Shiv Sena workers vandalise Kunal Kamra’s show venue

Mumbai, March 24: Shiv Sena workers stormed the venue of stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra’s show and vandalised it after he mocked Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, referring to him as a “traitor.”

The controversy erupted following the viral circulation of a video in which Kamra performed a satirical song targeting Shinde, triggering outrage among members of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction.

Enraged party workers reached the venue, located in Mumbai’s Khar area, ransacked the place, and defaced the hotel’s nameplate by spraying black ink on it.

The Mumbai Police confirmed that Shiv Sena leader Rrahul Kanal, along with more than 20 others, has been booked by Khar Police for vandalism during the protest.

Additionally, Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel has filed a case at MIDC Police Station in Mumbai under sections 353(1)(b), 353(2), and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Kamra.

The controversy began when Kamra uploaded a video on his official YouTube channel featuring a performance in which he used a modified version of a song from the Bollywood film ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, replacing the lyrics to take a dig at Eknath Shinde.

The segment, in which Kamra sang, “Meri nazar se tum dekho to gaddar nazar wo aaye. Haaye,” was met with cheers from the audience but infuriated the Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

Reacting to the video, Shiv Sena leader Rrahul Kanal filed a complaint at Khar Police Station, alleging that Kamra’s remarks were derogatory and offensive towards the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister.

The complaint mentioned that the comedian’s act was performed at The Uni Continental Club in Khar West and directly targeted Shinde in an attempt to insult him.

Following the circulation of the video, Shiv Sena workers gathered at the venue of Kamra’s performance and vandalised property in protest. The party has also demanded Kamra’s arrest, arguing that his remarks were highly disrespectful and warranted legal action.

The political slugfest escalated further as Shiv Sena’s Thane Lok Sabha MP Naresh Mhaske lashed out at Kamra, warning him of severe consequences.

Mhaske launched a scathing attack on Kamra, calling him a “contract comedian” who was allegedly paid by Uddhav Thackeray to target Eknath Shinde.

He further warned that Kamra would face repercussions for his remarks, stating, “He should not have stepped on the tail of a snake. Once the fangs are out, there will be dire consequences.”

Mhaske went on to threaten that Shiv Sena workers would make it difficult for Kamra to move freely across the country.

Targeting Thackeray, Mhaske said that the Uddhav-led faction had no real political backing and was now relying on figures like Kamra to attack its rivals.

He also slammed Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut for sharing the video online. In a post on social media platform X, Raut defended Kamra, calling him a well-known writer and stand-up comedian, and accused the Shinde faction of trying to suppress dissent through intimidation.

He tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in his post, calling the latter a “weak home minister” for failing to prevent such incidents.

As the controversy raged on, Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel vowed to take legal action against Kamra, stating that he would ensure the comedian apologises. Patel, who filed a case against Kamra at MIDC Police Station, warned that the stand-up artist would soon be “shown his place.”

Shiv Sena leader Milind Deora also slammed Kamra, calling his remarks classist and dismissive of Shinde’s journey from being an auto driver to leading one of India’s largest states.

He accused Kamra of being part of an elite ecosystem that falsely claims to stand for democracy and meritocracy while belittling self-made leaders.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Krishna Hegde also condemned Kamra’s remarks, asserting that the comedian would soon face “Shiv Sena treatment.”

Hegde added that party workers were deeply angered by the comments made against their leader and that such insults would not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, Hegde also demanded Kamra’s immediate arrest, calling for strict legal action against him. He stated that Kamra had a history of making derogatory comments about political figures and recalled that he had previously faced a six-month ban from flying with an airline for similar behaviour.

Hegde warned that Kamra would soon receive a “befitting reply” from Shiv Sena leaders for his remarks on Eknath Shinde.

The police said that at 7:41 pm last night, BMC was conducting an operation in Akash Gali, Kurla and this volunteer had complained about the illegal street vendor, after which he was attacked. Krit Soumya, while showing his anger, demanded action against Muslim Bangladeshi street vendors. Not only that, he said that due to the collusion and collusion of the police and BMC at Kurla station, action against the street vendors and street vendors is being delayed. This is the reason why the hooliganism of the hawkers has increased here. Just a month ago, street vendors attacked the youth together. He sustained head injuries. He has made a serious allegation that such incidents have increased in Mumbai due to Muslim Bangladeshi street vendors, therefore strict action should be taken against Muslim Bangladeshi street vendors. Mumbai: The attack on Muslim youths by two to one hundred armed assailants during Iftar in Pune’s Lab Lake is extremely worrying. Expressing dissatisfaction with the police action after this attack, MLA Abu Asim Azmi has strongly demanded in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly that strict action be taken against the culprits and a case of attempt to murder be registered against them because these Muslim youths were attacked with weapons.

Despite this, the police have registered a case under minor sections, which is completely wrong. Today, the situation has become very bad. If someone offers prayers outside, they are attacked. In the past, Hindu women used to stand outside the mosque with their children to get the prayer person to pray for their children and they used to blow on the child’s head, but now there is an uproar when prayers are offered, and along with that, violence is also done.

He said that it is claimed that the functioning of the state will be carried out on the principles of Shivaji Maharaj, but today the situation is such that a knife case has been registered against Ram in the mouth. He said that this hooliganism should stop and I am here in the assembly and when it is time for prayer, where will I pray? Similarly, if someone is in the field, he prays there. He should be allowed to pray wherever he is. But today the situation has deteriorated to such an extent that objections are being raised against the worship of Muslims, which is completely wrong and strict action should be taken against it. And strict action should be taken against anyone who spoils the environment.

‘Fully Prepared To March To Mumbai Again’, Warns Maratha Activist Manoj Jarange Patil As Maharashtra Govt Dilly-Dallies On Quota Promise

Published

on

Mumbai: Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil has once again intensified his stance on the long-pending quota demand, warning that the community is prepared to march to Mumbai if the state government fails to honour its assurances.

Speaking in Jalna, Jarange said the Maratha community would not hesitate to launch another large-scale agitation, cautioning that any rollback on promises could trigger serious repercussions.

He questioned the intent of the government, stating that the issuance of a Government Resolution (GR) linked to the Hyderabad Gazette indicated a clear commitment towards granting a reservation. “If there was no intention to provide a reservation, such steps would not have been taken,” he remarked.

Jarange’s warning comes months after his massive agitation in Mumbai in August 2025, when he launched an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan. The protest drew lakhs of supporters from across Maharashtra, severely disrupting traffic and daily life in South Mumbai. Commuters faced significant inconvenience as key areas witnessed heavy crowding and restricted movement.

At the time, Jarange had taken a firm position, declaring he would continue fasting until the Maratha community was granted a reservation. His primary demand has been the recognition of Marathas as Kunbis, an agrarian group classified under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, thereby making them eligible for reservation benefits in education and government employment.

However, the protest also drew sharp criticism from the judiciary. The Bombay High Court had pulled up Jarange and his supporters for allegedly violating conditions imposed for the demonstration. The court observed that the agitation had extended beyond Azad Maidan, leading to gatherings at key public locations such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Churchgate, and Marine Drive, effectively bringing parts of the city to a standstill.

Following negotiations, the agitation was called off in early September after the state government accepted several key demands. A cabinet sub-committee agreed to issue Kunbi caste certificates to eligible Marathas based on historical records, with a formal GR promising to ensure implementation.

Despite this, Jarange’s latest remarks indicate that tensions remain unresolved, with the possibility of renewed protests looming if the assurances fail to translate into action.
