Mumbai Metro Line-4: Increase of Rs 1274.80 crore in construction work, 5 years delay revealed

Published

on

Mumbai: One of the ambitious metro projects of Mumbai, Mumbai Metro Route-4 (Wadala – Kasarvadavali) has been found to have an increase of Rs 1274.80 crore and a delay of 5 years. This information brought to light by RTI activist Anil Galgali raises serious questions on the project management of MMRDA.

Project Details

Mumbai Metro Route-4 is an elevated route with a total length of 32.32 km and 30 stations. The project was awarded to RInfra-ASTALDI and CHEC-TPL companies on 12 April 2018. The work on this project was expected to be completed by July 2021, but now a new target has been set to complete it by August 2026.

Expense Increase

The original cost of construction work of this project was Rs 2632.25 crore, which has now increased by Rs 1274.80 crore to Rs 3907.05 crore. This cost overrun has exposed the management flaws of Mumbai Metro projects.

Demand for punitive action

RTI activist Anil Galgali has demanded punitive action against the companies responsible for the cost overrun and project delay. He has expressed displeasure over the negligence in the management of this project and has called upon the government and MMRDA to ensure accountability.

Importance of the project

The Wadala-Kasarvadavali route will be connected to other important routes of Mumbai currently, including:

  • Eastern Express Roadway
  • Central Railway
  • Monorail
  • Metro route 2B (DN Nagar to Mandale)
  • Metro route 5 (Thane to Kalyan)
  • Metro route 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli)

This route will provide passengers with a fast, convenient and environmentally friendly travel option. However, the expectations of Mumbaikars have been dashed due to the delay in the project and the cost overrun.

Demand of RTI activists

Anil Galgali said that strict action should be taken against the officials responsible for the delay and cost overrun in this project. He said that the delay and cost overrun in this important project can hinder the development of Mumbai.

Question on government’s accountability

In view of the increased cost, the government and MMRDA need to play a more transparent and responsible role for the timely completion of the project. Mumbaikars expect that Metro Route-4 should be completed as soon as possible and this project should be completed on time.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Samajwadi Party leader Worker Assembly Abu Asim Azmi criticized the statement of Home Minister Amit Shah and said that it is the responsibility of the Home Minister and the Central Government to take action against Bangladeshi and Pakistani infiltrators. The population of Muslims in India has increased due to Bangladeshis. This is completely wrong. The residents of West Bengal and ordinary Muslims are being targeted under the guise of Bangladeshi and Pakistanis. He said that the government is yours in many states and at the center, so how do Bangladeshi infiltrators enter from the border? What action has the government taken against those who forge their documents so far? He said that targeting Muslims under the guise of Bangladeshi should be stopped, just as Karat Soumya is trying to fake the certificates and documents of every Muslim and is targeting Muslims. He said that the government should pay attention to how Bangladeshi infiltrators infiltrate from the Indian border. This is not the job of Congress, SP or other parties. It is the job of the government to take action against Bangladeshi and Pakistanis and to bring them to justice. But Muslims should not be harassed or disturbed. He said that action is being taken against those officers who are preparing documents for Bangladeshis.
