‘Shiv Sena (UBT) won’t be able to cross 50-mark in BMC polls’: BJP MLA Ashish Shelar

on

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) won’t be able to cross the 50-mark in the forthcoming BMC elections, city BJP President Ashish Shelar said on Sunday as he addressed party workers at the Mumbai executive meet at Vasant Smriti in Dadar.

People of Mumbai had been rejecting the Shiv Sena and Uddhav Thackeray’s leadership for the past 25 years, but the party managed to rule the BMC with the BJP’s support for all these years, Shelar said.

“Even when their numbers were going down, they kept warming the chairs because we were supporting them for Hindutva. Now things have changed. Today, I predict that Uddhavji’s Shiv Sena will not be able to cross the 50-mark in the upcoming BMC elections,” said Shelar.

Shelar slams Shiv Sena over elected corporators in past

“Shiv Sena contested under Uddhav in 1997 and got 103 corporators. Between 1997 and 2002, the numbers came down to 97 and later to 84. In 2012, it dropped to 75. In 2017, their 84 corporators won. It could happen because they were part of our government. Had they not been in government in the state with us, they would have barely reached 60 back then,” he added, giving an analogy behind his calculations.

“Mumbaikars still believe in honesty, whereas Shiv Sena (UBT) is infamous for being the biggest pick-pocketer. Mumbai has been robbed by the BMC’s pick-pocketeers and MVA’s seasoned thieves who excel in this business of pick-pocketing,” Shelar added.

While boasting of the BJP’s increased strength in the city, Shelar said, “Over 10,000 representatives participated in the conference of housing societies organised under the leadership of BJP. Needy women as well as 27,000 families were helped. We successfully accomplished 9 big events over 15 consecutive days, which I guarantee no other party will ever be able to do.”

All BJP MLAs and MPs from Mumbai along with guardian minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, former MP Kirit Somaiya and senior party leader were present at the meeting.

One killed, several injured in clashes between two communities in Manipur

One person was killed and several others injured in clashes between members of two communities in Manipur Thoubal district, prompting the authorities to impose prohibitory orders in two affected areas, police said on Monday.

A police official in Imphal said that the violence erupted at Khangabok village, under Thoubal police station and around 25 km south of the state capital Imphal, on Sunday night when a group of people allegedly pelted stones at a ground where a music concert was being held, police said.

The incident escalated into stone-pelting between members of the two communities in Khangabok and neighbouring Sangaiyumpham. A few houses and vehicles were also set on fire during the clashes.

Amid the violence, unidentified miscreants opened fire, hitting a person in the head. The injured man, identified as Laishram Rakesh, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Several other people sustained minor cut injuries after being hit by stones and were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Additional state and central security forces were deployed in the affected villages to prevent further escalation.

The situation was under control on Monday morning, police said.

Following the violence, the Thoubal district magistrate issued prohibitory orders on Sunday night, directing residents of Khangabok and Sangaiyumpham not to leave their homes from 11 p.m.

The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), cited the likelihood of a breach of peace, disturbance of public tranquillity and an imminent threat to human life and property due to the alleged unlawful activities of anti-social elements.

The order did not specify when the restrictions would be lifted.

Meanwhile, more than 25 houses were set ablaze in separate incidents in Manipur’s Kamjong district during the past 24 hours, with suspected militants targeting both Naga and Kuki inhabitant areas, forcing civilians to flee their homes and take shelter in forests and a nearby security camp.

Around 14 abandoned houses belonging to the Naga community were set on fire by unidentified miscreants at Pilong and Skipe villages along the India-Myanmar border on Sunday.

Additional security forces were deployed after these incidents, a police official said. The houses had been abandoned after earlier attacks on the Naga-inhabited villages.

All three were detained during a joint operation by the Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and the Kota City Police and are currently being interrogated.

According to the sources, a juvenile is among those detained.

One of the accused has been identified as Hritik Kumar alias Roshan (22), a resident of Piprai village in Bihar’s Begusarai district, currently residing near the Urdu School in Mumbai’s Andheri West and working as a bike rider.

The third accused is identified as Rehan (18), a resident of Haryana’s Sonipat.

Earlier, Mumbai’s Juhu Police have registered a case against three unidentified persons in connection with the firing incident involving the actor, in which his caretaker and driver, Firdos Ibrahim Baloch, sustained injuries.

The FIR has been registered under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act. SP to release ‘Jan-Man ka Manifesto’ for UP Assembly polls on Nov 26

The Samajwadi Party (SP) will release its manifesto for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on November 26, which is marked as Constitution Day, party Chief Akhilesh Yadav announced on Monday.

In a post on X, Yadav said, “The Resolve of ’27: The PDA’s Manifesto. On the sacred democratic occasion of ‘Constitution Day’ on November 26, 2026, we will release the ‘Jan-Man Manifesto’.”

Uttar Pradesh is scheduled to go to polls in 2027.

The announcement came as political parties are gearing up for the upcoming Assembly elections amid the controversy over the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Review (SIR) process.

Earlier on Sunday, Yadav asked his party workers to remain vigilant at their respective polling booths, while accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “conspiring to create fake votes”.

He also accused the BJP-led state government of destroying the education and examination system in Uttar Pradesh.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday took a jibe at the previous SP government in the state, saying that the SP and education are like the “two banks of a river that can never meet”.

The Chief Minister was addressing the Teachers’ and Graduates’ Conference in Lucknow.

Attacking the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party, CM Yogi said: “The ‘Saifai Syndicate’ used to undermine the recruitment process and create an identity crisis (for the youth). People from Uttar Pradesh were even refused rooms in hotels for being associated with the state.”

“During the ongoing Sharadiya Navratri, various events are taking place. Durga Pujas are being organised, Ramlilas are being performed, and there is an atmosphere of celebration today, but before 2017 there used to be chaos and unrest,” he alleged.

“The Samajwadi Party and education are like the two banks of a river — they can never meet!” the Chief Minister added.

“They (SP) are the ones who created an identity crisis for the youth and have wreaked havoc on the education system,” he said while emphasising that a crisis in the education sector means a crisis for society and the country.
