The government of Telangana on Tuesday started disbursing financial assistance to farmers owning over five acres of land under Rythu Bandhu.

Authorities began depositing the amount under the investment support scheme into the bank accounts of farmers who own more than five acres of land.

The state government has so far disbursed Rs 3,946 crore to 51.99 lakh farmers who own up to four acres of land.

According to state Finance Minister Harish Rao, the government has so far disbursed the amount for 78.93 lakh acres.

He directed officials to ensure that there are no glitches in depositing the amount in the bank accounts of farmers.

The minister said depsite the financial problems faced by the state, the government is taking steps to make sure that all eligible farmers get the financial assistance for ‘Vanakalam’ or Kharif season.

Under Rythu Bandhu, the government credits Rs 5,000 per acre into the farmers’ bank accounts before the beginning of every crop season.

The disbursement for Kharif season began last week.

Finance minister S. Niranjan Reddy said the scheme during Kharif season will benefit about 68.1 lakh farmers in the state covering a total cultivable land of 1.5 crore acres.

Starting with farmers owning up to one acre land, the authorities are covering all beneficiaries in phases. The minister said during Kharif season a total of Rs 7,521 crore will be deposited in a phased manner.

During December -January the government had deposited Rs 7,411.52 crore into the bank accounts of 62.99 lakh farmers in the state.

The investment support under the state’s flagship scheme had covered 1,48,23,000 acres across the state for the Rabi season.

When the scheme was launched in 2018, the government was providing Rs 8,000 per acre per year (for both Rabi and Kharif seasons). The amount was enhanced to Rs 10,000 from 2019.

On January 10, the cumulative assistance provided under the scheme touched Rs 50,000 crore mark.

Niranjan Reddy said Rythu Bandhu, the brainchild of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, is proving a boon for farmers and it has helped transform agriculture in the state. He claimed that no other state in the country is implementing such a scheme for the welfare of farmers.

CBI court sentences BBAU office assistant to four years’ imprisonment in bribery case

Lucknow, Dec 10: A CBI Court in Lucknow has convicted and sentenced Vijay Kumar Dwivedi, a former Office Assistant at the University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET) under Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar University (BBAU), to four years’ rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on him, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said in an official statement issued on Wednesday.

The conviction was pronounced on December 9, the statement said.

According to the CBI, the case originated from a complaint filed by a contractual assistant professor of UIET, who alleged that Dwivedi had demanded an undue advantage of Rs 50,000 in exchange for facilitating the extension of the contractual appointment of the assistant professor.

The accused claimed that the extension would be processed through the Director of UIET and demanded a bribe to ensure the renewal.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI registered the case on June 2, 2017, and laid a trap. During the trap, Dwivedi was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant assistant professor. The agency subsequently arrested him.

Following the completion of the investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet against Dwivedi on August 1, 2017. The prosecution presented evidence, including witness testimonies, trap proceedings, and recovered money, to establish the guilt of the accused.

After a detailed trial, the CBI Court found Dwivedi guilty of demanding and accepting illegal gratification and sentenced him to four years’ imprisonment.

The court also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 30,000. The judgment, the agency said, reinforces the CBI’s commitment to combating corruption in public institutions.

The CBI actively investigates bribery cases, leading to convictions of public servants and private individuals for demanding or accepting bribes, with punishments including imprisonment and hefty fines.

Mindset was about coming back ‘stronger, bigger and better’: Hardik

New Delhi, Dec 10: After being named Player of the Match in the first T20I against South Africa on Tuesday, all-rounder Hardik Pandya set his sights on larger goals. Fully embracing his comeback, he aims to cherish every moment ahead.

Any doubts over his fitness were settled when he demonstrated his form in his first match since the Asia Cup 2025 injury. He delivered an impressive all-round performance, taking 1-16 with the ball and scoring an unbeaten 59 runs, aiding India’s 101-run victory over South Africa in Cuttack and securing a 1-0 lead in the series.

“You should be a rockstar, come perform for 10 minutes, and the crowd goes berserk. That has been the biggest motivation for me. Life has always thrown a lot of lemons at me, and I always thought that I would make lemonade. I’ve always believed that if I don’t believe in myself, how will others believe me? My mindset was really about coming back stronger, bigger and better,” Hardik said in a video shared by the BCCI.

“Every time that I walk in, I feel like the crowd has been waiting for this moment. They’ve come to watch me bat. Because I have stood strong, I have done a lot of things with grace. That has helped me become even more confident, back myself, and really trust my skill set. I really believe in myself as a player. Injuries test you mentally as well, and at the same time, it puts you in a lot of doubt,” he added.

Hardik also credited his girlfriend, Mahieka Sharma, for bringing positivity into his life before confidently stating that his goal is now to pursue bigger ambitions and excel in every opportunity he gets.

“A lot of credit goes to my loved ones. Special mention to my partner as well. She’s been nothing but the best to me since she entered my life. A lot of great things have happened since she’s arrived,” he said.

“I’ve been a very honest and very real person in life as well, which has helped me a lot. I don’t really sugarcoat a lot of things in my life. It’s never about the other person, never about how others think or how others perceive. It is always about how I feel inside. Now it’s a time where Hardik Pandya just wants to play the sport and enjoy every second on the ground. And yes, bigger and better will be the motto in my life,” he added.
