Mumbai Mahayoti government’s budget is disappointing for minorities, especially Muslims: Abu Asim Azmi

Published

on

There is no mention of minorities in the budget of the Mumbai Mahayoti government, so this budget is very disappointing for Muslims. He said that in this budget, no special focus has been placed on education, development and employment, nor has any action plan, strategy or concrete steps been taken for this. There are no clear arrangements for welfare and welfare. This kind of opinion has been expressed by MLA Abu Asim Azmi on the budget. He said that for years, various committees and commissions have been recommending reservations and special assistance for minorities, but till date no concrete action has been taken on these recommendations. The government needs Urdu to express its feelings, despite this, almost zero amount has been allocated for Urdu language in the budget. It seems that there is no concrete arrangement for Urdu schools, educational institutions or Urdu teachers. On the one hand, funds are provided for every religious place and devotion is expressed at Dargahs, but why this stepmotherly behavior at the time of budget? If the government cannot provide reservation and make proper arrangements in the budget, then it should at least give the Muslims and other minorities of Maharashtra the right to respect and equality. On the one hand, the government claims to follow the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, but on the other hand, it seems to be doing utter injustice. Using the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and treating Muslims with hatred just to stay in power is an insult to the entire Maharashtra. Maharashtra cannot progress by ignoring minorities. The government should adopt a policy that is inclusive and based on justice.

Mumbai : State government directed to provide temporary space to street vendors, Raees Shaikh expresses concern

Published

Mumbai: The Central government passed the Street Vendors Act in 2014 and the state government framed its rules in 2016. The names and numbers of eligible street vendors are fixed and they have full right to earn a living by selling. Therefore, without waiting for the formation of the Town Vending Committee and despite the case being pending in the Supreme Court, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation should provide temporary vending spaces to street vendors, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar has ordered the state government. Samajwadi Party’s Bhiwandi East MLA Raees Sheikh had expressed concern in the Assembly on Friday over the collection of weekly wages by Mumbai Municipal Corporation officers from street vendors. Speaking in this regard, MLA Raees Sheikh said that 32,415 street vendors in Mumbai have been declared eligible as voters. It was made a law in 2014, in 2016, the state government made rules. But the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has not yet formed a City Vendor Committee. As a result, no fixed space has been allocated for street vendors. Eligible street vendors face raids and action by the anti-encroachment department every day. Some vendors are taking unfair advantage of this. Mumbai Municipal Corporation employees are also charging street vendors a salary. MLA Raees Sheikh accused the Mumbai Municipal Corporation of creating a problem of employment for eligible street vendors. Responding to the notice, Industries Minister Uday Samant said that after the street vendor rules were made in Mumbai, 1,28,443 applications were received. The municipality received 99,435 applications. 10,360 street vendors have been given certificates. However, due to a petition filed in the Supreme Court by the Janwadi Hawkers Association, the City Vendor Committee could not come into existence even after the elections. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had ordered the Mumbai Municipal Corporation in 2024 not to evict eligible street vendors, explained Minister Samant. After this, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar intervened in the matter. For the last ten years, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has been neglecting the vendors on the streets. How should eligible street vendors survive? He inquired. The Mumbai Municipal Corporation was immediately directed to allow eligible street vendors to sell and allocate temporary spaces. Speaker Narvekar ordered that spaces be provided on a permanent basis after the cases in the Supreme Court are resolved.
