Uddhav Thackeray meets, comforts Sanjay Raut’s family
In a warm gesture, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray called on the family of party MP Sanjay Raut and offered solace to them, here on Monday.
Thackeray, accompanied by Lok Sabha MP Arvind Sawant and other senior party leaders met Raut’s aged mother, wife Varsha, daughter and other family members at their home in ‘Maitri’ bungalow in Bhandup.
Raut’s mother became emotional and held onto Thackeray, expressing silent concerns for her son who was arrested by the ED early this morning in an alleged money-laundering case arising out of the Patra Chawl, Goregaon, land scam.
Thackeray spoke with Raut’s mother, wife and his daughter, who were rendered speechless as he was whisked off in detention by the ED and police teams on Sunday evening, and attempted to offer solace to them after the sudden developments since Sunday dawn.
On Sunday morning, an ED team raided the Raut household and questioned the MP for over nine hours.
Then he was detained and taken to the ED office where he was grilled for another over seven hours and finally arrested on Monday morning.
The arrest has been strongly condemned by the Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party, Congress and other opposition leaders.
However, the Shiv Sena breakaway faction leader and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, commenting on the arrest said “the daily morning loudspeaker falls silent”, a reference to Raut’s fiery media briefings either in Mumbai or New Delhi.
As he was being escorted inside the Special Court by the ED this afternoon, Raut said that “this is an attempt to finish off the Shiv Sena, but we will not be defeated”.
While the Special Court hearing is underway, Thackeray is likely to speak to the media on the issue later this afternoon.

Gold holds steady amid easing US-Iran tensions; silver gains on MCX

Mumbai, Gold prices remained largely steady on Wednesday as improving prospects of easing geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran kept investor sentiment in check.
During early trade, MCX gold May futures were marginally higher by 0.02 per cent at Rs 1,53,305 per 10 grams.
Commenting on gold technical outlook, experts said that a sustained move above Rs 1,55,000 could revive momentum toward Rs 1,57,000-Rs 1,58,000.
“On the downside, a break below Rs 1,54,000 may lead to a corrective move toward Rs 1,52,000 and further to Rs 1,50,000,” an analyst stated.
Silver prices, however, saw stronger buying interest, with MCX silver May futures rising 0.83 per cent to Rs 2,54,842 per kg.
“Resistance is placed at Rs 2,60,000–Rs 2,63,000, with further upside toward Rs 2,68,000–Rs 2,70,000,” a market expert said.
“A sustained move above these levels could strengthen momentum and support further gains. On the downside, a break below Rs 2,48,000 may lead to a corrective move toward the Rs 2,44,000–Rs 2,40,000 range,” as per an analyst.
In the previous session, gold had ended flat at Rs 1,53,216 per 10 grams, while silver futures slipped 0.1 per cent to Rs 2,25,499 per kg.
Globally, the yellow metal held on to its recent gains amid optimism that Washington and Tehran could move towards a negotiated settlement to the conflict that began on February 28.
The easing of tensions has reduced fears of a sharp energy-supply shock, which had earlier raised concerns about inflationary pressures.
Spot gold hovered near $4,850 an ounce after rising as much as 0.6 per cent during the session. The metal had surged over 2 per cent in the previous trading session on expectations that the US and Iran may soon hold a second round of ceasefire talks.
US President Donald Trump has indicated that negotiations could resume “over the next two days,” further boosting hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough.
Despite the recent stability, gold has faced pressure in recent weeks, falling nearly 8 per cent since the conflict began.
Early in the crisis, a liquidity squeeze prompted investors to offload bullion holdings to cover losses in other asset classes.

The Constitution of India has protected the oppressed and the Muslims. Abu Asim Azmi

Mumbai: The Constitution has given its rights to the oppressed and Muslims. Through reservation, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar has eliminated the difference between the weak and the strong. He has given equal rights to everyone in the Constitution. Today, efforts are being made to abolish the Constitution of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Such views were expressed by Member of Parliament Abu Asim Azmi today on Ambedkar Jayanti. He said that today, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution is the basis on which even the weakest person in the country can raise his voice against the powerful of the country, but attempts are being made to suppress this constitutional right. Whenever there is a problem, a double-edged sword is adopted towards the ruling party and the opposition. This is completely wrong. The Constitution has taught us the lesson of equality and equity. We will continue to fight to the last drop of our blood to ensure the protection and development of the Constitution. He said that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar has also given us the skill of upholding the Constitution and democratic values and he has given equal status to everyone. But unfortunately, today the government is plotting to abolish reservation and this is the reason why inequality has arisen in the country. Communalism is on the rise and this is the reason why there is an atmosphere of hatred in the country. The Constitution has never discriminated in the country, but today those in power are trying to weaken the constitutional values.
