Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo Invites Petition Seeking Ban In Madurai High Court: Petitioner Demands Psychological Attention For Director

One of 2023’s most commercially successful films, the Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Leo broke the box-office curse for the actor, whose last three films were considered dismal flops. It additionally elevated director Lokesh Kanagaraj as one of the few Tamil filmmakers who understands how to sell movies that are high on mass and class.
But, to be fair, the film also invited its fair share of criticism. While some were critical about Kanagaraj’s wayward direction of the film, others were put off by the blatant use of violence and gore in crucial scenes. Although, in the film’s defense, the praises were mostly reserved for Vijay, who completely sunk his teeth into playing the lead.
Currently, the movie has landed itself in legal trouble as a petition has been filed in the Madurai High Court, seeking a ban on the film’s digital release and demanding psychological eval of the director. The petitioner, who goes by the name Raju Murugan and is based in Madurai, cites that the director has deployed excessive use of drugs, arms and ammunitions and has resorted to endorsing violence.
While that claim is largely untrue and Kanagaraj has only made a fictional story, the petitioner suggests otherwise and has also urged authorities to conduct a medical examination upon Kanagaraj to rule out any psychological defects.
Laughable as it may sound, but this demand comes in months after Leo has been released theatrically and continues to draw appreciation from netizens across the world. While the matter was presented at the court before Judges Vijayakumar and Krishnakumar, a lack of representation from Kanagaraj’s end led to the matter being adjourned.

Naseeruddin Shah breaks silence after being trolled for deleting post backing Diljit Dosanjh

Mumbai, July 2: Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah took to social media to share a powerful message after deleting a post in support of Diljit Dosanjh.
Reflecting on the pressure and backlash that followed, Shah reflected on truth and silence in a thought-provoking message, quoting German scientist and philosopher Georg Christoph Lichtenberg. The ‘Omkara’ actor took to his Facebook handle and wrote, “It is almost impossible to carry the torch of truth through a crowd without singeing somebody’s beard. -Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, scientist and philosopher (1 Jul 1742-1799).”
The line, though centuries old, seems to have resonated deeply in the current context, subtly highlighting the backlash the veteran actor faced for removing his post. In the post, he had made religious remarks against those criticizing Diljit Dosanjh’s collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the film ‘Sardaar Ji 3.’ Shah clarified that the actor had no role in the decision to cast Hania Aamir in the film.
In his now deleted post, Naseeruddin Shah wrote, “I stand Firmly With Diljit. The dirty tricks deptt of Jumla Party has been awaiting a chance to attack him. They think they’ve got it at last. He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was. But no one knows who he is whereas Diljit is known the world over, and he agreed to the cast because his mind is not poisoned.”
The 74-year-old actor added, “What these goons want is to put an end to personal interaction between the people of India and Pakistan. I have close relatives and some dear friends there and no one can stop me from meeting them or sending them love whenever i feel like it. And my response to those who will say “Go to Pakistan” is Go To Kailasa.”
A section of users on X criticized the veteran actor for taking down his post merely a day after he had spoken out against the backlash aimed at Diljit Dosanjh.

The fascinating connection between Shefali Jariwala and Salman Khan

Mumbai, June 28: Actress Shefali Jariwala, who passed away on Friday night in Mumbai, climbed the ladder to success with the remix of her song, ‘Kaanta Laga’. The actress has an interesting connection with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.
Back in the early 2000s, the dot com bubble had burst, a decade had passed since the New Economic Policy of India was enacted. Like other sectors, India’s entertainment industry too was looking west. But to make the content marketable, it was imperative to have the basic thread from India. That’s how the remix of ‘Kaanta Laga’ came to life.
Director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, who are known for ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’, started off with music videos, and were the creative forces behind the remix as they cast Shefali in a bold avatar of a rebellious girl who wants to go to a club.
When the music video came out, it triggered a national uproar over its ‘indecent’ portrayal of a young woman, who reads adult magazines, dresses differently from what the norm was back then, and has a rebellious grain.
The director duo were once told by Salman Khan to stay clear of such disruptive ideas that challenge the moral fabric of the nation. Salman, who worked with Radhika and Vinay in ‘Lucky: No Time for Love’, was not impressed by what the director duo had done in the remix in terms of the visuals.
However, as fate would have it, the same song was used in Salman’s film ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, which was released 2 years after the remix came out. What’s even interesting is that Shefali too featured in the song in the film along with Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who essayed Salman’s best friend in the film.
Shefali entered the ‘Bigg Boss’ house for its 13th season. Salman has been hosting the show for close to 15 years now. It marked the full-circle for the actress. Shefali, whose portrayal was dismissed by Salman at the start of her career, was hosted by the superstar when she became a part of the reality show.
Shefali reportedly passed away on Friday following a cardiac arrest. Her husband Parag Tyagi reportedly rushed her to a hospital in the Andheri area of Mumbai but doctors declared her dead on arrival. Her body has been sent to Cooper Hospital in Andheri for further formalities.
