Union Home Minister Amit Shah will confer the ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ Award on renowned social worker and reformer Dattatreya Narayan Dharmadhikari, alias Appasaheb Dharmadhikari on April 16, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has said.

Shah will come down for a special function at the Corporate Park at Kharghar suburb of Navi Mumbai, in a grand function, said Shinde after a high-level preparation meeting held in Raigad on Monday night.

The CM urged the officials concerned that lakhs of followers of Appasaheb Dharmadhikari, 77, are expected to participate in the event and all arrangements should be made accordingly, including parking for several thousands of vehicles.

In view of the magnitude of the event, Shinde called upon the civic bodies of Panvel and Navi Mumbai, and even the health authorities to ensure full precautions for the mega-function.

On February 8, (2023) Appasaheb Dharmadhikari — honoured with the Padma Shri in 2017 – was named for the prestigious 2022 ‘Maharashtra Bhushan Award’, comprising a medal, a citation and Rs 25 lakh.

Incidentally, his father and the renowned preacher-reformer, the late Dr. Narayan Vishnu Dharmadhikari, revered as Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari was also conferred the ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ 2008 award.

Shinde described Appasaheb Dharmadhikari as instrumental in social and society building activities like afforestation, blood donation and medical camps, shunning dowry system, empowering women and tribals, organising training for children and adult literacy centres, holding job fairs, cleanliness, eradicating superstitions, conducting de-addiction, national integration and preaching to the masses on traditional and religious values.

The famed regular gatherings, known as ‘Shri Baithaks’ were launched by late Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari in October 1943 in Raigad, and since the past over three decades, his son Appasaheb Dharmadhikari has taken them forward.

In December, 2013, Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan conducted the world’s largest medical camp with over 1,52,000 participants and 1,571 doctors, which created a Guinness World Record.

Besides different parts of Maharashtra and India, the Pratishthan has also organised different types of service camps in the US, Australia, Singapore, Qatar, and other countries where their followers are residing.

Mumbai Local Train Update: Technical Glitch At Borivali Disrupts WR Services; CR Commuters Report Delay Due To Cancellations

Mumbai: Morning rush hour in Mumbai was hit by disruptions on Friday, March 27, after a technical glitch at Borivali station delayed several suburban train services on the Western Railway line.

The delays, particularly on trains heading towards Churchgate, left office-goers and daily commuters stranded and frustrated. Services were reportedly running 10 to 20 minutes behind schedule, causing overcrowding at multiple stations during peak hours.

Several commuters took to X to express their frustration. A passenger travelling from Bhayandar highlighted recurring delays, stating that the fast local (No. 90186) scheduled to depart at 7:40 am arrived late, reaching Bandra nearly an hour later. Others pointed out that delays of 10–15 minutes have become routine, even after infrastructure upgrades like the addition of the fifth and sixth railway lines.

Responding to complaints on social media platform X, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Mumbai Division acknowledged the issue. “Dear passenger, your train got delayed due to technical failure at Borivali station. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” the official said.

The ripple effect of the disruption was felt across the network, with overcrowding intensifying at key stations. Many passengers complained about missing multiple trains due to congestion and delays.

Meanwhile, commuters on the Central Railway line also reported issues, including last-minute cancellations and severe overcrowding. One user sarcastically described the situation as a “perfect start to the day,” citing packed trains and difficulties boarding both AC and non-AC services amid rising temperatures.

“What a great start to the day thanks to #CentralRailway. Train cancelled last minute. AC train = human stampede. Non-AC train = even worse. Had to leave 2 trains. And the #Mumbai heat just adding to the experience. 10/10 morning. Would totally recommend,” wrote a user, Shefali, in a frustrating post this morning.

Railway authorities have not yet provided a detailed explanation of the technical fault or a timeline for full normalisation of services. However, efforts were reportedly underway to restore schedules and minimise inconvenience.

Thane: A youth in the Mumbra area of Thane district was detained after a fake video claiming an imminent lockdown triggered panic among residents. The youth recorded and circulated a video on social media, falsely claiming that a strict lockdown would be imposed in the area from midnight. The clip quickly went viral, leading to fear and confusion among locals.

In the viral video, the youth can be seen saying, “Ek khabar aayi hai abhi, 12 baje se lockdown hai (I’ve just got news, there’s a lockdown from 12 o’clock). He also claimed that the alleged lockdown would be imposed for an indefinite period due to the ongoing situation. He further suggested the public to stock up their homes with essential goods and medicines to avoid trouble.

As the rumour spread, several residents reportedly stepped out of their homes to purchase essential goods, fearing sudden restrictions. The rumour created a sense of urgency, with people calling each other to verify the claim, which only accelerated its circulation.

Taking serious note of the situation, the Mumbra Police launched an investigation and traced the accused. He was taken into custody, where he admitted to creating and sharing the video without verifying the information.

Police later made the youth publicly apologise for his actions and issued a strict warning against repeating such behaviour. “My name is Arham Uzair Azharuddin and I stay in Mumbra. The video that I made regarding the lockdown was completely fake news. There is no lockdown imposed in Mumbra. I apologise for spreading the rumour. Mumbra Police have made me understand my mistake,” he said with folded hands in the apology video.

Authorities emphasised that spreading unverified information can lead to unnecessary panic and disrupt public order. Officials have appealed to citizens to exercise caution while consuming and sharing content on social media.

Mumbai Crime: 21-Year-Old Woman Forcibly Cuts Friend’s Hair In Versova, Films Act Over Boyfriend Row; FIR Against 3

Mumbai: A 21-year-old woman allegedly cut the hair of her 20-year-old female friend by force and recorded a video of the act. She is said to have done so because her boyfriend had praised the friend’s hair. The incident occurred in Versova, Andheri West, on March 25. The Versova police registered a case against three persons on the same day.

According to the FIR, the complainant is a resident of Versova, Andheri West, and a student. Through a common friend, she became friends with a 21-year-old girl and her boyfriend. The boy used to chat with the complainant via Instagram.

During his conversations with her girlfriend, he reportedly praised the complainant’s hair and expressed a desire to meet her. However, the complainant and the boy were only friends and did not share any romantic relationship.

On March 7, the accused girl visited the complainant’s residence and checked her mobile phone. She did not find any inappropriate chats between the complainant and her boyfriend. She then thanked the complainant and left.

On March 25, the complainant was at home with her maid. The maid slept in her room. At around 12:30 am, the doorbell rang. The complainant assumed it might be her ice cream delivery. However, upon opening the door, she found the accused girl along with two female friends standing in the passage.

The accused girl allegedly pulled the complainant out of her flat and began cutting her hair with scissors, while her two friends recorded the incident.

When the complainant resisted, Layba said, “Hair, hair, not hair,” and allegedly threatened to make the video go viral. The accused told her to do whatever she wanted, took some of the cut hair with her, and left the building.

In her complaint, she stated, “Her friend and her two friends illegally entered the building and rang the doorbell. She misunderstood that I was in a relationship with her boyfriend, and cut my hair.”

The victim subsequently filed a complaint against her friend and her two friends at the Versova police station. The Versova police said that the individuals involved are known to make social media reels, and they are investigating whether the act was a stunt or carried out with any other intention.

The Versova police registered an FIR against Layba and her two unidentified friends under Sections 329(3) and 329(4) (criminal trespass and house trespass), 351(2) (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 3(5) (general explanation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
