Maharashtra Elections 2024: Arvind Sawant Apologises For His ‘Imported Maal’ Remark Against Shaina NC

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant on Saturday apologised for his “imported maal” remark against Marashtra CM Eknath Shide-led Shiv Sena’s Mumbadevi candidate Shaina NC and said that he was being “deliberately targeted.” Speaking to media in Mumbai, Sawant said that he would never insult a women adding that his statements were “intrepreted differently.”

“Some allegations have been made against me for the past few days. A complaint has been lodged against me in this regard. We will never insult women. An atmosphere is being created that I have insulted a woman, I have never done this in my life. One of my statements was interpreted differently. I apologise if my statement hurt anyone’s feelings,”

“I am being deliberately targeted by giving a different meaning, I am sad about this but still, if my statement has hurt anyone’s feelings then I express regret. The respect of women in the country cannot be seen according to the party,” he added.

Earlier today, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Friday defended party MP Arvind Sawant’s controversial remarks against Shaina NC. Speaking to news agency ANI, Raut said, “There has been no insult. Arvind Sawant is our senior MP. He simply said that the BJP candidate from Mumbadevi (Shaina NC) has come from outside and is ‘imported maal’. If she is ‘imported maal’, how is this an insult to women?… ‘Bahar ka maal hai toh bahar ka maal hai’…What did you say about Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi? You should review history once… If a person from outside contests elections, people say they have come from outside… There is no need to create such a big issue.”

Sawant is now facing an FIR for allegedly referring to Shaina NC as “imported maal.” In a viral video, he can be heard saying, “Imported goods won’t work (Imported Maal nahi chalega), original goods will (Original Maal chalega)” in reference to Shaina.Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has condemned Arvind Sawant’s comments about the female candidate.

Maharashtra: Minister Yogesh Kadam Expresses Gratitude To Mumbai Police For Ensuring Safety During Ganesh Festival

Mumbai: Minister of State for Home Affairs Yogesh Kadam has expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the Mumbai Police for their dedicated service in ensuring the safety and security of devotees during the Ganesh festival.

Highlighting the significance of the festival, Kadam said that Ganeshotsav is marked by a surge of devotees, the beats of drums, the sound of aartis, and massive crowds during immersions. Despite such overwhelming gatherings, the police stand vigil day and night to safeguard devotees.

Recalling incidents of stampedes in different parts of the country in the past year, Kadam noted that even though lakhs of devotees gather in Mumbai every year for immersions, the festivities pass peacefully and securely. “The credit for this goes entirely to the discipline and dedicated efforts of the Mumbai Police,” he said.

“Working 12 to 16 hours continuously, standing for hours in the sun or rain, managing crowds and traffic, and patiently communicating with people while respecting their emotions — even in such challenging circumstances, the sense of duty reflected on the faces of police officers is truly commendable,” Kadam remarked.

He further stated that the spirit of service, patience, and dedication of the Mumbai Police guarantees peace and safety during the festival. Calling them the “unsung heroes in the crowd,” Kadam said their efforts ensure that Mumbaikars can celebrate the festival in a safe environment.

Appreciating the disciplined tradition of Maharashtra Police, the minister added, “The service-oriented approach and commitment of the Mumbai Police are the real strength of the state’s security system. I wholeheartedly salute their dedication and sense of duty.”

Centre To Release Commemorative Stamp and Coin Honouring Jain Saint Acharya Shri Jawaharlal Ji Maharaj On 150th Birth Anniversary

The central government has announced the release of a commemorative postal stamp and quaternary coin in memory of Acharya Shri Jawaharlal Ji Maharaj, a revered Jain saint, reformer, and national figure whose 150th birth anniversary is being observed this year.

Mumbai-based social and cultural organisation, Jaskaran Bothra Foundation, which has been pursuing this initiative for the last two decades, said that the honour marks a moment of profound cultural and historical significance for the nation. A gazette notification for the commemorative coin was issued by the finance ministry on September 1.

Siddharth Bothra, trustee, Jaskaran Bothra Foundation, Mumbai, expressed gratitude for the government decision. “This is a proud moment not just for the Jain community, but for the entire nation. Honouring Acharyaji with a commemorative stamp and coin is a recognition of his immense contributions to India’s freedom, social reforms, and nation-building.”

The acharya was advisor to national leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Morarji Desai, who sought his guidance on matters of national importance, inspired by his wisdom and moral authority.

The saint actively supported the freedom movement, promoted the principle of non-violence, and use of swadeshi products and ideals. He campaigned against caste-based discrimination, and championed the cause of women’s education. Communities. He opposed blind faith and promoted the establishment of institutions to provide medical and educational aid to the poor. “His ideas about education of girls and caste-based discrimination were modern for the times,” said Bothra.

The Jaskaran Bothra Foundation has sent an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to preside over the national-level ceremony to release the commemorative stamp and coin. The event will bring together saints, monks, spiritual leaders, eminent dignitaries, and followers from across the country.

Mumbai Crime: 3 Arrested For Killing Senior Citizen Over Property Dispute In Kandivali; Sticks, Wooden Stumps & Stones Used During Assault

Mumbai: The Kandivali police arrested three individuals for the murder of a 60-year-old man. The accused have been identified as Avdhesh Chauhan, Sanjay Chauhan, and Kamlesh Chauhan. They forced their way into the residence of the deceased, Ramlakhan Yadav, claiming it belonged to them, and physically assaulted him. During treatment, Yadav succumbed to his injuries at Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali West.

According to the police, on September 5, the accused forcibly entered Yadav’s residence, claimed ownership of the property, and began verbally abusing and physically assaulting him and his family. They attacked them with sticks, bamboo, stumps, and stones, causing Yadav to sustain serious injuries. His family rushed him to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali West, where doctors treated him, after which he was discharged and returned home.

The next day, he complained of chest pain, and his family brought him back to Shatabdi Hospital at around 5.30 pm. While undergoing treatment in the ICU, doctors declared him dead at around 7.45 pm.

The Kandivali police registered a case under Section 109 (1) (attempt to murder) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and subsequently arrested the accused.
