Mumbai: BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal hits back at Aaditya Thackeray over corruption charges
BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has refuted all allegations made by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray over “irregularities in BMC tenders and projects”. Chahal clarified that all projects are “implemented as per rules and regulations, without any misconduct or irregularities in the bidding process”.
‘No contractor has stopped work due to shortage of material’
Over shortage of gravel and monopoly of one contractor, Chahal said, “The allegations are baseless. No contractor responsible for cement concrete work has stopped work due to a shortage of material. No issue regarding hiked gravel prices has been raised by any contractor.”
‘Appropriate responses have been provided on the allegations’
The BMC chief said that the corporators’ term ended March 7, 2022, and the state government appointed him as the administrator of the civic body. He said he has diligently fulfilled the responsibilities bestowed upon him. “Appropriate responses have been provided on the allegations through various channels, legal forums, correspondence, media and social platforms. All allegations of financial misconduct, mismanagement, irregularities and contractor favouritism stand completely unsubstantiated and baseless,” he said.
Chahal makes his point very clear
Chahal further clarified that the contract to concretise the 400km road network was given to firms that met the eligibility criteria. “The rates had been increased because no contractor was ready to work within the BMC’s 2018 scheduled rates,” he said, emphasising that stringent conditions were included in the tenders to monitor and maintain quality.
He said even the street furniture tender process was implemented under the online SAP system as per the prevailing terms and conditions to achieve uniformity in 19 BMC departments.
‘Pedestrian First Policy’
The estimated cost for the road furniture project was nearly Rs263 crore but the first lowest tenderer had quoted Rs276.5 crore, which was 4.96% more than the estimated cost. Negotiations were conducted and the tender price was fixed with 0.01% less than the estimated cost. He said all works were supervised and executed by the deputy chief engineer (traffic) who is well versed with the ‘Pedestrian First Policy’ which has a defect liability period of nearly 10 years.
Addressing the sanitary pad vending and incinerator machine, he said, “Considering that many public toilets are located in slum areas, sanitary pad vending and incinerator machines have been set up there. As per a survey conducted by the Solid Waste Management Department, it was determined that the vending and incinerator machines will be installed in 5,000 out of the 8,173 public toilets. The responsibility of operating, maintaining, and refilling these machines for the next three years has been given to contractors. The BMC invited tenders and the lowest bidder was given the work.”

Mumbai-Delhi bomb blasts conspiracy: My son is innocent, claims Farooq Hashmi, father of Huzaifa arrested from Bhayander

Mumbai: Farooq Hashmi, the father of Huzaifa Hashmi, who was arrested for his involvement in the Mumbai-Delhi bomb blasts conspiracy, said that his son is innocent. He had only participated in the chat and had no connection with the conspiracy to carry out terrorist attacks. While the Delhi Special Cell has claimed to have arrested Huzaifa for her involvement in the conspiracy to carry out terrorist attacks, Rs 25,000 was also transferred to the account of Huzaifa, who was arrested from Bhayander. Father Farooq Hashmi said that his son used to chat on his mobile and he felt that his friend was joking with him. His friend had also sent him a barcode number and he also received Rs 25,000 in it, after which Hashmi instructed him to return the money and blocked the number. After this incident, he was not in touch with this number, but despite this, the police have arrested him. He said that my son has been framed. Delhi Special Cell operation arrests suspected fugitive Huzaifa Hashmi from Mira Bhayandar, exposes conspiracy network against the country

Mumbai Investigation Agencies and Delhi Special Cell have foiled a plot to carry out terror attacks in Delhi and Mumbai by exposing the network of terrorists. Security agencies have achieved another major success against terrorism and the underworld. In a joint operation, the Special Cell of Delhi Police and Maharashtra ATS have arrested another suspected terrorist who is linked to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, and the Mumbai underworld module. The arrested person has been identified as 26-year-old Huzaifa Farooq Ahmed Hashmi, who was arrested from Bhayander area adjoining Mumbai. Huzaifa was absconding since the arrest of 9 suspects in this case.
Huzaifa was in touch with Yawar Khan, who is based in Pakistan.
According to sources in the investigation agencies, Huzaifa Hashmi was in constant touch with his handler Yawar Khan, who is based in Pakistan, for the past one month. This module was planning to carry out a big conspiracy in India. Sources revealed that Huzaifa was sent about Rs 100,000 by the gang for this purpose. Huzaifa adopted a new method to dupe local youth. He would tell them that some Pakistani gangsters were active on Instagram and offered huge amounts of money to work for them. Investigation also revealed that Huzaifa targeted youth who were already addicted to drugs. This was the easiest way for these youth to earn money. Falling into this temptation, many youths chose Huzaifa’s path and received money from Pakistan. It has been learnt that two accused in this case, Tauqir and Sajid Sheikh, have already been arrested from Kurla and Mumbra, who were caught in this trap and involved in anti-national activities. Security agencies are currently interrogating Huzaifa rigorously to uncover other links of this network.

Mira-Bhayandar Water Cut: MIDC Water Supply To Remain Suspended For 24 Hours On June 4-5 – Details Here

Residents of Mira Bhayandar are set to face a 24-hour water cut as the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has announced that MIDC water supply will remain suspended tomorrow, June 4. According to MBMC, there will be no MIDC water supply from 12 pm on June 4 to 12 pm on June 5.
The MBMC said that temporary water disruption has been scheduled as a precautionary measure in view of the possible impact of El Nino and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions, which could lead to water shortages in the coming months.
Notably, MBMC also added that while water supply from STEM Authority will continue as usual, residents might experience low water pressure and delayed water supply until MIDC services are fully restored.
The MBMC has appealed to residents to cooperate with the civic body and asked them to store only the required amount of water and use it judiciously during the temporary disruption.
Apart from Mira Bhayandar, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has also announced a complete 24-hour water shutdown in several parts of the city from 12 pm on June 4 to 12 pm on June 5. The shutdown will affect areas supplied by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s (MIDC) Jambhul water treatment plant. Areas including Diva and Kalwa ward committees, Mumbra (excluding parts of Ward Nos. 26 and 31), Wagle Estate, and Manpada will face a water shutdown.
Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the BMC has already imposed a 10 per cent water cut from May 15 to ensure supply until August 19, but concerns persist over the delayed monsoon. Civic data showed that the water stock in the seven lakes supplying Mumbai dropped to 2.13 lakh million litres (ML), or 15.30 per cent of total capacity.
Civic data as of June 2 showed that the useful water content in Upper Vaitarna has been exhausted, while Modak Sagar stood at 33.89 per cent, Vihar at 45.71 per cent, Tulsi at 27.10 per cent, Middle Vaitarna at 22.21 per cent, Bhatsa at 14.57 per cent and Tansa at 10.58 per cent.
