work. I know, in Hyderabad you get good biryani and chai but you will have to leave Hyderabad and go to villages to be with the people,” he told the party leaders.

Stating that the Warangal Declaration passed at Friday’s public meeting is the first milestone for Congress leaders, he said their first task is to tell every citizen and every farmer of the state about the Warangal declaration.

In the declaration, the party has made a slew of promises to the farmers of Telangana.

“It’s not a mere declaration but a partnership between Congress party and Telangana farmers. This is the guarantee of the Congress party,” he said.

Rahul said over the next one month, all the Congress leaders in their respective constituencies and areas should explain the Warangal declaration in detail to every person. “Even if I ask a 12-year-old child, he should be able to tell me all the points of the declaration.”

Describing Congress as a family, Rahul Gandhi warned the leaders against voicing their grievances publicly. “This is a family. The views may differ. This is not a family like RSS where one man takes all decisions. We want to hear views of all but not in the media. It should be in closed doors, the way a family talks,” he said.

“If there are grievances or complaints we have an internal system. You can openly say whatever you want to say but if anyone goes out and tells something to the media, he will be damaging the Congress party and we will not accept this,” he said.

Stating that the Warangal public meeting was very successful, he said this was the result of hard work put in by the party and congratulated all the leaders and workers.

Alleging that Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao, who is popularly known as KCR, looted Telangana, he said the TRS leader has no dearth of money. “He also has police and establishment with him but people are not with him and nothing is powerful than people, he said.

The Congress MP said the party wants to make Telangana a model state and realize the dream with which the state was formed.

“We don’t want to make a government of a few selected people and monopolists but we want to form a government of farmers, the poor and every citizen of this state. Want to focus on education, health and employment. This is our target and dream and to achieve this need we need unity in the party.”

He also stated that outside the Congress party, there are several youth, leaders and the party’s old workers who believe in Congress ideology. “We should open Congress doors for them. I am inviting all of them to come and work with us to fight TRS and KCR,” he said.

“I want to tell the youth, you have seen eight years, you have seen how the dream of Telangana was ruined, how money was looted and your future was destroyed. You did not get schools, colleges and hospitals and the money which you should have got went to one family,” he said.

Rahul said that removing TRS and KCR from Telangana is the responsibility of Congress but it’s also the responsibility of the youth of Telangana.

“I also invite youth to come to Congress and work to change Telangana. Sonia ji had seen the dream of Telangana with you. She gave statehood. The Congress party suffered a loss but we stood with you because it was a just cause. I want to make the Telangana dream come true by working with people. Hence wherever my services are required invite me, I am with you,” he added.

Kolkata, Oct 28: After BJP leader Rakesh Singh and his children were arrested in connection with an assault case in West Bengal, his minor daughter on Tuesday filed a counter-complaint of molestation against the son of the flat owner, on whose complaint her father was held.

The police said flat owner Chandu Khan’s son has been arrested, based on a complaint lodged by the BJP leader’s daughter.

Kasba Police said that all the arrested will be produced in court later in the day, where police custody of the accused will be sought.

According to sources, the police are investigating whether Rakesh Singh’s minor daughter also had any role in the incident on Monday.

“We have received a counter-complaint today. The BJP leader’s daughter has made the complaint. The accused has been arrested on charges of molestation. We are investigating both incidents. Separate cases have been registered. Investigation is on,” said a senior officer of Kolkata Police.

Kolkata Police arrested Rakesh Singh and his son on charges of going on a rampage inside a housing complex in the Kasba area of Kolkata on Monday.

The police had also detained the minor daughter of the BJP leader over the same charge.

According to flat owner Chandu Khan’s son Rajarshi Khan, “Rakesh Singh has a flat on the fourth floor. He has forcibly occupied our flat on the third floor. He has kept his belongings there. I have repeatedly asked him to remove the belongings. But, he did not remove them. We were taking the workers today and putting their belongings down because we were paying rent. Then eight to nine people came and beat my father and brother. They had firearms in their hands. They beat them with gun butts. My father had to be admitted to the hospital. They also attacked me with a knife.”

However, the daughter has now filed a molestation case against the son of the flat owner.

In September, Rakesh Singh was arrested for vandalism at the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) office in central Kolkata. Later, he was released on bail.

Mumbai, October 28: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully carried out a long-range medical evacuation of a critically injured Iranian fisherman from the fishing dhow Al-Owais in the Arabian Sea, about 1,500 km west of Kochi. The operation highlights India’s continued commitment to maritime safety and international cooperation at sea.

According to Indian Coast Guard, the injured fisherman is currently receiving medical treatment onboard ICG Ship Sachet, which is heading towards Goa for advanced medical care. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Mumbai, was alerted by MRCC Chabahar (Iran) about the emergency situation onboard Al-Owais. Acting swiftly, MRCC Mumbai activated the International Safety Net (ISN), diverted merchant vessel MT STI Grace and tasked ICG Ship Sachet to provide immediate assistance.

Tele-medical guidance was provided during the operation and the injured crew member was safely transferred to ICG Sachet for further care. The ICG’s prompt response ensured that the fisherman received timely medical aid in the middle of the sea, showcasing the force’s professionalism and humanitarian approach.

ICG issued an official statement and said, “In a swift and coordinated rescue operation, @IndiaCoastGuard undertook long range mid sea #MEDVAC of a critically injured #Iranian fisherman from the dhow Al-Owais, approx 1500km west of #Kochi. #MRCC #Mumbai alerted by #MRCC #Chabahar, #Iran, regarding an explosion-related injury to the master, Mr. Allah Baksh.”

It further said, “#ICG Ship Sachet and Marshall Islands-flagged tanker MT STI Grace were diverted for assistance. The patient was evacuated, stabilized and transferred mid-sea to #ICGS Sachet. The injured crew is under medical supervisions onboard #ICGS Sachet enroute to #Goa for further medical management.”

This follows another recent rescue, where ICG Ship Kasturba Gandhi and an ICG Dornier aircraft successfully saved 31 Indian fishermen stranded onboard the disabled fishing boat Anton 1, which had been adrift for 11 days amid rough weather. The coordinated sea-air rescue once again reaffirmed the Indian Coast Guard’s dedication to saving lives at sea.

Maha CM Devendra Fadnavis Announces ‘Mumbai Climate Week’; International Conference To Commence From Feb 17 To 19

Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced that the international conference ‘Mumbai Climate Week’ will be held in Mumbai from February 17 to 19, 2026. The event aims to highlight India’s leadership in climate change and environmental conservation at the global level. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also unveiled the official logo of Mumbai Climate Week.

The ambitious initiative has been conceptualised by Project Mumbai and will be organized in collaboration with the Maharashtra government’s Department of Environment and Climate Change and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The announcement was made during a meeting held at the committee hall in Mantralaya. Environment and Climate Change Minister Pankaja Munde, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Department Secretary Jayshree Bhoj, and Project Mumbai’s founder and CEO Shishir Joshi were also present.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said that Mumbai Climate Week will play an important role in balancing development and environmental action, especially in the context of challenges faced by developing nations due to climate change, food, and energy shortages. He added that the event will provide a platform for policymakers, experts, and citizens to come together and find sustainable solutions.

The need for such an event has grown stronger as climate change continues to impact urban areas like Mumbai through rising temperatures, erratic monsoons, and flooding. Experts say cities must take the lead in climate resilience by adopting cleaner energy sources, protecting coastlines, and promoting sustainable living.

Project Mumbai CEO Shishir Joshi said, “This initiative is more than a conference. It is a step towards a collective movement that will connect citizens, policymakers, and innovators to secure a sustainable future for Mumbai and beyond.”
